I still say OT is unnecessary for regular season games.

I lean more toward this situation the more this happens.

Today the Saints scored a TD on their first possession in OT and beat TB. Have not heard an scowling yet from sportscasters.

I personally, still do not like it. Houston and Dallas both got shots in this one, as a whole team, on both sides of the ball. I was cool with that.

Yep, because the "golden goose" won, so now it's "fair" again, you won't hear it from the national media, and more than likely you won't hear from Tampa Bay writers, or fans either. This was PFingManning, so he deserves "special" rules don't ya know? Mike Glennon is who exactly? Certainly not Brees, much less Peyton F-ing Manning. There won't be a peep.

Lots more of that coming for the Cards, wouldn't be in the least surprised to see them drop 4 of the next 6.Smoke and mirrors people, smoke and mirrors. ( especially if the third string rookie has to start for any amount of time).

Yea - losing Calais Campbell and Stanton (funny as it sounds for the latter) is certainly going to hurt.

We'll see what (rookie) QB Logan Thomas does. He at least had one good play vs Denver when he stepped in.

Anyone else notice all those columns and talking heads on the TV and Radio lamenting the fact that Mike Glennon never got a chance to touch the ball in overtime?

Yeah me neither.

You all may well be right. Although I don't care to resorting to a belief that there are "special rules" for "special people", there probably won't be much of a dust up over this overtime game.

Still, I believe that this rule needs to be stress tested. A Super Bowl overtime decided on a single possession touchdown no matter the combatants would surely refocus the debate.

It was a fun debate in this forum; but as is often the case, little ground was given and few minds were changed. No matter, keep fighting the good fight.

Yes but, if it had been TB that scored a TD and denied the sainted Brees the opportunity to get on the field the national sportscasters would have started the so called controversy all over again.

Nothing wrong with the OT rule, just a few cry baby superstars who want the rules bent in their favor. Remember, the NFL is in the entertainment business and not the sports business. That's the way it was always explained why certain players in the NBA get to double dribble, travel, palm the ball, up and down etc... with impunity.

And, YES, the NFL does manipulate games through the officials or certain officials.

I agree that the light shines more brightly on certain stars. Rodgers losing the so called fail Mary game brought more ire from fans & pundits than would have been generated had the same play gone the other way. I really believe that there would have been an enormous screeching about: 1) OPI is EFFIN NEVER CALLED ON A LAST PLAY HAIL MARY....like effing ever, & 2) tie goes to the O; the battle took place in the air and when feet hit, Tate had the ball. Whether or not it's true...if Rodgers threw that last ball, the national script would have been different. Make no mistake.

That said, I see the point about a Super Bowl OT. The rules would create a maelstrom indeed. A bigger one depending on the loser is the point.
