There was nothing accidental about Mr. Lynch's actions.
Unless you are living in an ivory tower, you know the move was purposeful, and well executed.
By fining him, I now understand we have read the whole adversarial relationship between BeastMode and the NFL hierarchy.
It is just marketing.
He does it.
They love it.
They fine him to bring more publicity and popularity and marketing opportunities for THE LEAGUE.
C'mon, a fine of that unbelievable magnitude, enough to rock the final numbers on the New York Stock Exchange, is only a marketing sham by the NFL.
And BeastMode builds his folk-hero image.
And, with a few more victories, the Hawks become America's team.
The League is using Mr. Lynch as a prop, and Mr. Lynch has been using the NFL hierarchy as a prop.
It reminds me of another current topic involving promotion by Sony for a film about a North Korean with a notable haircut who is big on comic books having at it by shouting about shutting down the internet with the government of this country boosting film attendance by "playing it out". Everybody, somehow or another, will end up benefitting.
Hell of a discourse on Christmas Day.
But, as to Mr. Lynch and the League leaders ...
...I see the light.

My question is: why did/does he do that??

Now with that qualifier out of the way I have no issued with the NFL fining Marshawn for grabbing his crotch as he went in to the end zone. It is a gesture that is a very low class manner of taunting your opponent.
Can you imagine the uproar by the 12th man if Colin Kappernick had run 70 yards for a TD and upon entering the end zone turned towards the Seahawk's team and grabbed his crotch in Century Link Field? Most 12th men would have gone nuts. Doubt what I am saying? Please - I heard grown men crying for years over Terrell Owens" taking a sharpie out of his sock and signing a football after he scored a TD against the Hawks on a Monday night game. This act by Owens is not nearly as controversial as turning towards the opposing team and grabbing your package after a big play.
So what will be next if the NFL ignores this gesture by Lynch? A crotch grabbing sack dance by players after they sack the QB? Or how about a player turning towards the other team as they enter the end one and display to the opposing team the middle finger?
Grabbing the crotch area as a display of "whatever" towards another person (or team) is behavior that has always been considered classless and definitely un-sportsman like and hopefully will continue to be viewed that way by members of a civilized society.
RiverDog wrote:I remember Ken Griffey, Jr. grabbing his crotch one time after crossing home plate following a home run he hit as a not so complimentary gesture to the opposing manager, Sparky Anderson, for intentionally walking him in his previous at-bat. That one was a pretty class-less act, IMO. But I don't think MLB fined him for it.
It's hard to say what kind of message, if any, Lynch was trying to send. Perhaps he's just doing it to be funny.
If it was really so obscene or embarrassing that it deserved a fine, why didn't the league ask the networks not to show the part where he grabbed his crotch instead of replaying it 10,000 times, including on NFL Network?
c_hawkbob wrote:Pretty obvious to me he was saying "hold my d!ck b!tches, you can't stop me!". Y'all can tell yourselves he was just adjusting his cup or satisfying a quick itch or maybe supporting himself against possible groin injury all you want, but there wasn't anything cute or innocent or innocuous about that at all. He was 100% celebrating his absolute dominance over a vanquished foe.

Maybe it was suppose to mean something like that. Maybe he does the same crotch grab jumping into the hotel swimming pool and just thought it was a fun way to celebrate. Who knows. I sure don't. Lynch ain't talking and I haven't heard anyone close to him explain the gesture so we're all left to speculate. All I know is that it was intentional and that it made me laugh.
Perhaps he will do what Tim Tebow did and take out a patent on his TD celebration.

Anthony wrote:Given all the other stuff that is done to celebrate I have no real problem with it, After that run he can do whatever he wants. Interestingly he has done it before on long runs but never got fined for it.
The NFL fined him because it doesn't fit with the image they are attempting to portray for all the soccer mom and kiddies watching, not because he broke any rules or did anything differently than all the other "marquee" players, they simply didn't like the matter in which he celebrated.
Bird Droppings wrote:Well, Kemo Savvy, you know if the NFL thinks it can make a dime off an authentic NFL Crotch Sack, comeplete with NFL and team logos, then the NFL will market such a product.
Opportuniies would be endless. Perhaps one style for the defense, and a variation for the offense.
As I suggested earlier in this thread, both Mr. Lynch and NFL are benefitting from his actions, and fine.
Now, how about a BeastMode money sack to hold those fines in.
