DangerRuss' "new" agent

Postby c_hawkbob » Thu Dec 18, 2014 12:35 pm

Rogers (Russ' new 'football' agent) may well be the guy responsible for him ever becoming a Seahawk. There is trust and familiarity there, I don't think this is a bad sign or anything.

Russell Wilson was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the fourth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Rule 4 Draft. Rodgers served as his advisor throughout the pre-draft process and signing period, and assisted Wilson with negotiating a $200,000 signing bonus. Wilson was a struggling second baseman in the Rockies’ farm system, referred to as “a work in progress on the diamond, where he has limited experience.” Wilson and Rodgers determined it would be best for the hybrid athlete to return to the football field (he had formerly been a quarterback at NC State), and Wilson embarked on a journey to fight for the starting spot at the University of Wisconsin.

“He’s just a 22-year-old kid who wants to keep his options open,” Rodgers said at the time. ”The Rockies haven’t closed the door on him coming back. And Russell has not closed the door.” Rodgers told his client that baseball would always be an option for him, but that the window to show off his skill in football would close quickly if he chose not to immediately pursue that route. The agent says it is the single best piece of advice he has ever given Wilson.

Ive heard the take that this move away from Bus Cook signals that Wilson has no intention of giving a hometown discount or accepting one of those 120 million dollar deals that are really about 35 or 40 guaranteed ala Sackorpick.

But I'm cool with it. RW lays it out there on the field every week and is one of the best in then league. He deserves some security and rewards.

I'm not sure it means much of anything regarding his stay with Seattle.
Maybe Russ is going to set out what he wants to the Seahawks and then his NEW agent will look at the offered contract language to ensure it's all on the up and up.
Perhaps this new agent will now move into the Football side to add to Baseball.
I suppose contracts are much the same, but there probably some nuances in Football that are different than in Baseball, and the Football CBA enters into the picture as well.

I agree with this. I don't think it means anything other than the fact that he probably wants to streamline his representation and possibly reward his first agent, who he is pretty close to. I also don't think this has any barring on whether he might accept a 'hometown discount' or not. He deserves what he gets either way.

I agree, no point in trying to read anything into this, we have no idea what prompted this or why.

First his wife and now his agent. What does this all mean? Who knows, but speculation is a waste of time. We have him, at a minimum, for 16 more months.

If it should come to it, what are the rules for the Franchise tag?

LOL as I said in another thread, if they franchise Rw he will hold out, there is no sense taking any risk with this horrible oline. He will hold out, come in when they promise not to use the tag, and then be gone or get what he wants. Heck the hold out might happen if they do not come to an agreement this off season, to ensure the tag is off the table.

All that said this change in agent proves and shows nothing.

Whether it's this guy or his old agent Cook, there is gonna be no such thing as a "hometown discount", especially when you won the town their 1st Lombardi trophy.

The term "home town discount" is a misnomer. RW's not from here or the Northwest. We're not talking 'bout Lebron James.

I have confidence The deal will get done and get done at the going rate for a 3rd year 2 x Super Bowl winning QB... About what Cutler makes, I would assume.

Not that it says anything about how big the contract will ultimately be but my point in linking the article about Rogers having given Russ the advice that lead him back to football is that I think he dumped Buzz Cook now because he might want the guy that steered back to all the money his return to football stands to make him to reap some of the benefits of that advice. The fairness of it all seems the sort of thing that would appeal to our Mr Wilson.

This again? Please explain this to me. If he doesn't want to play here because of our terrible OL why he would hold out and then be willing to sign some sort of 1 year deal where we promise not to franchise him after that and then risk his future by playing behind that same terrible OL? Your scenerio makes no sense at all.

Anthony is just rolling the dice that his one-in-a-million thread on RW not wanting to play with us simply because the CAP does not allow us to have all 22 players at All-Pro level will come true and he can brag (moan?) about how he was right... he won't be... but he can say anything he wants.

Even if it came down to a FT, he would still do pretty well with a salary for one year in excess of 16 million.
It's a gamble for the player because of injuries, but it's a lot of money for one year and if he signed the next year he would bank a ton of money those 2 years with the guaranteed dollars of the new contract paid up front.

I don't think he has much to worry about from a money perspective and I dont see how they couldn't come to an agreement.
When was the last time a Franchise QB wasn't re-signed by their team after their first contract?

Dude he will hold out to ensure the tag is off the table, he will take out a huge insurance policy just in case. This is all predicate don them trying to tag him, or wanting to wait till next year to talk. I mean why would anyone take a risk playing behind this oline without a long term deal in place. The fact you cannot understand that is funny. All that said if the Hawks negotiate fairly and this year then no worries.

Ahh you see I said this could happen, not it will so my crystal ball is irrelevant. That is the part you guys seem to no understand, All I did was propose a possibility that you guys decided it was what I said would happen. I said it could happen, possible and guess what it could. I mean do you really think Rw and his again tis stupid, If they do not resign him this off season, there is no guarantee they will try next when he is an FA. So they will protect themselves, they will take out a big policy, and then do what it takes to ensure the tag will not be used, other wise it is another year of taking a chance with no guarantees. Now do I think it will come to that, no, I am pretty sure it will not. But if they go the route of the tag as some here have said it cold very likely come to that.

This is not hard to understand the player must protect themselves and the Tag is not a good thing to a player. There is a reason players hate it.

That is not what you were saying earlier. You stated over and over again that a 'likely possibility' was that he could choose not to sign with us simply because he wanted to be the greatest qb ever and you said that would be hard behind our OL, with out WR, and our O scheme, which is the main issue most had with your prediction. Also, the fact that you kept saying things like it was a 'very likely possiblity' and stuff like that. Most on here admit it is a possiblity but won't go anywhere near saying it is 'very likely' and probably put it along the lines of it is also a possiblity that he could quit football all-together and just focus on baseball. Is that a possibility, yes. Is it 'very likely,' of course not.

I never said likely I said possibly

Here is my first words on the subject

"Yeah good luck with that, as the article said even with that Rw was getting hit. AZ has already shown it can man up on our Wr and contain them, because we have no one that can consistently beat man to man without RWs help. Not to mention quick hitters need the Wr and QB to be on the same page, and WR to get to their spots something our WR have not shown they can do. I see either a lot of INTs, or a lot of Rw having to pump because our WR are not were they should be or open. We have shown no interest in really fixing the oline, and no interest in finding a big WR, and no interest in running route trees that are NFL level. I am concerned on 2 fronts. RWs health and RWs desire to stay in a place were they care little for passing and he wants to be the best QB ever.

This game worries me a lot, and could go a long way in deciding not just this year but the next few as this could be the nail in our coffin of keeping RW. And please before anyone says they will franchise him, no they will not. If Rw decides he doe snot want to be here for all the reasons I mentioned, he will hold out and only come in once they agree not to franchise him and then he will be gone.

Some of you might think this scenario will not happen, but think about it. How much more running for his life does Rw want to do? How much of throwing to avg at best Wr does he want to do. How much of having the fewest attempts does he want, how much of hearing how this team is all about the defense does he want?

If you saying yeah but were will he go, look no further than Buffalo, Houston, Philly for starters.

Now I know some of you will say, they have tried to improve the oline and WR. Maybe they have but it is results that count not trying. They have failed at both.

A lot more to this game than simple win or loose.

FYI our oline now ranks 28th in pass blocking."

No place did I say likely. Id fact no were did I say likely, that is what you tried to say I said

Seattle would be insane to let Wilson go. Wilson would be insane to want to go. They should work something out, but dont insult the man and give him help on the offensive line please. If they figure out how to screw this up I would have a hard time continuing to support the FO. I think our wide outs are developing. Richardson has shown a spark, Kearse has been better at physical yac. Wilson will never have superstar receivers because he spreads the ball around so much. hes had a lot of guys hurt. I dont get a sense hes looking to make excuses for his receivers but i think the line has got to be ticking him off. Again though, what do you do with all the guys hurt? Wilson has a ring courtesy of the Hawks and is in a position to get another. Hes been on a championship caliber team his whole career and hes a huge part of the reason why. He should be mentioned in the MVP conversation but he wont be. But Seattle better pay him like he is. Don't break the bank for Sherm and Deuce and get everybody else done and then try to scrimp on the field general.

Pay the man.

Looking back you didn't say 'likely' you said 'a REAL possibility.' It might not be the exact same thing but its dam close and still illistrates my point. Here is your quote:

All this said I do want them to keep Rw, but unlike you 2 I can see a real possibility were they do not, or Rw does not want to stay.

In the end it doesn't really matter to me anymore. I don't think there is a any 'real' chance that your scenario plays out. If you want to continue to worry about it, be my guest. Right now my only 'real' worry about the Hawks is our OL being out its 2 most important starters tomorrow, doesn't bode well against that D.

No it does not a real possibility and likely are not the same at all. Likely mean likely real mean can. nice try though. Yes I can see a real possibility I did not say likely though, so nice try. As to your concern about the oline, I have it too.
