The draft picks have been assigned numbers as well some of the veterans have changed theirs.

It's interesting that Clark has been given a LB number and not a DE which might lead some to consider he will eventually replace Irvin.

DE Frank Clark - 55

WR Tyler Lockett - 16

G Terry Poole - 69

G Mark Glowinski - 63

CB Tye Smith - 22

DE Obum Gwacham - 59

G Kristjan Sokoli - 67

SS Ryan Murphy - 36

Undrafted Rookie Free-Agent Class

LS Nate Boyer - 48

T Jesse Davis - 73

WR Austin Hill - 11

SS Keenan Lambert - 2

SS Ronald Martin - 42

LB Quayshawn Nealy - 43

RB Thomas Rawls - 34

CB Trovon Reed - 1

LB Alex Singleton - 41

DE Tory Slater - 60

RB Rod Smith - 45

FS Triston Wade - 38

Veteran Player Number Changes

RB Robert Turbin - 32

WR Douglas McNeil III - 19

G C.J. Davis - 70

DE Will Pericak - 74

G Nate Isles - 75

DE David King - 93

I think it has more to do with the fact that he was 57 in college and wanted a number as close to that as he could. 55 isn't exclusively a LB number, Irvin himself was drafted to be a DE and took 51.

Oh yeah, you're right.
And Darryl Tapp wore 55, didn't he?
My mistake - I was thinking traditionally, not how assignments are limited.
