It is Time to Call out Coach quinn

I am no Pro football coach - But I do know from life and management that in managing a group of individuals towards achieving a goal I first am aware of what is each persons (and therefore the group) strengths & weaknesses.

Then like all good leaders I maximize the strengths of the group while minimizing the weaknesses when developing strategy and tactics for achieving our goals.

For the past few games the Seahawks have been playing defense with backups and former practice squad players all across the secondary - However we still have excellent strength along the front 7.

In today's game thread - I posted the following:

Hello My Name is Dan Quinn - I have a secondary that is completely decimated - we are playing guys there who were on practice squad last year.

Yet up front I have solid strength for pass rushing across the line. Furthermore I have good linebackers who can blitz effectively.

So given these circumstances why whenever there are 2nd or 3rd and long I am not using my strength areas (up front) by blitzing 5 & 6 players and instead choose to rush only 4 and let the QB have all day to face off against the weakest part of my defense now?

There are no excuses for how badly our defensive game play calling has been ever since the San Diego game.

I don't know what I am missing out on when I conclude that Quinn is just getting his rear end handed to him every game by the opposing offensive coordinator.

Why is Dan Quinn so reluctant on 2nd and 3rd and long to use his strength by attacking the QB on pass plays by sending a 5th or 6th player so that our weakness - the decimated secondary - does not have to cover receivers for so long?

His failure or 3rd and 17 to send a 5th player to rush Romo cost us the Dallas game. His Failure to send a 5th player on 2nd and 10 on the Arizona 9 allowed the QB time to scramble around and make a 7 yard completion that set up the fake punt. On both of those plays our 4 man rush almost effectively got a sack - however the QB escape and made the plays. With a 5th pass rusher, there would have been no place to run and both those games in my opinion would have been Seahawk victories.

Time and again we cannot get off the field on 3rd down ..... especially 3rd and long because quinn fails to maximize his strength - by sending a 5th player..... instead he allows all these QB's time to pick apart our former practice squad players that are currently in our secondary.

This poor use of his resources has cost us games and is in-excusable. Our inability to get off the field on 3rd down comes primarily down to poor utilization of our players and that is the coaching staff accountability.

And let's not forget how slow the hawks have been to react defensively to the underneath pass play that has been so successful in the past 4 games - today Austin got the majority of - -- - are you kidding - - - - 18-21 pass completion on the underneath routes.

The team and fans have paid a serious price so far this year for the obvious failure of Coordinator quinn to properly use his resources.

That’s how important not affecting the quarterback has been this season compared to last for the Seahawks.

And that’s why Carroll said today the Seahawks are changing the way they conduct their pass rush.

“Our rotations aren’t like they were a year ago. And we’re going to try to make that work in the favor of the guys rushing the passer the best we can,” is how Carroll put it today.<<<<<<<<<<<<

I don't think there is much of a mystery as to why the pass rush isn't getting there this year.
Bennett and Avril both have vastly increased number of snaps, both are less fresh, because of the losses of Clemons, Bryant and (even more IMO) McDonald.
Clearly in terms of overall depth on the line, we're not as well off as last season, and we're now getting no push from inside, where last season Clinton was collapsing the pocket.
Add to that the fact that the secondary is banged up, and not giving some of the coverage sacks we got last year. Throw in too the fact that we've played a BRUTAL schedule so far, against some of the best QB's the game has to offer.
Personally, I think it's more a personnel issue at the moment.
Which BTW is actually worse...coaching mistakes can be corrected, but short of a trade, not much can be done about personnel shortcomings/depth.

Exactly, not only that guy, last year we were able to bring pressure across the entire front, not just from one or two guys.

Is it Quinn calling the schemes or is it PC telling quinn what schemes to call? Either way, it isn't working. Time to get creative. Stunts, blitzes, personnel rotations.

Carroll addressed the lack of pass rush in his presser this week, and strongly hinted at a philosophical change. He said that we've been trying to do what we did last season, rushing four, and that he would be looking at doing some other things.
Coach speak for, we need to blitz extra defenders more often because our four down linemen aren't getting to the QB.

U saved me some typing. Not to mention Tate who is absolutely blowing up in Detroit as I predicted and was also a feared punt returner. Screwed the pooch big time and the horse may be dead but rigor mortis hasn't set in yet. Its a fresh wound....
