Beast is on the way back

Postby Stream Hawk » Thu Jul 31, 2014 12:13 pm

Per many sources:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11291 ... ng-sources

Apparently team made some financial concessions, but no new contract.

Never a doubt in my mind that he would be in prior to the first pre season game..... I understand what both sides were trying to do, and it looks as though the Hawks held all the cards. My guess would be that they simply waved the fines.

Yep.

No surprise.

Now, for those of you who said we didn't need him, let him go, let Michael step up ... you don't have to hide.

Just breathe easier and worry about something else.

.... and hey will make concessions (though not over a million, total) as well as disregarding fines.

He won't be here next year.

I knew the fines wouldn't be enforced, as long as Marshawn came to TC.

All I want to know is why couldn't they have got this done in a timely manner if all it took was shifting some money around and guaranteeing more? That was why I thought that Lynch must have been demanding a lot more than his deal called for. I thought for sure that J.S. had already tried the "easy" stuff. Oh well, Beast Mode is back in the house and as long as he is happy we will ALL be happy.

Hey, if he has as good a season as his last three I am all for adding a couple more years and keeping him in the fold through 2017.

I, for one, did think that holding out was not the wisest move for Marshawn, what with the fines and all. And I do believe that there are two capable backs waiting in the wings who might have been able to step in and TCOB if we were to never see Beast Mode in a Seattle uni again.

But that isn't the same as saying I would rather have Michael and Turbin as the starters. There is nothing in the NFL like Marshawn Lynch. He is a unique individual with a skill set at his position that nobody else possesses at all. You cannot replace Marshawn Lynch. Like Russell Wilson, there is something intangible about him. His very presence is a catalyst for great things from this team that goes beyond stats and all of the other measurables that seemingly smart sports analysts are so fond of. I am a big believer in that stuff.

Glad you're back, Beast.

This was a no brainer for Lynch really, he had literally zero leverage and was losing money in fines by the day. I can't help but wonder if he got some bad advice, or if he was just looking for some small token of appreciation from the F.O., because the holdout never made any kind of sense from the get-go.

The nice thing is, he misses training, and practices quite often (due to his back), with no ill effect...he really keeps himself in such good shape he doesn't need much in the way of training camps etc... Other players may be negatively impacted by missing time, but not the case here.

In other news, Football is just around the corner, and the Seattle Seahawks are the DEFENDING WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!
Hehe that never gets old! :D

The Deal:

Old contract $5M salary, $1.5M bonus
New deal $6M salary, $500K Bonus

So basically the converted $1M bonus to salary, meaning it's fully guaranteed in the event of injury rather than paid per game that he suits up for. They also waived fines accrued in the holdout.

No new money or cap implications for us, a little bit o something for Beast, game on.

So it was ( or at least ended up being) just moving money around, surprised if that is all it was, that it wasn't already done, way before camp started, but what ever...... time for some Beast Mode..... :)

That's pretty much what most of us thought...toss him a couple of peanuts by massaging the numbers a little bit, let him save face, and welcome him back.

One more step towards repeating.

The day this started there were talks about 'just give him Sidney's cap $$$"... 1.5m.. and they did. Good work FO. No new money, wow.

One thing for sure, we won't have a Marshawn press conference to hear him give us his opinion.
Maybe Mike Rob will enlighten us on NFL Network. It's real cool to see him transition. He'll be a good EX-player.

He probably won't play in the preseason much, if any. We'll have to wait for the Packers' to come to town and see him in real action.

This season can't start soon enough.

Hey, waii:

Two buddies helping each other.

Your comments about Robbing the Beast are more appropriate than most could appreciate.

"let's work together" ...

Two buddies helping each other ....

"exclusive from BeastMode to Real Rob on the "situation" ... at a very opportune moment as Mike Rob is still a rookie in training camp at NFL Net ... and it becomes "big news".

A week later, the Beast picks up an extra million ... at a very opportune moment.

...and RealRob jumps three spots on the depth chart at NFLNet.

So, yeah, Hawaii, it sure worked out.

I don't think this was what Lynch wanted, I think he really wanted a new deal tried to bluff his way into one but soon realized it wasn't going to happen. This is just a way for Lynch to save face.

Fair enough, doesn't matter to me much, as long as he is here, and performing at his level, I could care less what the particulars really were. Will be interesting to see next year if PC and Schneid adhere to the "it's a contract, we intend to honor it" thing. Honestly not sure how they can do that, but we'll see.....

HC, you were pretty much right. It wasn't already done, but it was already offered back in May.

Here's hoping he's all-in this year.

I don't think we need to worry whether or not Beast will be all in. Somehow I get the impression he's a go big or stay home type of guy. I don't see him playing half assed.

Good deal.

In a year where we have an excellent shot at repeating, something that hasn't been done in ten years, we need Beast to be out there. It would've been bad timing to have a new #1 RB and expect him to deliver both statistically and, equally important, game planned for. Lynch is proven. I'm also interested to see if Michael gets the #2 spot this year, and how many carries he ends up having.

I was thinking the same if he would show up or not to play but if he decides to play half a$$ or less Pete will put him in "bench" mode and he most likely will not even get picked if he would end up being cut at the end of the season. I was just thinking crazy, that we have not seen the best of Lynch yet. He may very well play his a$$ of this season for a spot here or with other team
