Back up QB

The Bronco's are trading for Flacco and will shop Case Keenum. If they can't find a trade partner they'll likely release him, if so think he'd be a good one to bring in to back up Russ.

Unfortunately he has a big contract, so he would expect a lot more than most backups would want.
His current contract is for $18,000,000 with a $21,000,000 Cap hit according to Spotrac.
I doubt he expects to take a $16,000,000 decrease in salary.
Ability wise, he would probably be a good fit.

Not only that, but they're going to want something in return, probably draft choices.

If they release him, his current contract is moot.

True, but what would his salary expectations be and could we afford them?
It would be a big drop from starting QB money at $18 million he was signed for.
I would think he would go somewhere that would pay him more than we would.

Getting cut by a team that traded for a new starter kinda puts one in the position of expecting to take a big drop from his starting QB money. His team just effectively put him in the 'not starter quality' category ... he can't expect starter money now. and if he does, c'est la vie, we look elsewhere.

He was making $2 million before his big payday.
Is that a lot for a QB that probably wouldn't play?
I think it might be an OK investment if the team wants some leverage in contract
negotiations with Wilson, but our Cap is going to be pretty tight after re-signing
players and the expected FT for Clark, not to mention any FA and draft acquisitions.
