nfl wants all other teams to practice a bit more than the Hawks to make it a fair season for the other teams, didn't work last year

It wasn't *more* practice the Hawks did- it was some kind of inappropriate (according the CBA) level of contact.

I guess rules are rules, but what nonsense, and hardly some kind of competitive advantage considering how small the delta between "allowed" and what they did must have been.

No biggie. We had a similar violation back in 2012.

They imply that this was started by a player(s) complaining to the union. I would like to know who the POS is and if they are still on the team.

I'll take a wild guess and say Bowie.

Based on what Clayton said today, my guess would be a WR on this team currently, and the main infraction had to do with Walters injury that sparked the Bates Sherman fight.

Who is the player's union rep? He is the one who probably filed the complaint. PFT noted that It looks like it was one or two plays that got rough, not necessarily an entire practice or a culture of cheating the system. ET landed on Walters causing a shoulder injury on a play where no contact is allowed. Next play, Sherman made 'contact' by grabbing and going around and around with Bates.

I guess it's OK to have fights at practice as long as 'contact' is allowed that day.

Pete doesn't pay attention to these little details. It's what got him, or rather, USC after he left, into trouble. We got dinged for this very same violation two years ago, so it's not as if he doesn't know what the rule is. Sometimes his inattention to detail bites him in the arse.

Now, before you start calling me a Pete Hater, As an NFL HC, I'd rather he not get bogged down in these little details, of which there are scores, and instead concentrate more on how we're going to stop Aaron Rodgers. Like I said, it's no biggie. It's like getting a parking ticket. I'm surprised it even made the news, and probably wouldn't have if the same thing happened to Jacksonville.

Yep- that seems to be confirmed here:

Yep- that seems to be confirmed here:

PFT said the NFLPA thought the entire practice was too rough:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... stigation/

"The NFLPA caught wind of the situation via TV reports of the altercation. At that point, the NFLPA asked the Seahawks to surrender the video of all offseason practices.

Inspection of the footage resulted in the union concluding that the practice was “way too aggressive,” per the source. Aggression was detected not simply on one or two plays but for the entire practice. While the penalties reportedly cover only the day of the fight evidence of excessive aggressiveness was spotted over multiple days of the minicamp.

“Coaches were coaching contact,” the source said. And the NFL apparently agreed, given that the league ultimately imposed unprecedented fines for something that happens in plenty of offseason practices. But apparently not to this extent."

As sources go, I'll take ESPN over PFT, bur whether it was for a couple plays or the whole practice it looks to me like it was TV coverage that ultimately got us the fine.

Welcome to life under a microscope. Win the big one and people pay attention.

It's possible the NFLPA requests the tapes of all practices where fights are noted.
I think it's Buffalo that's had more than one and the Cowboys got into it earlier this year, too.
They might not have been the early minicamp, though so contact was probably permitted.

Yep. When their damning criticism is this weak sauce:

Inspection of the footage resulted in the union concluding that the practice was “way too aggressive,” per the source.

You know they're looking for something to b*tch about (but yeah, to be fair, they may be looking for something to b*tch about with all teams).

Pathetic, but who cares. This team has $300K in the cushions of the couch in the VMAC lobby.

LOL, "way to aggressive" is simply not a term I would have thought being used ever, growing up playing the sport.....what's next? Fines for hitting to hard? Running to fast? Throwing to far or fast? LOL.... NFL *sigh*

The report I saw originally said that the NFL wanted to look at the tapes of the practice in question because a player had complained to the Players Union. I am glad that that wasn't the case at all, that it was the league that took it upon itself to look at the tape after the all of the hoopla in the press because of the scuffles that included Sherman in one and E.T. in another.

Turns out, there was no illegal hitting, just the ultra competiveness our team is known for.
