Kap still proving why he is no RW!!

Took kids to the movie theaters In riverbank to watch spiderman 2. the place was empty only 4 other people their. Then a group of four came in and me and my 3 boys recognize one of them. Colin kap. He sat behind us. as big fans of the niners we wanted to take a picture so i told my boys to let him enjoy the movie and we could ask after. Once the movie was over and they got up to leave my 7&14 boys approached him and ask if they could take a picture with him and he flat out said no. They were confused so i told them not to worry about it and go. He took off and once out side (no one around him) another kid maybe 5-7yrs old approached him too and told him no also. Both times their was no one else around.now I have to try and explain to them why he couldn't take 10sec. To look at the camera and smile it would have made their day.

When I hear news like this about Kap, it just reinforces my perception of him, the 49ers, and how crap rolls down hill.
Is this more evidence that their organization is about to implode?

It wouldn't surprise me if it were true. If Kaep has shown anything throughout his brief career, it's that he doesn't give a rip about anyone else but himself, especially when it comes to his fan base. But then there's a matter of the source.

I honestly really hate the RW vs. CK comparison in terms of petty crap like this.

May not have happened like this. But for sure, if it did, this is not a good thing for Kap.

But again, they are people too, maybe they had someplace to go immediately afterwards. And if they had a place to go to, they should have politely told them the situation. Maybe not. Who knows?

Not ready to jump on the guy either way although I do admit that if true its pretty ridiculous not to give a 10 sec pic to aspiring admirers.

The source is an advid SF fan, check out his Facebook page, I am pretty sure this one is true, no reason for an SF fan to show something bad about their own players, not to mention it does go with Kaps MO.

Lol. And there is another article in Sacbee about him showing up and spending extra time hanging out with an injured highschool player. I wonder which story is right? Maybe both.

In any case like I keep saying, you don't know ANY of these guys. There is literally a story like this for every athlete that's ever played. People raved about Chris Mullin, how nice he is, and when.I met him in Sac he was the biggest jerk ever. He was sitting at an autograph signing and I said "hey Chris, how are you?!" with a big smile. He looks at me stonefaced, no reply. Then he gives a big, phony smile for the camera for a pic with him and I. There are a lot of similar stories floating around about Joe Montana stonewalling people.

I'd like to think I would accommodate everyone if I were in the same position. I love talking with random people. But it seems almost impossible, to be honest. From having a bad day to losing trust in people it seems like you could not avoid offending someone at some point. I love my gf, but I just asked her to move from the couch because I needed space. Now she's upset.

Such is life.

Thought I would share a positive story some of you will like. I will try to keep it brief.

At age 19 (38 now) I was a huge fan of Alice In Chains. Like many people, I really connected with their music. Over the course of one week, I ended up writing endless fanmail to them. I wrote all over the envelopes and painted designs on them. I chided them with sarcastic jokes in my letters, just to let them know I looked at them as people, not stars. I expressed my full appreciation and love for everything AIC.

They all ended up writing me back. They posed for a fake album cover based on one of my jokes, where they all wore gas masks and the album cover was titled "Down in her hole"! Lol! Layne wrote a personal note that said "what?! You didn't know? I'm doing this for the kids!"

I could not believe these guys took their own time to recognize a lonely 19 yr old kid. They are the coolest guys ever. RIP Layne Staley.

These are the kinds of stories that I hate to see people holding against celebrities. It can at the same time be completely true but also completely reasonable for Kaep not to stop and take pictures with people.

I feel bad for the kids, and from this fan's perspective all he wanted was a quick picture but he saw another kid ask him the same question a few minutes later. Now extrapolate that over the span of 24 hours let alone every day.

I'm not going to bag on Kaep for that. He's entitled to a little of his own time. Unfortunately kids are going to have their feelings hurt and that sucks but all he'd do is sign autographs and take pictures if he was determined to never make a kid unhappy.

RW is awesome but it's hard for me to imagine there isn't a kid out there that was denied a picture and feels like Russell's Wilson entire image is a facade.

Yes, Kal, I agree 100 percent with your post. As I posted, Kaep could have had somewhere to go, whatever, but the ultimate losers are the kids. And no one likes to see that happen.

Unfortunately I lost it all years ago in one of several moves. It sucks because I would love to post it all on an AIC fan website so everyone could see the personalized notes they wrote back. I actually think I am going to look through my dad's old stuff to see if it got stuffed their. I'd love to share it with all AIC fans! They also took a pic with everyone fexing because I told them they all needed to hit the gym. How fn cool is that for them to go to that extent. I think I am going to email Jerry Cantrel's box at the new AIC site to thank him and see if he remembers (if he reads them). These guys are truly humble "real" people.

That's proof of absolutely nothing. I've seen fans do a complete 180 when their 'heros' don't live up to their expectations. I'm not buying some jilted fan's story unless there's one or two other accounts to back it up.

Having said that, this incident does fit a pattern of this classless, self centered jerk, from the insensitive way in which he addressed fans that complained about his Miami baseball cap to his refusal to take off his headphones in press conferences. This is NOT they type of person you want as the "Face of the Franchise".

Great so he was already at the event to speak to people, and went over to the guy, knowing everyone is watching. HMMM not the same as what he does when know one is watching, or he thinks no one is watching. SO we know that Kap when he knows he is being watched will do the PC thing, but when he doe snot he will not.

The point to me is he could have handled it better, than just NO. It takes 10 seconds to take a picture.

And there in lies the point, you take this account, along with the fans page, along with Kaps past behavior and you have a pretty strong case that this probably did happen. To me it is less about the not taking the picture than the way it was handled.

I understand that, Anthony. But I'm still very cautious when we hear this scuttle butt from a single fan that is not accountable for the things he/she says. At least reporters have an obligation to their profession as well as to their employers to get the story right. Fans aren't accountable to anyone.

Even if it did happen which I totatlly believe it did. I don't think it's an indictment of Kaepernick. Maybe RW really does pose for pictures with every single kid that asks him but I can't imagine anyone has that much time every day he has to say no from time to time.

Maybe he could have handled it better, maybe. But if he takes the time to explain why, he might as well just take the picture. The whole point of saying no is if he says yes to everyone he'll never get to do anything else. Plus, I'm betting as soon as he's seen taking a picture a line starts to form and before you know it one10 second encounter turns into 10 minute meet and greet, making sure fans don't get offended because how can you say yes to one person but not another?

I think if you're going to measure something like this (which I probably still wouldn't) I would be more interested in how he acts at training camp days that are open to the public. If he refuses to stay after and sign in a setting where the fans are brought into close proximity with the players on purpose I would lend it a little more credibility.

I totally agree with Kal on this. I would HATE to be famous for the PERPETUAL interruptions in my private life (and for other reasons too, but this one is germane to the topic). I realize that some of this comes with the territory of being a sports icon, but I also think that athletes and celebs are entitled some moments of privacy. Can you imagine people wanting your picture every few seconds?? That would get really old. Paparazzi literally stalk stars and athletes (park outside the grocery store and lie in wait) so that they can take and sell pictures for money. How is CK to know who is legit and who isn't? I'm sure it's always just one more person, just one more photo, the "hey, but "we" are HUGE fans," scenario, or "they are just kids" etc... The dude is waiting out some trouble in Florida - who knows what a photo could be doctored to look like? Who knows what was going on with him?

I happened to stay at a hotel in Palm Springs that was the setting for the Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala (twice, actually). As BIG stars walked by, one by one, I actually started to feel sorry for them. At first I spoke to some and I did take a few photos, but I really started feeling like I was invading their personal space. My group of friends stopped staring and taking photos and just chatted amongst ourselves. (OK, so we'd say "Matthew McConaughey and his wife are headed our way" - but nobody cranked their head around, said anything, or took pictures after awhile. After Melissa McCarthy and her hubby stopped for a quick photo, I could just sense that she'd rather not have to deal with us and I felt kinda gross, really. I know we are grown-ups and not kids........but really, the concept is the same. If he behaved that way at the end of a Niner practice, that would be one thing.

RW charges $3,000 to throw a football to you. If he were such a saint, he'd do that for free.

Yep Sis. I haven't had too many run ins with celebrities but back in I guess it was 1999 (thanks Google) I was at the movies with my friends to watch the Matrix and MC Hammer came in the theater with his family. No one really realized who he was at first but my friend in a moment of not so great judgment, actually yells out "Yo! There goes Hammer". He handled it great and actually sat in the row in front of us and offered to buy us snacks and stuff, really cool guy. But the second my friend called attention to him people started making excuses to come over to the area of the theater where we were sitting. Asking for autographs, asking for pictures... it went on all through the previews and then picked up big time after the movie was over. Dude just wanted to watch a movie with his kids.

And this is a guy who was well past his days of being a much of a relevant celebrity, music career over (as far as the national scene), post bankruptcy and to be honest was thought of as a joke by a lot people at that point.

Now imagine if you're the superbowl winning QB or the "coolest" Madden QB in the NFL? These guys have to get hounded constantly. I have to cut them some slack at some point.

Absolutely. I was young and this was prior to the internet. Everytime I think about it I want to kick myself for not gaurding that with my life. Moreso for all the other AIC fans that are missing out on this cool memorabilia than for myself. It makes you like the band even more when they show genuine interest in their fans like that.

It's been my experience that treating a "star" like a real person, instead of a "star" will 9 times out of 10 get a genuine response. Have met a fair share of athletes in my life, and honestly, few have been douches ( Boz not with standing, that guy is a d!check with a capital D), they are after all just people, and like people, sometimes they just don't want to deal with everything thrown their way.Personally I have little problem with sports athletes not signing every scrap of paper thrown at them, people HAVE to understand when it comes time to walk away, and when not to. If you read the comments on this article, there is some explanation ( something like he said he was with family) which personally I have zero problem with.

isn't the coolest thing to do, but it HAS been done for a lot longer than most of us have been alive for, simply put, because of the insane access people have to posting, reporting and relaying this stuff, the worse it is for modern day athletes or stars. Since I understand that these guys are simply people, I have little issue with stuff of this nature, it's the active provocation by the athletes themselves that shows a lack of decorum and maturity. Whether that be instagram pics of naked chicks, photo's of them smoking weed, getting drunk or flashing gang signs, etc is where my understanding wanes.

In essence it's alright to be a young idiot, but don't go promoting the bad choices you are in the process of making. We all do/did dumb sh!t, but bragging about it seems pointless to me...

I agree... Most people are decent people, irrespective of their lot in life. I have had WAY more than my fair share of not just meeting, but chillin' with famous people dating back to my Cousin's days with the Falcons. (I was most excited to meet Steve Bartkowski, William Andrews and the kicker (Mick Luckhurst - anyone remember that name?)

I've visited with P!nk, hung out with Michael Jordan (all day long), and met a lot of others including Harry Connick Jr., Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, Charlize Theron, Melissa McCarthy.......but none more special than meeting Big Walt and your Seattle Seahawks. Hell, even Dwight Clark and Bubba Paris were nice dudes. And every one of them deserves private moments - including Tiger Woods and CK7. I think being any kind of public figure in this era of Twitter, facebook, camera phones etc......... has to be pretty crappy.

(as an aside - biggest jerk I ever met was Michael Irvin. TOTAL D!<K)

+ 1 sista and HC. I met Bart Starr, nicest guy you could meet! Gave me an autograph too.
But Diana Ross, not so nice. Joan RIvers okay with me at least.
John McCain, courteous and respectful. Though he seemed very busy at the time. Muhammad Ali was a nice guy too, though he said some strange things to me. He was already suffering from Parkinson's at the time.

You kinda have to have been there to pass judgment on something like this, if it indeed happen somewhat closely to what our jilted fan says it did, and I can certainly understand that the taxation on the personal time of professional athletes can be extremely irritating. The problem for me is that this type of behavior just seems to fit Kaep like a glove. I mean, if the guy won't even respond to a polite request to leave the headphones behind when he does interviews, then something like this is completely within the guy's character.

Kaep needs to go the route of Alex Rodriguez and hire a PR department equipped with personal handlers and business agents. He has a real image problem, and doesn't appear able to change it on his own.

I say cut him some slack, but hard to believe he wouldn't pose for a few pictures (within reason, of course) with his contract negotiations on hold due to the 'hotel room' brouhaha.

It can't be determined with any accuracy, but there *is* a dollar amount attached to bad press and trouble finding you too often, and it's going to be reflected in his next contract.

Oh well- the less he signs for, the less upward pressure there will be on RW's contract, so I guess keep giving them the finger, Kaep!

Can't go either way on this, it may fit into the Kaep persona that is out there, but personally I don't know what his mindset was when this happened.
And I can't fault him.

SB Nation has a different story. Supposedly he was at the end of several functions (one of them youth) he had done that day and was taking a break with his family at the movie. Before leavong he told one woman sorry, I cannot sign, we are leaving. A crowd gathered. Then a woman came running up holding her child and wanted a picture. She quickly became agitated, cursing, etc. Hense the Facebook rant.

Who knows what happened. In the bay area we see a lot of local interviews that the nation doesn't. My impression of him in 2011 as a rookie was a very goofy kid, always smiling during every interview and every question. We heard all the stories about the good things he did at Nevada, like buying his own jersey for a kid that came in the local sports store. These are the reasons I defended him so vehemently on this board.

When he hit the limelight he barely spoke with national media. People hate that but I love it. I could care less what he gives the national media. He is still engaging and humble on our radio, and our radio guys live him. People hate the biceps kiss and the flipping of the ball at Clay Mathews in the playoffs. I love it. He is the ant Alex Smith. He has fire and moxy. The panthers all mocked Kap's bicep kiss in their win, and then everyone jumped on him for giving the Superman mock back when we won. I love his competitiveness.

So maybe he's a dick,; who knows. But at least now you know how I formed my opinion. Lol, if anyone cared to know.

SB does have a different take, what I find interesting though is the writer doe snot say who he got his info from. For all we know it was Kap and he is trying to save face, or it is SFs PR people. The fact that the writer even says even if this was 100% and Kap was kind of rude about it, basically oh well the fans need to understand. Not to mention this I a niner writer hmmm.

For me it is not jut this one thing, but all the other things together that make it obvious he does not get it.

I actually find the SBNation story more believable. Seems plausible (to me) there was more to the story.

So maybe he's a d*ck,; who knows.

Well, we *know* he's kind of a d*ck, at least as far as popular sports figures go.

Again, though, I have no problem giving these kids a wide berth on behavior.

Is anyone really like Russell Wilson?

I think even Mother Theresa might come up a little short when compared against Wilson.

I'm not. No way in hell could I ever set foot in Children's and look those terminally ill kids in the eye like he does. I'm not that strong, and I have a habit of avoiding things that makes me uncomfortable. Russell does it like he belongs there.

I don't know what I said River. I'm not really into playing the gotcha game here anymore. In this specific post I was referring to the genesis behind my defending him in our many arguments in the past - not what happened in Miami. Your definition of "antics" and mine are clearly different, because I can't recall nary an antic he has ever been involved in. You are obviously referring to curt interviews, Dolphin hat talk and things that are not even on my radar of caring about.

Like I said, if he begins to have legal trouble then you move on and do so without hesitation. All I was doing was giving you a background on how my opinion was formed. Obviously, that opinion would change if there are/were REAL reasons (ie legal, locker room conflicts) to believe he is a detriment to our team.

I'm kinda over the pissing match he said he said stuff though. I'd prefer to enjoy my blogging time again ;).
