I have no doubt you'll disagree, but I paid as close attention to this team at that time as anyone (as I'm sure you did, too), and Ruskell mismanaging the team was never an overwhelming theme if it was one at all (in fact everyone thought he was a pretty good exec, with Lofa et al as feathers in his cap at the time).

What would be my motivation to stay? Just because I said I wanted to at some point?

Not necessarily to stay, but to talk to him before you leave? Your boss, and "fans" of your company, sure as h3ll might think so!

Really? I seem to remember not EVER liking Ruskell and most people with football intelligence agreed. In the beginning of course you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Also I never liked the finesse style the FO was going for in that era.

One of TR's problems was that he didn't make his first pick count. Not a single #1 draft pick yielded a solid starter. It was sorry, from the Branch trade to Lawrence Jackson to Kelly Jennings to Chris Spencer, not to mention things like losing Hutch or signing Housh. TR had more luck in the second round, with guys like Lofa and John Carlson. But striking out at the top of the draft killed us, which is one of the reasons why I get so uptight when I see us not fully utilizing that top pick.

I think the main problem for Tim Ruskell was his whole approach to being a GM. Ruskell was GM for 5 years. His top 6 draft choices during that time were:

Tatupu, Mebane, Unger, Bryant, Hill and Carlson (caveat: I'm only including Carlson because you did, IMO he really didn't contribute all that much) and it really took Pete Carroll figuring out how to use Bryant before he became a value.

Carroll and Schneider had 6 better picks in their first draft: Okung, Thomas, Tate, Thurmond, Chancellor and McCoy

It wasn't the first pick in the draft that was Ruskell's problem. It was the draft. That and his pathological committment to drafting and signing undersized "character" guys.

I am really beginning to dislike this guy again. What was the quote? "I'd rather play with ten men and get penalized alll the way down the field . . . .".

I think we should just let him sit. Let him work on his "brand" for awhile. I am sure that stock will spike nicely while you are holding out VD. Lol, brilliant business mind.
