New OC next Year

Postby jshawaii22 » Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:13 am

Ryan Grubb has been released (OK, he was fired) from the Seahawks this AM. New OC, probably not an inexperienced one from college.

My take is the same from 1 year ago. Geno is Geno. We will never go any further then we have with Geno at QB. Not much out there in the draft or FA but as long as the team backs a mediocre QB as our starter, then don't expect any big change.

Look for DK to ask out and for Tyler to announce he's retiring.

I had the 'Hawks at 9 wins and of course we have the worst possible draft position, but that's our Seahawks!

Agreed about the QB position. Geno is never going to get us over the hump, but I don't see a viable alternative. There's been some rumors that we might trade for a young veteran like Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence, but at the end of the day, barring an unreasonable demand by Geno, I think we see him back in 2025.

Lockett has already announced that he's playing at least one more year although he did acknowledge that it might not be with the Hawks.

Agreed about Metcalf. His body language is quite telling that he's not fully committed, and had Grubbs returned, I would agree with you that he'd ask to be traded. The problem is that his trade value has fallen off quite a bit, and I doubt that anyone is going to make us an offer we can't refuse. He's still under contract, so my guess is that he plays out his final year with us.

As MacDonald comes from the Baltimore system and has coached under both Harbaughs, I assume that he wants a run based Offense. Grubbs Offense was mainly a passing Offense so their ideals clashed. The OL doesn't help matters when they can't open holes for the RBs - something that has plagued Seattle since Marshawn left so really Grubbs only option was to open up the pass game. It probably doesn't help the perception by MacDonald that the run game wasn't good enough when he sees his old College boss transform the Chargers Offense into a far more balanced attack. But Jim Harbaugh put a big emphasis on the OL in the off season, something the Seahawks have not done under JS.

Which makes you wonder why they hired Grubb in the first place. He was supposedly the man that Macdonald wanted as his OC, and with a good excuse to explain the offenses' struggles, a horribly inept offensive line, something else must have happened to shake Mac's confidence in him. Or was it JS who decided to pull the plug?

And the offense in general didn't struggle that badly. We were ranked 14th in the league in total yards and we did finish with a 10-7 record, which beat most expectations.

Hopefully they have a good option already on their radar. I can't imagine firing a first year OC of the 14th ranked offense without a viable replacement on the pallet.
