Aaron Rogers has soul

Postby Futureite » Sat Jan 17, 2015 1:18 am

In the words of Earl Thomas, most QBs of his Rodgers' skin color don't.

Uhg.

I've heard Thomas in interviews. He is intelligent, passionate and very complimentary of his opponents. I genuinely like the guy and respect the hell out of his game. But this comment was not his best moment.

You guys think it was out of bounds or you're fine with it? Personally I was offended by it. But certainly not goin to hold it against him or make any judgements about his character. Hopefully he doesn't really think that way and instead meant it as some sort of compliment.

add no link but let me help you the quotes was "“You don't really see a lot of quarterbacks of his skin color with soul like that,” Thomas said. “I like it.”

http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/ ... leg-injury

Now taken by itself questionable, but in the context of how much respect he has for Rodgers it means little. go troll someplace else liar.

Future, where in that taken-out-of-context compliment of AR by the #1 FS in the NFL do you have an issue with it, and why?

If I were you, as a faithful 49er's fan, I would spend less time analyzing (incorrectly) a simple answer to a reporter's question as i would worrying about your new coach, who rated the worst out of all the new hires this week. I would be worrying about what the "New" Kaep that is your QB of the future, will bring to the the table after this off-season at QB Camp. I would wonder if the best two players on my D are coming back. I would be wondering what the hell happened to my OLine last year.

Seems to me there are much more important things to worry about then what our Safety is saying.

Lol cmon man. I have posted to death on said topics on SB Nation. I have been one of the most vocal in criticizing some of those moves even to the point of getting the "troll" tag slapped on me. Obviously, I am a huge fan of that team so the term is absurd. Half the time (or more) it's just an out people use when they cannot discuss a topic or have no relevant point to make.

Just thought some of you could rationally discuss this, and I did make it clear that I respect Thomas, I like him and I am not making any judgements about him as a person based upon this comment. I guess I am not going to get any realistic or genuine opinions on this though. So that's fine, I'll go back ro discussing it with the low barrel IQ posters on ESPN.Com or some other site where people do nothing but "troll".

Sure. Lol it's just funny how damn sensitive some of you are. I mean it's your site and half the threads use to be directed at something Colin Kaepernick said or did, and we were talking about "douches" wearing hats or posing for photo shoots. I mean literally dozens of them.

But your guy makes a comment that touches upon a REAL topic (one that, BTW, more and more of your players are beginning to reference, to the point it's a pattern) and you cannot even begin discuss it.

Eh, why don't you discuss whether the Golden Tate rumors are true, or Kaepernick's douchiness or any number of other topics. A racist comment is big boy stuff. The stuff of trolls.

Yes, I was offended by it. Same way I am offended if someone cuts me off on the road. Not the worst thing in the world but ya, it did bug me a lil' when some dude claims there is a correlative relationship between skin color and "soul". Pretty sure ny favorite rock artists have a shyt ton of soul, as do numerous other QBs and white peoole in all walks of life.

If you had basic reading comprension and analytical skills you'd see I was analyzing the comment and NOT the character of the person that made it.

Just FN drop it. You guys always claim I am a troll. Why respond if that's true. There are several of you that cannit even broach any topic with any remote level of objectivity if it could end up in the negative column, so let it go.

I LOL'd seeing Thomas with his impish mischievous grin saying that. He is a funny dude who keeps his teammates loose. Trying to make a racist charge about that, come on get real. One thing I can assure you we wont hear from Obama, Holder, Sharpton or Farrakhan. And there will be no white people looting over it.

That is a culteral norm and not a personality trait. Traits such as heart, knowledge of the game, ability to feel oe show one's emotions have nothing to do with skin tone.

I have no idea what Thomas really meant, but on my trip up there your radio guys said [paraphrase] - "Earl Thomas feels things. He cries. He shows his emotions. He has SOUL". They used that word several times, and it really stuck in my head afterwards, because I had never heard that word used to describe a player. I thought they had made an interesting observation, but looking back after yesterday's comments, it's clear that they were just parroting things Thomas had told them about himself.

From this and his comments about "knowledge of the game" and "confidence" we can deduce Thomas' definition of soul: Ability to feel things, show emotion, exude confidence, understand (the game) on a deeper level. I personally do not feel as thugh any of these traits have a lick to do with skin color.

It's also ironic to me that reports came mid yr that Seattle's core players did not feel Russell Wilson was "black enough" and Richard Sherman claimed people were "racist" for using the word "thug" after his on air rant, despite the fact that no ethnic slurs were attached to it. Obviously, race is an issue for these men, and you cannot on one hand dole out that card and take it back on the other. Whether positive or negative, they are making this an issue.

To me it is all an interesting confirmation of what I am sure exists in all NFL franchises, including SF's.

Futureite,

I was born and raised in Seattle, 1975. Attended several Seattle Public Schools with a student body of a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Racism was never an issue. Maybe it's different in Southern states, not so much in WA.

All of the sudden "racism" has become an issue, mainly due to two things (in my opinion).

1) Bogus media.
2) People like you, starting ridiculous threads like this and feeding the beast...hence the bogus media, which improves their ratings/profits.

This is a Seattle Seahawks forum for the fans. If you are here to contribute to the conversation, please do. If you are here just to get a reaction, for your own guilty pleasures, take it somewhere else. It's getting old.

The HawkShack is a community of dedicated and intelligent fans. We're all here to support and discuss the team we love, the Seattle Seahawks. I appreciate the perspective from fans of opposing teams, yet it seems like every thread you jump in on takes a negative turn at some point, way beyond general banter or smack talk. It's passive aggressive. If this is your objective, I'm saddened by the fact that you don't have anything more productive to do.

I believe there is an "Off Topic" section as well...where a subject like "Aaron Rogers has soul" would belong.

Have you seen Bridgewater, Warren Moon, Akili Smith, Josh Freeman, Geno Smith? Holy s***, you mean there's a whole bunch of black guys with dull personalities that din't run out of the pocket? Who'd a thunk it? Jesus Christ dude you were railing about the "racist" comments directed at Richard Sherman and now it's a 180. No one was being a FN racist when they called Sherman a thug and I goddamn guarantee you 95% of all other people have never even considered the idea that a person's skin color could alter their freaking "soul power" on the field. It's an asenine, childish assertion. I understand you worship these guys (which is pathetic) but sometimes you're wrong.

People like "me"? Excuse me dude. I'm not from an ultra white city like Seattle with some asian restaurants sprinkled in where you celebrate your diversity. I've grown up in the heart of diversity. My grade school was 26% white and I'm currently a minority in the city that I live in. Race enters my mind about never. It's a normal part of my life. It's a LOT different where I am from than Seattle bro, a lot different.

The only time I even consider an issue like this is when someone else makes an issue of it. Which your players have done twice now in a public forum. It's not about what you think mr. socially aware liberal PNW guy, it's about how all of the kids from Compton and everywhere else feel. And they keep telling you and everyone else how they feel. I heard it, plenty of other people did as well (check a website or two), so don't pin it on me my friend.

I am not surprised that there was a huge thread here and plenty of back and forth banter when Richard Sherman decided to make race an issue. But I post a thread and suddenly it's a "troll" subject.

Got your points. Noted. Enjoy your probable Champ game win.

Are you really going to come on our site, insult our city, fanbase and players and then pull the "I'm better than you cause I live in a different place" statement?

Seattle is one of the most tolerant, most diverse, most progressive, most liberal, foward thinking cities in the United States, if you refuse to acknowledge that, or simply ignore this post, you are indeed emphatically expressing why your here, and it isn't to "discuss football objectively" . Not sure how many times you'll continue to get away with your jabs at this community ( both the Seahawks fanbase, and the city and state which many of us reside in) but eventually, you're going to lose what minuscule support you still carry from the few who still don't want you banned.

I USED to be one of those posters in case you have forgotten ( that ship sailed about the time you made up the sh*t about Wilson) but others who used to if not respect you, than at least tolerated you, no longer fail to see what you are doing with as*hole statements like the one above.

Your need to pretend to be superior in all aspects of life, fandom, football knowledge and now I suppose humanity, wore thin a long time ago Future. Time to grow up, or get lost, you choose, but it isn't something you'll get away with much longer, no matter how tolerant the Mods are..

You're pushing it beyond just about every boundary possible, and making yourself the fool all the while you are doing it. I didn't respond to this juvenile thread, because quite honestly it didn't DESERVE a response, you start taking shots at the posters here, and where I live, and I'm going to speak up. This isn't the first time you pulled this sh*t ( and quite honestly probably won't be the last, it is after all what trolls do). Only an arrogant prick would claim to be a better person because of where they live, and while I agree that IS what you are from all the claims you have made over the years, this is taking it way, way to far.

By the way, my middle school and HS had a lower white population than your grade school, does that make me "more" tolerant? Guess I'm just a better human being than you, because I was outnumbered by minorities right? F*cking stupid, ignorant and moronic. Yeah I suppose there can't possibly be racism in that enviroment, just isn't possible. What a damn tool.

Hey, the "troll" part is a bit harsh. This is a legitimate discussion and there is room for difference of opinion. I mean, turn it around and imagine Rodgers saying Thomas was unusually smart "for a black guy". Wouldn't feel so hot, huh? On the other hand, I agree; I think Thomas, who is quite articulate, was singling Rodgers out as a unique individual and, at least speaking for myself, I am not offended. But I could imagine being offended under other circumstances.

In any event, dismissing someone's point of view as "trolling" is a conversation killer and, in this case, out of place.

Wrong- learn what trolling is before scolding, please.

And of course calling him out for trolling is a conversation killer- trolls aren't here for conversation. That's why he ignores information provided to him and just keeps repeating his same lines over and over.

That earns the troll every bit of mocking and ridicule he gets.

So future made himself an alternate log on eh?

And if it's not, who are you to scold the entire forum with your first post? Future is the very definition of a troll, if you had more than a single post you'd know that. My embarrassment here is that this forum has become so infatuated with him and that I am now addressing him again ...

Ok... this is getting lame. Im most likely going to be more strict about content being posted in the correct forum area. This thread included. We welcome all but if you do not like someone, add them as foe. Yoder and i will have a chat but we need to be more responsible and thoughtful about our online persona. I will say that it is suspect that LeanLeft first post is here.
