Suh to the Hawks?

Postby obiken » Fri Apr 25, 2014 2:04 pm

The Lions are shopping N. Suh, (See NFL.com) IF we could get him could PC control him and turn him into a one man wrecking crew for the Hawks??

There is no doubt you kick the tires on that trade opportunity, but you have to take into account what it will cost in a trade and how much you would have to pay him.

You ABSOLUTELY check on the price for a player that talented.
If the price lines up with what you'd give up, you do it. That simple.

Well. would finally have a bonafide pass rush, a DT who would totally destroy the middle of an O-Line. Suh draws double terams and that would free up everyone else from the D-Line to the LB's.

I'd have to see what the price is first. We've already got the best defense in the league so I'm not sure how much of a difference Suh would make on our team. It would seem to be a bit of overkill. I'd rather concentrate on resigning our core guys and improve the offense than get into a bidding war for a big name defensive player like Suh.

Absolutely check out the asking price.
He dominates inside like no other and he would have no problem moving out west.
Maybe even give up a player they might want for him.
The issue would be paying him.

I'll be the nay sayer... no effing way. Suh's cap number and contract extension are going to be completely unreasonable. Forget Suh... resign Sherm, Thomas and Wilson.

I'll second the naysaying. In addition to the other negatives mentioned, he's a dick.

I doubt the Lions trade Suh, and the article pretty much concludes the same thing.

Besides, the contract would be prohibitive, especially given we have some big deals ourselves to finish, and other franchises would likely completely outbid us, anyway.

Beyond that, no, I don't want the guy here. Our defense doesn't need him, and he's a headcase that could get worse. I do think they're making too big a deal about him missing voluntary workouts, though.

RD, provided the price was right and he was a good personality fit for our team(not looking so from some of the comments I have seen), to have him would probably not be too much overkill, IMO.
Especially given the fact that on any given play in any given game you can lose a player for the season due to injury. Having a strong bench is what got us to the Big Dance in the first place.

The price would have to be awfully damn cheap IMO.

What I fear, especially if we make a big play for Suh, say trade away a couple of first round picks and sign him to a big salary, is that we could become a one dimensional team. We have some very big holes to fill on offense, much more so than on defense, and can't afford to dedicate a large amount of resources to another defensive player, especially considering the guys we have to re-sign.

I see your point RD. And to that scenario you mentioned about trading a couple of first rounders for him, I say HELL NO! And yes, we have big holes to fill on offense as you correctly mentioned. The stars would have to align big time for us to take him IMO. I personally don't see it happening.

I say hell no to Suh. I don't care how good he is, he is a dirty player, a me guy and IMO a head case.

No way No how.

Here's a question regarding Suh.

Would any of you trade Sherman straight across for Suh if it also meant trading draft positions in the first two rounds with the Lions? I love Sherman, but I thought I would throw out a crazy idea since this is a forum.

Trade a proven commodity, that ostensibly wants to be here, that fits the scheme to a "T", that is one with the LOB...

For a headcase, dirty player, dickhead and two unknowns?

I hope you can discern my answer. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

Yeah Burrton, but.......he would be directing all that dirty play at Kaps nut sack. I'm ok with that.

I want Kap's nutsack bludgeoned repeatedly *within the rules*. It's no fun beating someone if you go outside of the rules to do so (in fact, it's not really beating them at all).

If he stays in Detroit it will be interesting to see how they structure the new contract with them already paying Stafford and Johnson huge money. Those 3 already add up to 50 million in cap costs in 2014 and Suh's cap figure this year is 22 million.
They didn't pick up Fairley's option so maybe he might be an interesting FA if he comes available when it's time.

No. A young, proven to fit our scheme best in the league shutdown cornerback is more valuable than an All Pro DL IMO. I wouldn't trade Sherman straight across for J.J. Watt, who IMO is a better DL than Suh. And I'll add that there's no single player in the league that I'd trade across for any of our top 3 players...Wilson, Thomas, and Sherman.

I do not think this would happen. This team needs to keep the cap in a manageable place. Suh's contract would destroy that. His contract is around 23 mil. He is not that good.

This is an easy no. Its called diminishing returns.

Every snap that Suh gets is a snap taken away from one of our (high quality) guys that we either spent good money on or used a draft pick on.

Do we really have anyone on the DL that we want getting FEWER snaps than they are expected to?

As for salary cap, do people think the unknown improvement from having Suh is greater than the known value of our own guys that are in line for a big contract?

Once we have our top guys locked up and we see what the salary cap is next year FOR SURE then the hawks can throw around some money if they want. Until then they risk not being able to lock up our top guys.

Forget it now its not going to happen, they just signed Thomas to a 10 mil year deal, once they get RS signed its over for the cap.
