So.. what are the Hawks gonna do?

Postby mykc14 » Fri May 01, 2015 1:30 pm

I'm hoping we get the Oregon center with #63 or a different big uglyy along the OL but also wouldn't mind a WR. I'm assuming DGB and Strong are going to be gone by then but whats the thought on Funchess? He's got ideal size and production in college. Seems like the tall outside receiver Pete's been looking for. Another guy I wonder about might be Lockett from Kansas State. He had tremendous production in college and is a burner. The only thing that I don't love is his size and he projects more as a slot guy. I don't want to move ADB out of the slot does anybody think Lockett can play outside? If we go DL I think it might be Bennett from OSU. The funny thing is he sort of plays like Bennett , quick off the ball, not much top end speed.

I think they go Defense first pick with the choice of what position depending on who is available.
They might even take a chance on La'el Collins if he's still there. After all, it's pretty much a 3rd round pick.

Someone like Mike Bennett from Ohio State at DT is what I think they will do.
I see him as a Clinton McDonald type who can penetrate in the middle and plug the run.

3rd Round OL - Grasu, or Shaq Mason as he's a Guard who many are projecting as a Center. That would give us depth at both Center and Guard.

There's always the possibility of moving up if a targeted player starts to fall. With 11 picks it might be a serious consideration.

I think the hawks have their list of players to draft - in order - and they will take whoever is available at the top of the list - regardless of position - when its their turn to draft.

PFT says the Seahawks and Falcons are trying to move up in the 2nd.
The bad thing about former coaches getting HC positions is they could be looking for the same types of players we are.
I wonder who we might be targeting?

A few of the bigger names are (in no particular order)
Eddie Goldman, DT Florida State
Eli Harold, OLB Virginia
Jake Fisher, OT Oregon
Jalen Collins, DB LSU
Jaelen Strong, WR Arizona St.
Dorial Green-Beckham, WR Oklahoma

This is a really good point and we basically have 3 drafting before us (Jags, Arizona, and I'll include the Raiders because of their new DC) and they all have multiple picks before us.

If the reports were correct that we wanted to trade up with the Titans then we were after SS Landon Collins.

Why? I'm not sure, there is any way to glean who they would have been going after, simply because that is who the Giants selected with the pick, there are 31 picks, between then and when Seattle selects, could have been any player between pick one in the second, and pick 63.

There were no reports of us trying to continue to trade up, unlike the Eagles, so by deduction Collins was the guy they wanted.

So, based on reporters, who lord knows are always spot on, not saying Seattle wad attempting to still trade up, we deduce Seattle wanted to trade up and get a backup SS? It couldn' t be the OT Tampa took with the next pick? Sorry, unless I see their board, I'm not buying it.

Ok, I'll stick with the typical practice of jumping in front of other teams to snatch a player they covet. In this case the offensive lineman Tampa selected.

Of course no team EVER trades up to the team to get their player, they always trade ahead and if that player is still there they give up.

He has a bit of a history.

In 2012, pleaded guilty to second-degree home invasion felony charge after stealing a laptop from a Michigan dormitory.

In 2014, finished second on team with 13.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Dismissed from team in November after arrest on domestic violence charges

Whats the use in trying to forecast the Hawks Pick.

Tyler Lockett.

The stats and style of Tyler Lockett (Great return man - excellent quickness and moves - very good route runner - attacks the ball in the air) reminds me of the attributes of Golden Tate.

We do need a return man.

Anyone watching the body language on the live video stream from the Seahawks Draft Room? They seemed stoked over Lockett, but after the Clark pick ... it seemed to me like there was some bad juju ... looked like maybe something didn't go as they expected, or worse - that somene messed up.

If he's a replacement for Tate, he's 2 big steps ahead already as he's a good route runner.
I didn't think KS Offense was pass friendly, but he put up good numbers.
I've read 2 reports that suggested he's best as a slot receiver.
Does this mean Baldwin is the odd man out?

Only if Lockett beats him out. I think there are others that'll go first if it comes to it ...

if the evals are correct, both are better as slot receivers, so who plays in that spot?
He's also smallish but maybe his speed and route running can allow us to put him out wide.

He better be good as we gave up our 4th from NO, our 5th, and our 6th this year for him.
OL is looking like probable in the 4th as the draft wains and talent pool shrinks.
I'm hoping for Shaq Mason OG/C from Georgia Tech. That versatility would help with us losing both a G and C.

You can have two slot guys who can also run outside. It's not like we have drop one or the other. It's more likely to come down to how many WRs we carry overall, as opposed to what type of WR ... although none of these are absolutes. A lot of factors. My thought at least...
