Goodness, L. Tomilson is getting eaten alive by Zach Allen.

Poor effort by Zach Charbonet, not trying to reach out to clear the goal line. Literally lands on the goal line.

Well we should be down by much more than 4. Now we'll see about Mac'D's halftime adjustments.

What a bizarre and incompetent offensive half. Worst I think I’ve seen. A pick, two safeties, a stupid “go for 2” waaaay too early, and a whole lotta nuthin! Our offense and st gifted the Broncos 10 points plus giving away a point for net -11. C’mon boys…. Get it together thank god for the D.

maybe they should have played the starters a little more in preseason....offense does not look good...maybe one of the worst first halfs in recent memory. Time to turn things around!!!!!

He isn’t good at anything, at least some backups are good run blockers, poor pass blockers or vice versa. He is crap at both, and causing false starts. Just need to slide help to his side rest of the game.

Talk about a tale of two half’s. It’s definitely encouraging to see our defense not lose a step in the 2nd half. We won’t get a rookie qb every week, so it’s good to work out the kinks and get these offense starters playing together. If we can have this 2nd half offense every week, and this high flying defense… look out

If O line play doesn't improve, we're in for a very mediocre season at best and an injured starting QB.

Goods and bads:

Good
Tackling is back in vogue in Seattle. We've missed it.
The middle of the DL looks much improved.
The LBs are real fast.
The Offense is using the RBs in the pass game.
WRs are using more crossing routes.
Good half time adjustments.

Bad
The OL is still a work in progress but I guess we have to expect that for a while after a decade or more of neglect.

Overall it went as expected with the Defenses ahead of the Offenses and a lot of small mistakes on both sides that should be corrected as the season wears on.

I will note that the new defense seems to be faster to the ball and looked pretty good and although we still don't have a top 10 pass rush, we did disrupt Bo's offense enough to keep them out of the end zone even when giving them starting positions inside our 20 a couple of times. Not playing against a rookie will be the telling game. This weeks game is against a better New England who also has a good D and limited offense.

However, our offense looked more like last years then I want to see. Not counting two 1 yard line starts we had no offense until the 3rd qtr and then shut down in back end of the 4th. If it wasn't for Tyler's one-hand grab for the last 1st down, we would have given the Donkeys a shot to win.

Zach Charbonnet

Just my opinion on his performance and usage. I am actually quite surprised he was used so much in the closing drives late in the game. I looked back at K9s snaps, and I know he carried the ball 20 times, but he took only 3 snaps in the 4th Qtr, and had two rush attempts. Last being at the 10:11 mark. From that point on he never came back in the game. I haven't heard if he was hurt or just exhausted.

However, just looking at Zach's overall performance of the game I was not pleased at all Yes he did catch the wheel route for a TD, but that was break down in safety coverage by the Broncos and that was an easy pitch catch for Geno to Zach. His early runs weren't as electric as K9, and I know he is considered more of the bruising type of runner, but he hasn't shown to run over or through any defenders. His poor awareness was concerning when he was tackled for a safety, as he fell with the ball tucked into his chest and didn't fight to extend the ball past the goal line, and like c_hawkbob said, as if he wasn't aware he was in the endzone. That just can't happen, and in my opinion it's a poor effort.

As we move to the last quarter, he just doesn't the hit running lanes hard enough to get positive gains. Again, I would have felt more confident to have K9 close the game out. Maybe there had been a reason why K9 wasn't out there we will never know. I would hope as the season progresses we can get more out of Zach Charbonnet.

UPDATED** K9 reported to have taken himself out with an apparent abdominal injury during the game, but later reported he is fine.

DK Metcalf

Is the league out for DK? They called two costly penalties on DK, and in my opinion I think these are very ticky tacky. The holding call that negated a K9 TD in my opinion was very ticky tacky. If you look at the replay DK and Surtain were not even close to the play, and if Surtain wasn't blocked or touched he would not been able to fight through all those bodies to even effect the play at hand, and they were bunched up in a group with bodies all around both players, so I find it quite suspecting that the Ref was able to see the hold and flag it on that play.

His offensive PI was a simple rub route or pick play as they call it, and yes DK made contact but again they could have one either way. We had 6 penalties all together, all on the Offense, so I guess that is a good win for the Defense having zero penalties in the game.

Until we can protect the QB and create holes in the run, offense is going to be hobbled. Offensive line just isn't good right now. It's hard to do much without a decent O-line. You really have to simplify your offense because the O-line can barely hold, much less execute any complex blocking or hold for long for a play to develop.

My thoughts about our first game are much like the majority expressed in this thread.

The offense still lags. Getting nailed for two safeties in the first half is simply unacceptable. I've been watching football for over 60 years, and never have I seen the same team take two safeties in the first half of a game. Call a damn quarterback sneak and get yourself out of jail. That was probably the worst part of watching the game.

What I really liked was our tackling. The announcer mentioned the obvious, that even when the Broncos completed a pass, they were wrapped up immediately with very little yards after the catch. Same with our run defense. Like the first preseason game, our defensive guys were flying all over the place, looked like they were thoroughly enjoying themselves vs. the going through the motions as seemed to be the case under our previous regime.

The result was pretty much as I expected that we registered a solid win against a weak opponent starting a rookie at quarterback that wasn't really in question but that we didn't blow them out, either. Next Sunday will be more of a challenge as we travel 3 time zones to take on a team that wasn't expected to do well that upset a team that was expected to compete. It will be a good test for our young coaching staff.

There seems to have been a lot of bad play on Offense all around the league and it makes me wonder if the lack of playing the starters in preseason games is a big part of the reason and maybe a taste of what to expect when the preseason games are pared back even further or eventually eliminated.
It's true that the Offense is almost always behind the Defense this time of year, but it seemed exceptionally bad in all of the games I happened across - up until at least the late 2nd half where things started to work better for many teams.

I agree, and although it doesn't always work that way, you would expect offenses to start out slower than defenses due to their complexity.

Perhaps it's just my impression, but there seems to be more than the average number of rookie quarterbacks or veteran QB's with new teams.

The other thing is that they are putting an incredible amount of emphasis on offensive linemen lining up correctly on the LOS. I'm not sure why that's become such a point of emphasis as it will undoubtedly result in more QB sacks and a higher risk of injury to the star of the show.

It didn't seem very consistent across games with calling the linemen on the LoS. I can't remember which game it was, but I watched one game where the RT looked to regularly be 3 yards off the LoS - almost like the old Flanker position and yet it was emphasized in other games.
For me, it's a double edge sword. Like you said it makes the QB more vulnerable, but on the other hand players will keep pushing the limits until it's stopped and lesser talented players will be playing because they can get away with more.
