Of course receivers wish there was no contact, as much as they wish there was no defenders what so ever. Players like Boldin made their career on "out physicalling" defensive backs, it is his bread and butter, and the ONE thing that seperseparates him from being an "ok" receiver, without it, he wouldn't be what he was, and arguing he would, shows a fundamental lack of understanding about not only him, but the game itself.

Ok so I and everyone else are wrong. Both the O and D are goung to be effected exactly the same. That is what the NFL wants; more defense. You know the phrase, "Defense sells tickets Offense wins championchips".

Boldin (or any other possession receiver for that matter) can "outphysical" a DB using plenty of legal techniques: By shielding with their body, handfighting or outmuscling at the LOS where contact is legal, or fighting for 50/50 balls in the air. The idea that Boldin is good because he is just pushing and shoving DBs off is ridiculous. No receiver wants to rely on that dude. We don't have a corp full of WRs that have been systematically taught how to push and shove off as part of their strategy. We do not have huge 6'4 230 lb WRs capable of modeling their game after such a ridiculous strategy even if our coaching staff wanted to employ it.

I've had to have posted at least 3 or 4 times now that I don't expect the rule change to effect the Hawk D much. But, I do expect them to be called now more often for this BS. One or two calls could have a huge effect on one game or the entire season. I know it did for us with the necktie call on Ahmad Brooks' sack of Brees. That is all I am saying.

No you were wrong for arguing offensive players don't benefit from OPI. Your claim that receivers will not have to change their play ( at least ones that have made their careers by being physical like Boldin has) is so far off base as to be laughable.

Yes because of course one preseaon series V starters clearly sets it all to rest. Means absolutely nothing dude. If I am not mistaken, Seattle was THE most penalized team in the entire NFL last yr. I am sure you have some sort of rationalization for that too.

Again, for about the 6th time, I don't expect it to have much of an effect on their D. How many times should I post that. If I were on a computer I guess I could copy and paste it about 30 times to get the point across. I'd just like to see them called for it when they do do it intead of it being explained away as "physical play" or "old school football". They'll still be one of the best Ds in football, so please do not recast what I've posted as some theory that they are good because they "cheat" like the kids post on ESPN.com or NFL.com. I acknowledge that they are a very talented, disciplined and fast defense.

Again you misstated what I posted. You and Kalibane do this so often I am beginning to question what the hell you are reading. I never stated or insinuated that O players do not benefit from PI. What I stated is that the enforcement of contact rules disproportionatly favors the O OVER the D. If contact were disallowed completely, who would it favor more? The receiver, of course.

I also posted that stricter enforcement could effect Boldin. I DID post that. Do you guys even read what I post, ever?? What O team is building a strategy of acquiring huge WRs across the board to play physical downfield? Who, Chicago? Are they coaching these guys up to outmuscle their DBs 20 yds down the field? I am 200% positive that any receiver would like to avoid contact at all costs if possible. And those guys can flat out fly, and can get open or burn you without playing physical. You are denying a strategy that everyone knows Seattle is employing, from how they draft to how they coach them to how their D plays. That entire D is built upon crowding the LOS and with big, physical corners and playing extremely fast and somewhat undersized upfront. Your guys are not built to run with WRs - sorry they just aren't.

I can copy and paste for you what you posted about it "not being an intregal part of what your receivers do" or that "the receivers avoid contact and run to open space at all times" if you would like, you claim that posters like me and Bane aren't reading your posts, and I'm thinking your not remembering what you posted.

In regards to the claims abouit Seattles DB play, Seattle was NOT the most penalised team in that regard, NOR was Seattle used to teach the Refs what to look for in the NFL's 30 minute presentation on what to look for in regards to the POE rule put in place ( odd since according to your "objective" eye they did it on every play) NOR did Seattle have ANY defensive holding calls tonight ( which makes sense since they did NOT have an exorbitant amount last season) while Denver garnered five. I wonder Future how many did the Niners receive this evening? Something tells me more than 0.... Your claim are not backed up by anything but unquantifiable claims, hearsay and the Future "eye test" which is about as solid as bridge constructed with laffy taffy and feathers.

Went ahead and did some work for you. Seattle Defensive holding penalties 2013 : 17 SF defensive holding penalties : 19, also found out that SF had 14 OPI calls against them, now that seems to me at least to be an awfully high number for a team that doesn't use pushing off/physical play as a key component in their passing game, I mean, according to you, Seattle DB's hold on "every play" and yet have a mere 3. More instances of penalties, than a non physical WR core that doesn't use contact for separation, and it seems odd that a "non" grabby defense would receive MORE flags than one that always does it ( and FYI there were MULTIPLE teams with more DH calls, the highest of which was KC but closely followed by Denver, Tampa with Revis imagine that, Arizona, Philly etc) so you can either continue to insist that Seattle got "preferential treatment" or the vaunted Eye test, but none of those EXCUSES explain why Seattle wasn't seen in the Ref training video, because based on your claim, it should have ALL been Seattle.

I have been a total prick lately. I am just starting to realize it. That is not why I started posting here. I started posting because you guys are by and large very intelligent and accepting of others - even a Niner fan. The board is pretty awesome and I do not want to ruine it. I am going to work to get back to who I was when I first started posting here. It is honestly just a game and regardless of where my team is when these two meet in Seattle, I hope I can meet some of you up there. Sincerest apologies . . .

Future.

I really do hope that happens. Wouldn't mind getting rid of the jabs, and to some extent I understand it, but whether it be homerism or not, this IS a Seahawks site, populated BY Seahawks fans. Some of us are "reasonable" to an extent, but none of us will "always" be, and while I respect your right to your views, opinions and thoughts about your team, your players, life in general, or our team, city, players, opinions, thoughts etc, here isn't always the right place to express those.

Hopefully, there can be a balance and middle ground reached, not promising anything, but don't see anything wrong with finding out.

Good luck. ( and obviously I'll personally attempt to tone down my posts as well, can't speak for anyone else of course, and honestly can't even guarantee for myself at this point, but I'll give it a whirl).

Future; Way to "man up" and accept the part you played. I too will admit that I sometimes went out of my way to give you grief when I thought you were in "troll mode" rather than just contributing to the conversation.

I know I don't speak for everyone but I am glad you are here so that we can get your perspective of our Seahawks.

I find it funny that our team and by extension the fan base is so hated because until a few years ago we were universally ignored. I mean, even when Holmgren took us to the SB it was considered an anomaly. We had not yet arrived. But we have arrived now, no doubt about it. We tend to revel in our new found notoriety just as fans of teams that have a much longer history of success. I remember when it was the Stealers and their fans who were the new guys waving their Terrible Towels as if the Dolphins Horrible Hankie didn't exist! Oh how they were full of themselves, and still are. To this day they act like the Super Bowls won by Big Ben's team are so how an extension of Steeler teams of the 70's.

Well, IF the Jim Harbaugh 49ner team manages to win a WC I imagine you and your fans will treat it as if it is an extension of the Montana/Rice/Young teams and be as insufferable as we have been the last few months. Just remember, I didn't go into any 49ner or Bronco chat rooms and rub their noses in our team's success but, again, I can't speak for everybody and I am sure there were some Seahawk fans that did. I do remember you coming here and offering congratulations both after the NFC Championship game and the Super Bowl and I for one appreciated it at the time.

Good luck this season, except when your guys are playing our guys!
