Whoopin...

Postby Hawktawk » Sun Oct 12, 2014 4:50 pm

I sat through the home loss to AZ last Dec 22nd. The Hawks picked off Palmer 4 times. It felt like it was gonna be a win.

Watching today on the tube I saw Seattle get handled on both sides of the ball at home. I hope its an aberration. But I have a feeling if Seattle gets in the tournament they may see those guys again so they better figure some things out.....

This is the right time of year to take your lumps and learn from them...provided, of course, that the Hawks do learn from them and correct them. Because you're right: today was a whoopin', and the pass rush and OL play in particular need to fix some things if this team is going to repeat.

This isn't the same team that trashed Denver in the Super Bowl. It just isn't. A whole different feel. Both sides of the ball. I haven't been this disappointed in a performance of ours in over two years. The game wasn't as close as the score would indicate. Dallas was the better team. At this rate, we won't make the playoffs, let alone repeat.

Play calling sucked. Three straight 3rd down plays in the second half and our biggest offensive threat is standing on the sidelines. Beast gets two carries in the first half. Every team in the league is sitting on those bubble screens and fly sweeps but we keep running them. Defense that can't get pressure on the QB.

No more excuses. It wasn't the refs, it wasn't the heat, and it wasn't the man in the moon that beat us. Right now, we're a very average team. I would rank 12 teams ahead of us in a power ranking.

Pick your poison.

Defensively, we are generating next to no pass rush. We're not getting enough pressure up front, so the LOB becomes a moot point if a QB has 4-6 seconds to throw the ball. Seattle D has 10 sacks for the season right now (though, amazingly, we have only given up 8).

Cowboys were 10/17 on 3rd down, many being third and long, including a killer conversion on 3rd and 20. That was the play of the game, IMO. Force them to punt there, and we get the ball back with 4:00 min left and a 3 pt lead.

DL got blown up today as well. This was similar to the Charger loss in that regard.

Offensively - hard to get into a rhythm when you only have the ball 22 minutes. It was a poorly called game by Bevell when we did have it.

That said, I do have to tip my hat to the Cowboys. They actually showed some resolve by hanging in there and overcoming and early 10 pt deficit, along with overcoming two consecutive series that saw inexplicable turnovers. I don't know how they'll finish - Dallas is still plenty capable of blowing this season - but they are playing much better than expected.

As for us, next two are on the road. Rams next week, then Carolina after. Each are winnable games, despite how some may feel in here right now. Maybe the road will actually help in getting these guys to focus harder. But the season is far from over. Lots more football to play.

Hang in there.

Go Hawks!

No it was better and worse. SD threw on us a lot better than Dallas, but Dallas is a much more balanced FB team. We got to be champs by scratching and clawing they need to get back to that. Dallas was the better team today and they only lost to the 9ers, the good news this the last time we face them till the POffs. The bad news today is their dominance was worse than the scoreboard showed.

That Dallas defense was on of the worst in the league. Absolutely no pressure up front. No attempt to establish a running game. Extremely poor utilization of the most explosive player in the league. If I see one more bubble screen, I'm gonna puke. This game should have been no contest. It was the worst effort by a Pete Carroll coached team since that loss a few years back in Cleveland, perhaps worse as it happened in our own house. I can't see us beating the Rams or the Panthers unless we have a Come to Jesus event this week. This is not a playoff team we're looking at, and I'm not speaking of the Cowboys.

Sorry to be such a downer, but that game really sucked big time. The game wasn't as close as the score would indicate. Lucky for us that we got a couple of key turnovers, something that hasn't happened much this season, or else it would have been much worse. That stat line isn't ugly, it's Yougly.
