I guess they are possibly interested in Britt, though he is visiting Washington. If Rice becomes some sort of hot commodity, a cheap one or two year deal with Britt might be a low cost, worthy gamble. He was crapola last season, to the point he couldn't even get on the football field, and has had injury issues ( and I think DUI off the field) but he has talent, is big bodied and can run. It might be worth keeping an eye on...

According to PFT, the Seahawks current cap space is $15,213,737.
That's about middle of the road for the NFL.

Here is a link for all teams.

That's more than I thought North. Thomas is already making 5+ Mil a year, so I assume a 3 Mil a year bump would probably do a long term deal.

I'm starting to worry about the reality of keeping Wilson, Thomas and Sherman together. If the cap continues to jump as projected we'll be okay, but it doesn't feel like we have a bunch of players with over payed contracts anymore. I guess we could try to extend Sherman now but we would have no room left afterwards. Also, Wilson will be in year 3 of his contract and theoretically we could wait until year four to extend him to buy time for the cap to grow.

Hopefully Sherman doesn't feel he needs to be payed the most to be considered the best.

I can see a situation where Sherman looks at what Revis gets next year and wants more. It's going to cost a lot for him in any event, but it might push the cost out of reach.
Here's hoping Revis has an off year.

Thomas is going to get 10 million + per year. Book it. Thomas is the best safety in the league right now and Jairus Byrd just got 9 million a year from the Saints. There is no way Thomas signs for 8 - 8.5.

Kal,

You might be surprised. The LOB may be pretty fair in order to stay together. I felt Kam's contract was more than fair. My worry isn't Thomas anyway, it's how Sherman responds to the way Revis is getting paid.

That was before Kam played like an all-pro. If they could get Thomas for 8 - 8.5 he'd already be signed.

So what are we looking at - 25 million for those 3 players (Kam, Sherm, and ET)?
It will still be under 20% of the cap for 3 very important players and when we add in Wilson it will be around 33%.

I'm guessing it'll cost 10-11 to get Thomas signed and 12-13 to get Sherman signed unless he really tries to break the bank Revis style in which case Sherman would have to be allowed to walk.

So we're looking at closer to 30 million + wilson.
That will be almost 50 millon for 4 players - about 35%.
Even if the cap goes to 144 million, that's a very large part for 4 players.

Yes it's a lot, which is why I was surprised they locked up Kam last year (although they really did get him at a good number considering the season he just had). I figured he would be allowed to go. Also you can't forget Okung who has to be paid as well.

The good side is that the team has a lot of young talent to fill in for players like Tate and Thurmond. As much as I like Tate, if Harvin can stay healthy and they draft and/or sign a cheaper big outside WR, that situation will be an upgrade over what Tate provided (on paper at least). Also the front office has done a very good job of staggering cap hits. That's also why they have to get Thomas inked this offseason (Sherman too if possible), that way they can front load some of the cap hit into this season where they won't have to worry about his average salary as much when they ink they extend other guys.

Be prepared for Lynch to no longer be the starting RB starting with the 2015 season, especially if Michael comes along as expected. The structure of his contract screams for his release at that point while Michael is still on his rookie number and clearing money for Okung and Wilson to get raises.

Not sure Okung is going to be getting re signed much less a raise unless he can actually stay healthy for a season. 11.25 a year isn't going to fly for a part time player ( granted it is a part time stud). Lynch is one of those decisions that they will have to make, and most if not all saw his number as to much, and that was before Micheals was drafted.... next season is the year were things get interesting. People were upset with Clemmons, Red , and Tate, but next year will be the "hard" choices.

Saying goodbye to Marshawn will be the toughest because he set the tone for all out effort.
I'm not sure we would be the reigning champions without some of his tough runs right after his arrival here.
That seemed to get everyone on the same physical page in all phases, not just Offense.

I would be extremely surprised if Lynch were on our Roster after next season, unless he restructures. His cap number is 9 mil in 2015 with only 1 mil in dead money if we release him. It would be great if he could stick around for a few more years but his cap number would have to go way down.

His cap number this year is way too high, but next year it goes down in the 7 mil range, which isn't bad at all. Basically we have 2 more years before we have to do anything with him and hopefully we get a better idea of the player he is going to be in that time.

Jared Allen is coming back for a second visit. I can't see paying him more than two years at 6 - 7m? Would he come down that much just to get a deal done when the going rate for over 30+ , but productive DE's (10+ sacks) is around 10m?

We you all talk about extensions, seems like Bobby Wagner never gets mentioned, but he is very, very important to the D. He also comes up with Russell.
He also won't be cheap. He's going to be around 8m a year... 4 @ 30+

Never forgot Wagner... he is just no where near the top of the priority list IMO. He may eventually get done instead of one of the other guys but it will only be a result of one of the other guys pricing himself out.

Sweet! I bet we ink Allen today. Great news JSH!

Now, if we could only get our pal Thomas to sign the magical 8.5 Mil a year contract for the sake of continuity. 8-)
