Pretty good writing Monkey you pretty much summed it up there but I am afraid that the reward will go to someone like jason garret for finally having a winning record or chip kelly for having his team being contenders for the second year in a row, that's the curse of being a west coast nfl team, but hey maybe it changes when the Hawks take the division back and people notice

Carroll will suffer from the same affliction as Russell Wilson; having too much talent around him.
"Best D, best RB." They will say. In Pete Carroll's case they will also say great QB, not even batting an eye at the faulty logic that diminishes RW because of his defense and running back while using him as an example of the greatness of Carroll's roster.
Never mind that part of the reason these guys are so great could be because of coach Carroll. If Carroll didn't win COY last year or in 2012 he wont win it this year.
And that Schneider has never been executive of the year? What a joke.
No, if you want to win a post season award in Seattle you have to make it impossible for them to dismiss you like SA's MVP season or Kennedy's DPOY.

Well done, Monkey. This is the long version of your point in the other thread. There I took some time to agree with you. The Pagano Cancer thing made him and BA fan favorites, that NE coach (I can't stand the dude but applaud his genius and thievery) seems to get lots of love, and there is always a dude or two who just seem to get the love. All of your points are true. It would be interesting to have a list of Coach and GM of the year in each of the last 10 years and compared their wins in subsequent years to Pete's. I really thought he should have been strongly considered in 2012 along with John and last year they were, IMHO, slam dunks.

Good job Monkey. Despite the homer p.o.v., your statements were well laid out & backed up with reasonable facts. If the Seahawks win it all this year, I see no reason why PC shouldn't be justly awarded the C.O.Y. award, although I'm not sure when the award is handed out. Whether it's done after the regular season, or after the Super Bowl. I've always had a desire to be a writer, & I admire your work in this blog, & this forum as well. I've learned so much about our team from you here on the shack. I'm a fan of the Monkeyman!!

Just thinking about coach of the year and in particular the seemingly general consensus that Arians deserves the award.
The number one reason Arians backers cite is what he has done with back up quarterbacks, but if you look at it since Palmer went down they have been mediocre at best.
8-1 with Palmer
3-3 with back-ups, and with Logan Thomas at QB I expect that to be 3-4.

Now I am not saying that he has not done a good job, but it is not like he's been pulling rabbits out of his hat since Palmer went down. On a good team you should expect to play .500 ball with your back up.

I can think of 3 candidates more worthy than Arians: Carroll, Belichek, Garrett.

Coaching isn't about just about who has the most impressive record. Pete Carroll is the closest #2 but here is why Arians is the right choice and why Garrett and Belichek are absolutely wrong:

1. The Patriots were completely suspect until Gronk got back AND was close to 100% as soon as that happened the Patriots took off. He's so important to their offense it's ridiculous. He actually deserves some mention in the MVP discussion to be honest.

2. Garrett is just a plain joke. The Cowboys improved because the front office took control away from Garrett. Rod Marineli did the coaching job of the year by making that defense look adequate with also rans like Rolondo McClaim. Scott Linehan assumed the play calling and pulled a 180 on the offensive philosophy. Garrett gets credit for not creating dissension over what amounted to a demotion but it wasn't his coaching that was on display this year. And he wasn't even responsible for hiring Linehan or Marineli.

3. Arians didn't lose just QBs. They had so many injuries and pre-season losses (especially on defense) by about week 6 I was completely mystified how they were winning any games. This should be a 6-10 team based on who they've lost. The fact that they won 11 is astounding.

I think Carroll should have won last year, and he's been great again but what Arians has done in Arizona this year, keeping that team together with scotch tape, it would be kind of a crime if he didn't get it.

The last thing anyone can call me is a homer or a Pete Carroll jock sniffer, but from the perspective of a random fan that has no connections to the locker room or anything that would qualify him as having some sort of unique, intimate knowledge of the workings of NFL locker rooms, it seems pretty obvious that Pete is the obvious choice for COY. IMO this year is a better job than last year based on the fact that repeating or even getting HFA in the season succeeding a SB win is extremely rare in this day and age of free agency and parity. Even though the whole frigging mess was self inflicted, the recovery after the Harvin debacle was extraordinary and worthy of the highest praise.
