I think they are willing to make such a move is because they have the freedom to do so.
There isn't much of anybody above PC/JS who could meddle or block the move. Credit for that goes to Paul Allen for letting the Football minds do their Football thing and realizing mistakes with people will be made.
It's not as if they are going way over the Cap with the owners money - and with the new CBA there are minimum spending thresholds.
The letting go of their Egos for the benefit of the team is impressive, though.[/quote]

Good post, North, and I said when we made the deal that I credited Pete for having the balls to make such a stunning trade. You don't get to the top by being complacent or always following conventional wisdom. I only wished that it hadn't been with this guy.

But as much as we can credit Pete and JS for the "letting go of their egos" in ditching Harvin, we have to hold their egos responsible for thinking that they could do what others couldn't do, ie tame the savage beast in Percy Harvin. They were a day late and a dollar short in coming to their senses.

But it's their confidence in themselves that that permits them to take chances and hit the Home Runs. This time they struck out. Maybe next time they won't.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

No NFL team's leadership can meet a standard of being error proof. In baseball if you hit 3 out of 10, you are an all star. PC and JS are achieving a very high standard in evaluating and acquiring team oriented, winning talent. Anyone can point to their mistakes, but it is the body of work manifested in the overall result that matters. If you bridle their willingness to go out on the occasional limb, then you forgo the many gems they have gathered into this team. Consider the big picture or find what fulfillment you can in nit picking a successful process.

Discern what you may from the link. This season might get late, early. I'm tired of the shots at the 7-9 playoff team; that was four years ago, would the haters simply preferred if that team politely declined the playoff berth?

The Saints are the only team that should feel any shame about that playoff. The Beastquake run alone should silence any question of playoff worthiness.

I would add the other teams in our division, its not our fault that we were the shiniest turd in the toilet that year. When that is discussed it should be in regards to those other teams allowing us to make the playoffs with a 7-9 record. I mean we did our part, to beat us into the playoffs a team would have needed 8 wins.

I always sort of laugh at these playoff percentages. Things in the NFL are so fluid that those change weekly. I wonder what the odds of the Packers making the playoffs were when they were 1-2, now look at them. It is true we have started to dig ourselves a little bit of a hole, but nothing we can't get out of. I will start worrying about making the playoffs at loss number 5 or 6, not after only 3.
