Time to move to Plan B for the Offensive Line?

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/article-1/Browns-awarded-Michael-Bowie-via-waivers/7949dde9-ca58-419b-ab6a-677de05a7b54

I think I forgot - What exactly is Plan B?

Is it 1-800-CallaOffensiveLineman?

Yeah I'm a a bit disappointed about this. I'd kinda like to know why not IR for a second year OL that stepped up to start a good portion of last season for us and acquitted himself well under those circumstances. It's not like we're already deep at the position.

Yea, this one is a head scratcher. With Britt nursing a sore shoulder, do they really have that much confidence in Winston?

This brain trust has done a lot of amazing things with this team, particularly on defense, but their management of the OL has been questionable to say the least. It's undoubtedly their Achilles heal.

Honestly, I don't really understand the IR process, he was designated cut/IR but some players go straight to IR without the "cut" designation? NE claimed a RB this way, and there was a stink about it. Does it save the team money to make those players available first? Or is every IR situation handled that way and we just don't hear about it? ( I kind of doubt that, otherwise pro bowlers would be available every time they went on IR like Bowman). Could someone clarify how or more importantly WHY a team would do it one way or another?

Maybe the FO is sending another message to the team.

Here is a clarification:

>>>>>>Prior to the first preseason cutdown date, injured players with less than four years of service cannot go onto IR until they pass through waivers. The Seahawks either thought no one would claim Bowie, didn't want him or needed an open 90-man roster spot badly, and now the Browns have an interesting project to follow.<<<<<<<<<<

Oops.

Then again, if we can win a SB with last year's OL, anything's possible:)

Maybe we end up with a decent prospect from another team after cuts, but that's hardly a plan.

Unless a couple players rise to the occasion, like Carpenter and Britt/Winston, this OL could very well be worse than last season's. It certainly doesn't look good on paper.

44 sacks is the benchmark.

One way or another, I don't see the line being worse than a year ago. If for no other reason, I think RW will be able to make his reads even faster, and having Harvin back will allow him to get rid of the ball quicker on short routes. As always, we could use more screen passes mixed in the game plan as well.

The OL wouldn't have to sell it, either, just play like they do normally:)

Wilson got hit way too much last year.
It's only a matter of time before he starts missing games if the OL doesn't improve significantly.

Wow.Bowie gone. Glen Dorsey possibly out the entire yr. That sound we hear knocking is the Cardinals and the Rams. It is getting louder and louder by the second. Last thing you want in a physical division is to start losing pieces upfront in TC.

Bowie must have not been able to compete within the locker room or came into camp with an attitude for them to waive him before the first cuts where he would have to go on waivers.
Considering he started a number of games last year and looked like he might have a future, he was the type of player they liked, so to not protect him by keeping him another week says a lot to me. Unless I'm reading something into this that isn't there.

Rams and Cards were always going to be tough. I'm not as sure about the Cards as I was a couple of months ago because of the player losses on Defense and Ariens is supposedly not happy with the progress of his OL.
The OL comments could just be motivation, but they will almost assuredly miss the 2 starters on Defense.
The Rams have such a good DL, they always play us tough and with Williams as DC, they will play differently - maybe enough so to give our (hopefully otherwise average) OL trouble.

Heard on the radio this morning they would have had to keep him until the 24th, I guess it makes sense sort of, but they didn't need the roster spot desperately, they did sign another player after they cut/ir Bowie, and I would guess the guy doesn't make the squad ultimately, so I'm guessing that either the injury worried them long term, or they felt no one would claim him. Either way it's unfortunate, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Bowie graded out last season as the best rookie lineman in the NFL and was the highest graded lineman on this team, which with the injuries isn't saying necessarily a ton. He showed promise obvobviously, but I do hope that an in shape Carpenter, a year more experienced Sweezy, a healthy all pro Unger, and the two RT can indeed improve this line ( not to mention a hopeful healthy Okung). We'll see.

Harvin and Richardson should allow quicker passes, and if nothing else that should indeed cut down on the hits and sacks Wilson has to endure....

They will have to go deep more than they have in the past to keep the opposing Defenses honest if they go with the quick passes scheme.
I hope both Sweezy and Carpenter take a big step forward as well as Okung stays healthy for a whole year.

One things for sure, this FO does not hesitate to cut people that don't make it. Five teams made waiver claims, they knew he was going to get picked up if there was that much interest.

He showed a lot of potential, but one thing stuck out in my mind about how they choose players and that was the psychology aspect.
If they don't get full buy-in or they can't take the extreme competition within the Seahawks team, they will let them go regardless of their talent.

Losing Bowie could be because of a number of factors, not the least of which might just be a mistake by JS/PC.

It could have been a gamble on Schneider's part, but honestly if that meany teams were interested in him it would have gotten back to him. If he made a mistake, then that was a pretty big one.

Who know's maybe plan B is that his injury has 8 months recovery and browns waive him one hour after he gets there and he slowly makes his way down to were the Hawks can put him on Practice Squad/ IRL
