No surprise with Clowney being the first pick.

Next up is Rams - See them taking one of the two top OT's.

The first three picks seem to be special athlete's - ahead of all their competition - at their position - after this pick it gets much harder.

Well, first, virtually every coach in the NFL (not named Pete Carroll) should be feeling a little of that.

That said, eh, you can't do sh*t without a QB. They're taking a chance.

Exactly.
My guess is they probably thought about trading down far enough to still get Bortles, but no one wanted to move, so they just took the QB they had highest rated.

I'll say this, I think he's probably the safest pick of all the QB's in this draft, because of his prototype size and arm etc...and since no one else at QB jumps out, then why not Bortles if you need a QB?
He's as good a guess or better than any other QB in this draft.

Bortles could turn out to be very good - who knows now?

However, everyone agreed that Watkins was hands down one of the more explosive and talented receivers to come out of the draft recently. Great teams are built by taking the best talent on the board - not by drafting - and at times reaching - for the best player at a position of need.

Reason I mentioned Bradley insecurity is that all new coaches fortunes are tied to a top draft pick QB when they pick them - Most owners and fan bases will give 2 - 3 years for a top QB to either prove themselves or wash out - Bradley just drafted a job security blanket for the next two seasons.

He's exactly the type of WR Pete would love to have. Kinda jealous of that pick.

It's my guess that the Vikings are why the Jags had to grab Bortles where they did.
They couldn't trade down past Minnesota and expect him to still be there, because the Vikes likely would have grabbed him.

I was thinking along the same lines - Bortle's pick - who was projected a very low first or second round pick - might panic some other teams to use first round picks for the other top QB's - and this would be excellent for the Hawks as more talented players at other positions will now be available at #32.

I still see a guy who just looks the part more than he plays the part (Bortles). Cleveland still being Cleveland. I'm with you Monkey. I had been tracking Evans the entire season. I was so mad when he ran well at the combine and shot up the draft board as a result. Same with Odell Beckham (although at least Beckham is smaller than what the Hawks need). I'm just hoping someone takes Beckham before San Fran can trade up to get him.

So far Bortles is the only surprise, gets harder as we go...... Was expecting Jacksonville to follow the "build the team, then draft the QB " process Carroll and Schneider did, guess either he didn't agree with that Philosophy or he thinks he's further along than most do... or maybe Khan trumped him to put butts in the seats.

Agreed - They are looking more and more like the NFC version of the Bronco's.

However, with the addition of the Top rated draft TE and a very good golden tate they will be a force to deal with through the air.

Wondering if the Cardinals at #20 would make a play (such as trading up) for Manziel?

I did not realize that Gruden was so high on Manziel - remember that other short QB that Gruden was real high on?

Rams in the NFC and Indy in the AFC would be my long money bets in Vegas to win it all next year.

So halfway through and three WR's and four offensive linemen are off the board.
Unless there is a sudden run on both, we SHOULD be in line to get a very good player either at WR or on the O-line the way this is falling.
If Manziel and Bridgewater continue to slide, then we may also have a chance to trade down, and still get a good player at one of those two spots, which would of course, be even better.

So far really NOT liking the draft from the NFC West standpoint! Rams got significantly better and probably the best pick in the whole draft so far value wise with Donald, and the Cards picked up more picks by trading down...lame!

I still don't quite get what Cleveland did with that first move down, didn't make much sense to me, BUT getting Manziel after trading up, that actually does make sense to me. Gives them something to get excited about, hopeful for, while not overspending on him either. Where they took him makes sense IMO.

I didn't see much of a threat for any of the other teams to take him ( at least until their following pick) and to be honest, I bet they could have waited all the way to Seattle, moved up into that spot at less cost and still have drafted him at 32. So I guess at this point I'm looking at the Raiders to make a move over Houston.Interesting move by Cleveland there.

You may be right about that, but as far as value, getting him where they did makes sense to me.
I have no idea if they could have waited, (though now that you say that, it does look like they could have...) I just thought that at 22, it's a good pick.

Agreed, Bitonio is WAY better, and more versatile.

Looks like we get a fourth for that pick, so....there's that I guess.
I'm just worried now that we miss out on everyone we could have had, for a fourth rounder.
Still though, there's several REALLY good WR's left, and Bitonio is still available. Lot's of talent left.

I'm personally hoping for either Bitonio, or Latimer. Either one would make me no end of happy.

Got the trade out, got the player traded in for ( Bridgewater) though I whiffed on who I thought would trade in for him ( thought CCleveland, Oakland or Jacksonville, though I did mention Minnesota as a possible landing spot) and was a teeny bit off on compensation ( though it was BETTER than I predicted of a swap of seconds, a third and a late pick) turning into a high second, and a fourth. I'm happy ( as I think there will indeed be a run on second tier QB's and Seattle will STILL get the guy they wanted at 32).

Well, essentially, Seattle picked up an early fourth-round pick to slide back eight spots...Tomorrow should be interesting with two picks in the second round, @ #40 and #64.

Haha and I still don't. But the more I read about him the more I like the pick. We need as many cover guys as possible. The ladt thing I wanted was Benjamin or Lee or Latimer, who we may still take but is a project. In theory I like this pick. I'll withhold an opinion until after I see him play.
