The deck is stacked against him coming back from a hip injury, but not impossible. the JS and PC connection has worked if you look at our record. And to me that is the key factor.

Sure we could talk about the offense and how it's not yet at 100 percent(injury notwithstanding). But with a 2nd year qb,
PC and JS have lost millions on the Flynn deal(arguably break even with RW's excellent play in terms of equity and money).
And I won't go into much more detail because we have discussed them ad nauseum.
Even with the millions lost due to busts, injuries, or potential busts i.e. Carpenter, I see this team on the plus side as all of us on here should.

We will beat the Rams. They have nothing to play for. I predict in the 3rd quarter they will show us the white flag.
Not a gimme, but we HAVE to win this game. its not something that our offense can not show up to.

The Rams won't be feeling any pressure to win, but that doesn't mean they don't have anything to play for. We've all seen teams that were out of the playoffs with seemingly nothing to play for rally to beat a playoff bound foe. They are a division rival and there's been a lot of bad blood between these two teams (remember Tate's bye bye waive?). This is going to be a supreme challenge for us. There's plenty of blood in the water left over from the Cards game that will activate the Ram's sense that we are beatable at home.

But I do expect us to win. I don't see Russell laying two eggs in a row. The 12th man will be in full throat. The defense will be flying around. Bevel will pull out all the stops. There will be no holding back. One way or another, it will be a defining game for our team. If we win, our chances of going to the SB are well over 50%. If we lose, I wouldn't give us a 10% chance of going. You don't find many regular season games the result of which would put us on two such distinctly different paths.

RD was that bye bye wave against the Rams? If not why would they be affected? I don't remember Tate's wave being against the Rams. But maybe it was. That being said, I think teams during their last game can play loosey goosey, they have nothing to lose and dial stuff up that they never tried all season.
For sure there is no way that the Rams will just lay down and give us the game. We are going to have to take it from them. I think they will. I think we will be finally focused this weekend and come out with all cylinders firing.

Tate's bye bye was indeed against the Rams.

They also would like nothing better to finish 8-8 vs. 7-9.

As Clem stated, Tate's bye bye was against the Rams, on MNF no less. The Ram's defense has been noted by many Hawks as the most notorious trash talking group of players in the league. There is no love lost between the two teams. Don't be surprised to see more than your average personal fouls and after the whistle fights this Sunday.

Yup I have to agree this game is going to have a lot of extra curricular activities, I just hope our guys are smart about it, we cannot afford dumb drive ending on offense or drive maintaining on defense penalties.

O we will get called for them, count on it. The team with the best record in the league playing at home will get NO respect from the officials. They will need their A game or they will lose.

Hawkwow,

Steady...Childress was the one with warts, harvin was the punk. It was clear to all the negative impact Moss was having on Harvin. So Childress dumped Moss. Nothing punkish about unloading the cancer "I play when I want to play" Randy Moss. But let's say you're right and Childres was a punk. How does that explain the exact same scenario with Leslie Frazier? Frazier is more Dungy than Dungy...a gentleman and far from a punk. Urban Meyer was a punk. He covered drug tests for Harvin (etc.) and when Harvin threw Gonzales to the ground by his throat, in front of the world, Meyer failed to discipline Harvin...and here we are today.

Another thing people use in defending Harvin is "He hated Ponder because Ponder was a poor QB". So what? Great players do their all to make their QB better. They don't throw tantrums and demand trades. It's not Harvin's place to hate. He was under contract and just needed to STFU and do his job....not a chance. "Harvin hated Ponder", even though Ponder positioned Harvin for an MVP run, because Ponder called him out on his selfish attitude and refused to cave in to Harvin's every demand.

I can't recall many players in my long history with this sport that have been more disruptive, and did more damage, than this punk has...and all before his 25th birthday. I hope we rid ourselves of him and he never again plays a down in the NFL. He is bad for the brand and I wouldn't wish him on anyone (other than SF).

Childress was involved with the Hutch deal, so I'll always view him as a punk. :)

I'm not in anyway going to argue that Harvin hasn't been an idiot. He called out his QB and it was completely unprofessional. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I highly doubt he's purposefully trying to get out of playing in the NFL. I honestly cannot see Pete Carroll AND John Schnieder AND Darrell Bevell all being blind to this type of behavior or willing to risk not only draft position but a heavy hit on the cap as well.

I will be the first to apologize if I'm wrong, but I just cannot believe three of our top guys got duped. I really think something has just gone wrong with the hip and Carroll is praying that he may play again this year. Until more info comes out, I just can't believe otherwise. Isn't this type of surgery typically season ending anyway?

You know HawkWow the more I read your posts the more I am being turned to your side of the issue. (The dark side)? ;)

But here is my take re one possible scenario. Harvin snowed everyone, got his contract, elected to have the hip surgery against PC's wishes, and tried to come back. He feigned being well enough only for the REVENGE game against the Vikings where he played well given his few touches. Then got hurt(rightly or wrongly), maybe he started screaming more and more loudly, and finally PC caught wind of the fact that rightly or wrongly, maybe just maybe PC got played. Now the guy will soon be on IR. PC is done with this guy. He will not be playing with us during the playoffs. The most compelling thing I read from you was how Moss "I play when I want to play", may have influenced him, and how he didn't get along with Ponder. This tells me alot about his mindset. Sure he is an unbelievable WR. Not sure if this story is over. For his family name and his legacy, Harvin SHOULD feel the need to redeem himself next season. Guys like him remind me of Curry(Ruskell not JS) and Jamarcus Russell who had 30 plus million GUARANTEED and who were both busts.
It's reasonable to think that under my scenario Bevell was fooled as well. You tend to look at his talent, and not at something that is represented to you as being able to be healed via physical therapy(hip). Now this is just a hypothesis, I don't necessarily believe what I just said, it's simply a possible scenario as to what has happened this season with Harvin. I hope that in fact I am wrong.

Bevell was with Harvin from 2009 until 2011. He saw the worst of him.
Either he is a bad judge of character or he has little influence in the personnel decisions.

I'm not quite ready to go that far, at least not yet. I don't think Pete, John, and Bevell can all be gullible enough to have been taken in with this guy to such a degree that they'd part with $25M in guaranteed money and the draft choices we gave up.

But nevertheless, North Hawk's scenario is plausible. If something like this does turn out to be the explanation of the mystery surrounding this guy, it's going to be a bitter pill for a lot of good folks to swallow. I'd estimate that 90% of the 12th man'ers have bought completely into Harvin and believe that his motivations are as pure as the wind driven snow.

Ok, thanks Clem and RD. Damn, memory is fading, that is not a good thing for a guy my age, I didn't realize that the bye bye wave was against the Rams. Oh boy. I could see them making the entire game about him. They'd say in the huddle on the sidelines before the game, "That MF Tate he dissed us! IN OUR HOUSE! You gonna allow that BS? H no lets go out there and show him what we do to people like him!!! We gonna take that ball from him and shove it up.....we gonna let him know what RAM POWER is".

Another reason for them to play hard against us.

You know what? That's okay, We should still take care of business.
Its just gonna require more personal in your face stuff. And yes, more PF's.

Am I going crazy here but did PC say during his Friday Presser that Harvin was NOT going to be moved from the roster?

If so this is huge. And means that we MIGHT see him during the playoffs. Or maybe it means they are doing some other move that I know nothing about. These guys play chess very well.

Very interesting comment by PC. Why are we not moving him from the roster now? Even with Tate coming back, who is going to have to leave for Tate?

You mean a different player that starts with a 'T' is coming back. Thurmond returns from his 4 game suspension.

I didn't hear PC this morning, but I wouldn't get too excited if he's leaving Harvin on the roster. All it means is that Pete is keeping his options open in the event PH's status gets upgraded. Pete's continued uncertainty is one of the mysteries surrounding PH.

There will absolutely be no need for apology if you're correct bro. I want that badly and apologize for taking this into the "darkside", as RD suggests. ; )
I'll be the first to admit I have let this Harvin issue consume me. But it's not all my fault. I always knew he was a punk, but wanting a winner, I did my best to put that out of my mind. But doing sports radio, for a very long time, I had compiled many resources, fans of virtually every team. I have been victimized by the calm of Vike fans, unanimously happy with Harvin's departure. I still see these people on a regular basis and how I wish just once one would say "told you so" while LOL. But they don't. Instead, they knowingly shake their heads and genuinely feel bad for the Hawks...me in particular. That's what makes this so miserable.

I too have a hard time believing Pete, John and Bevell were duped by Harvin, but unable to predict the future, we can only draw from the past...and if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it's likely Harvin again ducking out of commitments / obligations. But I do sincerely hope I'm wrong. And so does Pete and John. It has to be tough sledding every time they are forced to discuss the issue with Mr. Allen.

IMO Pete is using the advance warning about injured reserve as a last ditch ploy to motivate Harvin. When you read PCs statements over the weeks and hear things like "no structural damage" and increasingly terse and abrupt statements like "I have no Idea when he might play" Its clear they think he should be playing and are furious yet helpless. Im going to put it out there. PC and JS got took to the cleaners. The guy is a bum and a cancer. He should be released as soon as possible, regardless of money owed. And please no more deals with Minnesota.

Dayum..I had to look twice to make sure I didn't write that. I felt this way the minute Pete said our docs cleared him to play and that Harvin could wait to have the surgery in the off-season. Coaches don't say such things without motive. The second those words came out of Pete's mouth, I knew we had a very real problem and we too were about to be Harvin'd.

And as you stated, all this talk of "no structural damage" etc, is Pete doing 1 of two things and more likely, both: 1) He's putting Harvin on the spot 2) he's letting us know this blame shouldn't fall on him (for bringing in a player with a history of injury). I do feel bad for Pete...but shouldn't. In fact, I will go so far as to call Pete arrogant for thinking his rah rah nature would do better with Harvin than the coaches before him.

If anyone has a recording of the game Harvin was hurt vs. the Hawks (last year)...watch it and tell me what you think Harvin and Pete may be conversing about during the pre-game warm-ups. Wish I had that clip..and a lip reader. I have a feeling the deal was already in the works way back then. The fact Harvin, just minutes later, went apesh*t on Frazier, apparently didn't matter. I'm speculating...but there was a deep discussion between the 2 with Harvin doing a lot of head shaking and grinning from ear to ear.

Interesting Update on the Percy Harvin Situation:

Corry passed along that Harvin's deal is injury guaranteed for 2014. That means that if he was injured at the end of this league year (6 days after the Super Bowl), his $11M base salary for 2014 becomes guaranteed. A number of different media sources reported this week that the Seahawks would not put Harvin on IR because it would guarantee his 2014 contract. This is what they were referring to.

When Seattle cut Perrish Cox yesterday instead of putting Harvin on IR, this would appear to be the reason. It likely has nothing to do with leaving open the chance for Harvin to return this season. Pete Carroll has grown increasingly terse with his responses to Harvin questions, and this could be part of the reason. The coach likely is ready to turn the page and use Harvin's roster spot, but the front office may be insisting that the Seahawks keep their options open.

In literal terms, this means Seattle could choose to cut Harvin after the Super Bowl and recoup his 2014 salary. They would still owe the pro-rated portion of his signing bonus, which would count as dead money against the cap.

If the thesis is true - that the Hawks can cut Percy after the Superbowl and not have to pay his 2014 salary - then it means only one thing:

This week is Percy's last chance - If he sends over another message that he cannot play again then Percy has played his final game with the Hawks.

Pete will cut his you know what after the season is over.

Gosh, I point out that option in other forums and I get waylaid. I'm glad we can discuss it here without all the hater accusations.

I don't necessarily think that's what's going to happen, but if we have decided that Harvin has a chronic problem with his hip or if he isn't 'in', the best time to cut bait would be before 2/7.

Here's a breakdown of his salary. I still do not buy any of this thought process unless his hip injury looks to be career impacting.

If they cut him after the SB it looks like we would owe 9,600,000 or 7,200,000. That of course would be divided by two years, so between 3.6 - 4.8 Mil dead money cap hit for a couple of years. What's worse is losing the 3 picks. I still think this is insane speculation personally.

Speculation or not, it's still a viable possibility. It's anybody's guess what PC and JS know about Harvin or what they plan on doing or not doing. Pete's been uncharacteristically mum and increasingly uncomfortable when the subject is broached, and we all know how positive and over the top Pete can be when describing his players. He throws out superlatives like he's handing out Halloween candy, so it does add to the mystery.

It would seem something is going on behind the scenes.
Either like other posters have said Pete is being coy or Harvin has been a real disappointment to him.

I get the feeling it's the latter. They took a risk and missed. Moving on, sounds like.

Seattle Based Journalists really need to grow a pair.

Fast forward to Pete's Comments on Harvin starting around 8:20

Pete says that the Harvin Situation is a "Personal Thing" (what the h@ll does that mean)?

http://mynorthwest.com/292/2423805/Carr ... ere-tested

Notice the "Reporter" first apologizes for asking the question then does not even ask a single followup questions - what a wimp.

What doesn't the "Reporter" ask Pete some followup questions like "What Exactly is wrong with Percy? What is the exact diagnosis of Percy's current condition? Is this diagnosis coming from the Seahawk's Staff and Team Physicians or from Percy's physicians? Does Pete think that Percy should be back with the team now since everything that they all have worked for is at stake now? Is Percy attaending any of the teams meetings and games and if not why? For $11 Million he could show up on Sundays to give support to his team? I see Kobe Bryant in street clothes on the Lakers bench.......

Pete just said Harvin is going to practice w/ the intention of playing.

My .02; Percy came back...had a me-centric tude...he got checked by Pete and I bet he's seeing a therapist. Pete's (just a whackyassguess) tells him he loves him and wants to help him be the best he can be, but he has to get right upstairs before he can return. You heard it here 1st.

So if he gets hurt in the next game is his 2014 salary still guaranteed? I'm a little fuzzy on this.

Yes - Seahawks Twitter account is confirming that Percy will be in on Thursday.

Pete just announced this 30 minutes ago.

A lot has changed since Pete's earlier comments in the link above made 4 hours ago when he did not have a clue about Harvins current situation or future attendance.

Score one for the peanut gallery and the court of public opinion.

Haha...I was just about to post this info...I was late having spent the morning tormenting 9er fans...so sweet!

OK....just being honest, I don't want him to succeed. I want him to fail so I can say "told you so". that's all that matters to me. Screw the Lombardi!!!! : ) LOL.

In all seriousness, there is nothing that I'd rather do than eat crow, served up by Percy Harvin. I don't like Harvin the person (at all) but the player, I have coveted since his availability in the draft.

I will also admit, and have done so before, that I am the worst kind of hypocrite. I maintain Harvin does not deserve the riches nor the attention, but his first TD will send me through the ceiling. There's 53 guys on this team, to think it necessary to like each and every one of them, as humans, would be naïve and more so, unnecessary. I will never buy his jersey, I will never be proud he's a Hawk (cuz we rewarded him for being a malcontent) but I will stand and applaud him every time (if) he makes a play. I'm a hypocrite because my team has never hoisted the Lombardi and I want that for me, for you, for 12s around the world and foremost, the other 52 players on this very deserving team (and staff).

Go Percy!

A little gamesmanship I am sure, but was it holding him out and implying he may go on the IR or is it implying he may play when he knows he isnt?

Buddy just sent me a Harvin tweet that he assumed Harvin meant for me: LOL.

" and to all the haters who tried to kick when I was down cant express how much fuel u added to my fire...." ~ Percy Harvin

Hmmm, with that.. maybe Harvin is ready to go (!?).

OTOH, "haters" "express" and "added" are all two syllable words. Makes me think someone else wrote that. ; )

You know, maybe Wilson may rub off on the guy. We'll see soon enough, especially if he busts out the line "Separation is in the Preparation" in one of his future Presser's.

Fantastic news! If all he can do is return kickoffs or act as a decoy and take some pressure off the other WR's it will be worth it, at least at this point. We really need a break away receiver to loosen up things for Tate and Baldwin.

This ought to scare the crap out of who ever our opponent is going to be.

But Russell looks like he's been getting some "paralysis thru analysis" as of late.

Not really, but it was fun to say.

Agreed, he demands respect as a receiver. Which means we can utilize him as a decoy or a real deal if needed. Opponents are not going to be happy at this news.
