Next Year's TV Schedules

Postby RiverDog » Thu Feb 06, 2014 3:30 pm

In recent years, one of the "spoils of victory" for the SB champ is hosting the first regular season game of the following season in a Thursday night marquee matchup. My guess is that we'll play either Denver or SF in our opener, with the former being more likely than the latter.

I heard on Sports Center that CBS will split the Thursday night broadcasts. They're also talking about some Saturday games. They used to have a few Saturday games in December after the college regular season was over (in the pre-conference championship game days) and before the bowls got started.

Expect us to appear in Prime Time for the maximum number of games, which I believe is 5. That number may increase if they add Saturday games.

Niners move into a new stadium in Santa Clara next season. Look for our game there to be a prime time event.

Probably right, RD. We could have 5 prime time games.
It's an advantage to start the season on Thursday as they then get 9 days of rest until they play again.
There are a number of good opponents for ratings such as Dallas, Green Bay, SF, and Denver, so who knows at this point?

They've set a precedent in past years that the Thursday opener be against a team that not only made the playoffs, but went deep into them, which would seem to leave out Dallas. The Packers are a possibility, a Fail Mary rematch has a lot of marketing potential, but I'd think that they'd be more likely to go with either Denver or the Niners.
