Donald Parham??

Postby toffee » Tue Apr 02, 2019 10:16 pm

I don't see much future in him being a NFL TE, not sure he got the frame/built and too much to learn on how to block. He could however, be a niche WR, he is a taller and longer but less talented version of Jimmy Graham,

Parham: 6'8", 243lbs, 36" arm, 10.5" hand
Graham: 6'6", 260lbs, 35" arm, 10.5" hand
Tanner McEvoy: 6'6", 222lbs, 31" arm,

First, welcome aboard.

Second, who the F is this guy and why is he being posted here? A little background on a post would help us understand these things.

Or is this someone you personally know and are trying to create hype on him?

Inquiring minds want to know....

It's Draft time, ID.
He's bringing up a player that we might not otherwise know about.

That being said, PC/JS usually like Receivers to block and a couple of the comments
suggest he isn't very good at it.
That being said, a late pick or UDFA could be a value and if used like Graham was
before he came here, he could really help in the Red Zone.

Nice, almost exactly how I responded to the same post over at the blue. We think along the same lines North.

Personally I'm glad to hear about him, especially as he's an unusual physical specimen. Pete likes those.

Welcome to The Shack, toffee! Thanks for your contribution.

CBob: Are you planning on doing your pick the picks thread again this season? With just 4 selections, it means I wouldn't have to do a lot of homework so I might actually participate. :D

Yeah, I got one more prospect in the 5th to decide on and it'll be coming out.

Don't think he block well enough as a TE, therefore he intrigued more as an over-sized WR. Dude as 84" wingspan, 36" arms, vertical jumped at 36", 6'8" tall, and big 10.5" hands. He's also a former basketball player, his size and jumping ability create mismatch with average sized CBs or LBs.

I agree his size and hands are intriguing but they do like their WR's and slots to block as it's considered part of the running game.
It's part of why Baldwin and Kearse were so important on earlier teams and part of why players like Chris Harper
and Amara Darboh were selected.

As North Hawk said, blocking is a critical component for a tight end in Schot's run first offense. If the Hawks do draft a TE, they'll look more like Will Dissly than they will Jimmy Graham.

They might be able to use him like a big slot receiver. PC/JS have a history of taking
players that have unusual physical attributes or abilities. A guy that big with soft hands
might be a good bet in the later rounds.

I don't see them spending draft capital on a 3rd down receiver, which is essentially what he'd be in Schot's offense. We only have 4 picks this draft. But obviously we could sign him as a UDFA.

Of course we don't know how JS/PC and their scouting dept. view Parham, if they do at all but
he could fit into Schottenheimer's Offense as a regular slot receiver. At 6'8", he'd be a mismatch
on every play and history shows Pete is always looking for big receivers even if none have really
panned out, yet.

Of course, Parham could just be another Tanner McEvoy, or worse. But Parham has better measurable than McEvoy, 2" taller, 4" longer arms, 2.5" more on vertical jumps (36" vs 33.5"), almost an inch bigger hand 10.5" vs 9.75".

In short, Parham has bigger catch radius than McEvoy and potentially softer hands. He probably doesn't block well enough as a TE, but as a slot WR, his blocking could be adequate?

I think big guys like that just have to get in the way to help block.
To run around someone who's that size would mean the difference between
making a tackle and chasing a runner 20 more yards before catching him.

The opposite of Parham, Renfrow's kinda poor men's angry Doug:

Baldwin: 5'10", 189lbs, 27" arm, 4.52sec 40 yards, 4.26sec 20 yards shuttle, 37" vertical,
Renfrow: 5'10" 184lbs, 29" arm, 4.59sec 40yards, 4.19sec 20 yards shuttle, 35" vertical,

Hunter Renfrow, Clemson
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/hunter-re ... 5484b87290
STRENGTHS
—Has strong hands despite their small size (7⅞") and does a great job of concentrating on the ball and securing it.
—Productive slot receiver at Clemson who played his best in big games.
—Able to use football IQ to separate from much faster/quicker defensive backs.
—Willing and able to put his body in harm's way to make the catch—whether it be low, high or to the side.
WEAKNESSES
—Limited to playing the slot, and underneath routes will hurt his draft status.
—Won't create much after the catch.
—More quick than fast and doesn't have vertical ability. Almost solely an underneath target.
—Small target (5'10", 184 lbs) who will need an accurate quarterback given limited size and arm length (29⅛").
OVERALL
"He's a great route runner. He catches everything. He's quicker than fast. He's a coach's son. I think I checked off all the cliche boxes for a white slot receiver, but they are all true. Watch him work against Minkah Fitzpatrick and tell me if you think he can play." -- East coast area scout for AFC team

He also sounds a lot like Largent in the description (too small, not fast, quick out of breaks).
Like Baldwin, it will all come down to whether he has the necessary desire to be the best
he can be.

I've seen Renfro in college, and I always thought him to be a lot like some of the Patriot receivers, ie Edelman, Welker, etc.

If we somehow luck into getting both Parham and Renfro, it would be quite an odd couple.

I wouldn't necessarily characterize drafting both those guys as "lucky". Both would be reaches at best, a long shot gamble at worst.

I don't believe there is such a thing as a reach in the draft, but I would still spend a late round pick on one or both if I thought they could make the team.

If Renfro would to have Parham's measurable ... these two, one has all the physical gift, the other all the mental prowess.

My apologies to Toffee.

His first post with an obscure name made me think he was spamming a player over many team boards to generate interest.
