How about adding incentives to take him to $20+ mm?
That might be a possible compromise.

According to Bob Condotta we're trading for Quinton Dunbar. Typical Carroll type big CB who is still getting better. I like it!

Interesting indeed. Just read on Rotoworld the 'Skins are shopping him as he is entering a contract year. 27 years old, 6'2", 202 lbs, and was PFF's #2 CB overall last year. Says he typically plays 1 side of the field a la Sherman. Says a day 2 draft pick is what it will probably take to get him.

https://www.rotoworld.com/football/nfl/player/12674/quinton-dunbar

EDIT:It is for a 5th round draft pick in 2020 for Dunbar.

He can't do worse than Tre Flowers and he only cost us a 5th. Plus he's been around awhile so he should be able to make an immediate impact. I like it.

Sorry for the dupe link -- My computer's security wouldn't let me open it from in this forum. This is ESPN's blurb on the trade.

Monday, March 23

Washington trades Quinton Dunbar to Seattle
Seattle Seahawks get: CB Quinton Dunbar
Washington gets: 2020 fifth-round pick

Seahawks grade: B+
Washington grade: D+

After successfully snatching safety Quandre Diggs off the Lions' roster last season, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider have made another low-cost, high-upside addition by sending a fifth-round pick to Washington for its former starting cornerback. Dunbar was one of the few reasons to turn on Washington tape last season; quarterbacks posted a passer rating of 68.4 with Dunbar in coverage, the 14th-best mark in the league for cornerbacks who were targeted at least 30 times. He also has the athleticism to play either outside or in the slot, an added bonus.

Except the DL has got worse so far.
No Clowney, Lost QJeff and Al Woods - signed Bruce Irvin.
They're still going to have to get someone to put pressure on the QB and stop the run
even if they re-sign Clowney.

True. Getting Griffen would help, but the priority has to be getting Clowney on board. Failing to do so would leave us with Pete running to the center of the practice field and yelling "next man up!" We'd be hoping that someone like Collier or Green would rise to the occasion and fill the void. Not a good position to be in if you consider yourself to be a SB contender.

I agree, hopefully we will be able to pick up a DT in the draft. PC and a good draft pick however, is like pulling baby teeth out of a Rhino!

The concern I have is other teams are also looking for a good DT in the draft and
most select before us in what is said to be a shallow draft for DL and Edge rushers.

The other concern is DT and Edge are both weak in this draft.

Seahawks sign Phillip Dorsett.. he never really produced like his athletic profile would suggest and he’s played with some good QB’s (Luck/Brady). He might be a deep threat/big play guy for us though.

Combine 40 was 4.33 so he's plenty fast and Pete likes those chunk plays.
Maybe he can clear out some room for the TE's or DK.

He cannot be any worse than Jaron Brown can he? I had it with Brown, so glad they are moving on from him. Dorsett could be a decent 3rd WR behind Lockett and DK, maybe a guy that can thrive on RW3's scrambling abilities. I really think they needed a somewhat veteran presence as their #3, so glad they addressed it. Wouldn't be surprised if they added another vet to battle Moore, Ursua, and Turner for the #4 and #5 spots.

I think he has skill set Brown doesn’t have- top end speed. At the same time he hasn’t lived up to his potential as a former 1st rounder, but if he is our number 3 or 4 he doesn’t have to.

So I didn't realize the speed factor that Dorsett has, he looks like quite the burner. Given RW3's penchant for being a precise deep ball thrower, Dorsett has to be licking his chops with the potential that is there. Really liking this signing now that I have looked into it a bit more. And as Northhawk pointed out, he can definitely open up some space underneathe for Olsen/Lockett/Metcalf.

Ifedi signs one year contract with Bears. Pretty shocking... there was very real speculation that he could sign for 12-15 mil/per year and now he has to sign a one-year prove it deal. There is also talk that they will move him to Guard.

According to ESPN, he's 6-5 and 324 lbs so we aren't losing any size without Ifedi and they are approx. the same age.
We might not see any fall off in productivity once he gets used to the system and Fluker or whoever the RG is.

He also grades out better than Ifedi and doesn't commit as many penalties at just over half of what the Jets signed Fant for (Ifedi remains unsigned). It looks like a great move on paper.

I must have missed that one. Thanks for the heads up.

It's odd that it's just a one year deal. I'm shocked that he didn't get better terms. This has to be one of those coronavirus casualties.

Obi, my friend, let's just hope this isn't one of those cases of "Be careful what you wish for, you might get it!"

There has to be a reason why the Jets opted to part ways with Shell yet embarked on a very dubious signing of George Fant, giving him a contract way over his perceived value. This isn't a slam dunk, no brainer move, exchanging Ifedi for Shell in order to save a few bucks. Let's see how it pans out before we start turning cartwheels.

Exactly although Shell seems to be on par with Ifedi we have to remember that Ifedi has been pretty bad in the past. If we get two years of performance that is close to ‘good’ Ifedi it’s a great move but if it’s two years of ‘bad’ Ifedi it’s going to look pretty bad... there also has to be a reason we are letting Ifedi go as well, especially if he’s signing a contract for less than Fant and maybe even less than Shell. We aren’t talking about two great players here we’re talking about a position (RT) where the Hawks are trying to pinch pennies.

Interesting. I suppose they're recognizing the fact that there are so many people facing layoffs due to the coronavirus and cutting them some slack until they get their $1200 check.

Regarding signing Cedric Ogbuehi his contract details are as follows:

One year, $2.3MM. $500K guaranteed. $500K signing bonus (Twitter link via Brady Henderson of ESPN.com).

If I read this correctly, if he doesn't make it past TC it will only cost $500,000 - or if we want to clear some
Cap space we could save $2million by cutting him.

NorthHawk, who do you think are possible candidates to get cut pre June 1st right now?

Britt - $8.5 million savings (not so sure I want this even though there are rumours, when healthy, he seems to be a difference maker for the O-line)
Dickson - $3 million savings(this one appears to be a no brainer)
KJ Wright? - $6.5 million savings
Fluker? - $3.7 million savings
T. Thompson? - $2.1 million savings
D. Moore? - $2.1 million savings

Wondering based on what someone said in the Clowney thread if they are trying to find more cap space to pay Clowney for a longer term deal?

No doubt we are going to have to clear some cap space at this point if we are going to sign Clowney. We are probably in the 10-14 mil range right now and will need about 4-5 for draft/practice squad so we might not have to dump it right now, but definitely before the season. Of your list I would say Dickson and Thompson are as good as gone. Moore, Hunt, and Hollister are all probably on the bubble now too. Cutting them could save us another 7 mil. Personally I would like to see Britt extended which should save us some money too. I think KJ and Flucker are pretty safe at this point, but that could change after the draft/training camp if somebody overtakes them as starters.

Thompson has already been given permission to seek a trade, so that suggests he will be cut.
As well, Dickson hasn't played for us much and with the addition of Olsen, the position of a veteran TE
isn't required.

My guess is these types of salary moves are to give them the ability to move or create salary room should they
sign Clowney and another Free Agent DE or some other combination. There doesn't seem to be large
Cap implications if they cut anyone other than Olsen and as long as their Dead Cap number isn't too high
they should be alright. If I remember correctly, the Dead Cap was the issue with Kam and others a couple
of years ago.
After the draft, we might see others like Moore or Britt or Fluker cut if we select highly ranked players in
their positions. I would expect them to take players on both sides of the lines, so before TC, we might
see some changes.

It's easier to fit Clowney in this season if we sign him to a multi year deal as we can spread it out over multiple years, so it could be the opposite: That we're trying to find money to sign him to a one year deal as that's what people are speculating about.
