Anyone Else Following USA Olympics Men Hockey Team?

You should be.

Next game will be the quarterfinals on Wednesday - I will post the time when it is determined.

I got up at 4:30 a.m. yesterday to watch the Victory over the Russia - Huge stakes game with Putin making a grand entrance in the second period. That was a great game to watch.

But the best part is still to come - the Medal round.

Up here north of the border, the Men's hockey is THE event for us Canadians. I don't think it is now possible for the Americans and Canadians to meet in the final now with how they are seeded, but looking like there could be a semi final game between the 2 teams. The Gold medal final in 2010 in Vancouver was a great game won in OT by Canada.

Yesterday's game was great. The American team is loaded with talent and with Quick in the nets, have as good as chance as any at Gold this year. Should be some great games starting on Wednesday with the quarter finals.

Good luck to you guys...

Mostly catching it on re runs due to the wacky live hours. USA was actually lucky to win that game. A goal of the russians team was called off due to the goal barley being out of the peg. A win is a win and I will try to watch next match live. Go USA.

Saw that game in 2010 - epic battle USA really left everything they had on the ice that night but Canada had more talent then we did.

Will be another classic if we meet in the semifinals.

Ironically I have been watching most of my Olympics on Canadian channel CBUT TV.

Good luck to you guys - if not the USA then I hope its Canada taking the gold. Hockey is so important to the people of Canada.

Yeah - that was a real tough break for the Russian team - because that would still had been a goal if the net had not been off its peg - but the rules are clear for Olympics - if the net is off its peg then no goal will count.

I haven't followed hockey since I was a teenager in New York following the Rangers.
I wish Seattle would have a hockey team again.
Didn't we win the Stanley Cup back in the day?

Anyway, I'd be a season holder in a HEARTBEAT if Seattle got a hockey team!

Hockey is one of those games that is fantastic to watch live if you get close enough to the action. TV is getting better, but it still isn't the same.

I think the US team has a better lineup than Canada with better goal tending and maybe more scoring, but this tournament seems to be about Defense. They might face off against each other this year and if they do it should be pretty good.
On the other hand, a gold medal game of the US against Russia might be real exciting, too if the scheduling works out that way.

Next Game Up for the USA Olympic Hickey team is Tomorrow (Wednesday).

A quarterfinal loser out match against Czechoslovakia.

Start time is 9:00 a.m. Pacific.

I believe that if USA wins then they would face Team Canada in the semi-finals. That game will be played on Thursday o0r Friday.

Why can't the Russians play Canada and get knocked out that way?

I've had a hard time getting into these Olympics, even though it's the winter games, which I prefer over summer.

Finland beat the Russians so there will be no rematch between USA and Russia.
There might be a match between USA and Canada, though.

Finland beat Russia? At least now they can stop blaming the American ref for their loss to the "lousy yankee Americans". :x :D

Canada and America rematch? We always lose to the Canadians. With due respect to my bro Agent86,
if we beat Canada that popping noise will be millions of Canadian hockey fans heads exploding in front of their plasmas.

No way we beat Canada. IMO

LOL...you should see what is going on up here....everyone is in a panic as Canada has only won 1 of its games handily. Only beating Latvia 2-1 today had a lot of Canucks jumping off the bandwagon.

This should be a great game, a coin toss.

The thing is, I am huge Montreal Canadiens fan, and an NHL fan in general. Have run a fantasy pool for the past 15 years, so I have come to like a lot of American and European players. I give full respect to the American team this year, so many great players. And with grit guys like Backes, D.Brown, Callahan, they have a great mix of players. The only thing I would question is their defense. Ryan McDonaugh is gonna have to be a beast on Friday (a Montreal draft pick that we gave away in a trade for Scott Gomez...oy yoy yoy!!). Him and Suter will get big minutes and Quick will have to be his usual self.

I would not be surprised to see the Americans win this game, a lot of guys have the 2010 loss taste in their mouths still.

Enjoy the game everyone, should be a beauty!

Canada is the deeper team but USA can win the game.

Game time is 9:00 a.m. Pacific on Friday.

Don't forget the Gold Medal Game for the ladies Hockey tomorrow (Thursday) between Canada and USA - these two teams do not like each other and are the ladies version of the Seahawks and 49er rivalry (seriously when I have seen the highlights these girls are going at in in full on fist swinging brawls). This game starts at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time too.

Wow - this USA & Canada Gold Medal game is the best women's sporting event I have ever seen.

3rd period coming up - should be excellent.

That (overtime) was a fitting ending for two teams that are evenly matched. At least it didn't go into a shootout. Let the teams play it all out on the ice.
It's a tough way to lose any game let alone for the Gold Medal. It probably will hurt for a long time.

Congratulations on the two victories Agent 86 - especially the women's game which was more exciting then the men.

You guys sure do own the Winter.

Good luck in the Gold.

Thanks Savvy....the women's game was a heartbreaker for the American's to lose a 2-0 lead late in the game. It was a great finish between 2 teams who are so evenly matched. Canada just gets it done on the Olympic stage.

The Men's game was far from a classic. I was telling a buddy I would love to see them play again where something much less was on the line. I would love to see the skill unleashed out there. Honestly, both teams played so conservative and "systematic" that their true skill was not on display. Don't get me wrong, there was still some good hockey out there, but I remember watching the '02 games in Salt Lake City and being so impressed with the pace and scoring chances of those games.

Tough game today for the American Men, you could tell they were still hungover from the loss to Canada. I would venture to say that getting Bronze for most of them didn't mean as much as it did to the Fins. And the Fins were really playing for Teemu Selanne who at 43 years old, became the oldest medalling hockey player.

Will be getting up at 3:45am tomorrow and cracking my first Molson Canadian at puckdrop. Screw the coffee and Bailey's, I'm going straight to the cold stuff!!.......and loving it.......

Yeah, in the semi finals, Canada beat the US 1-0.......and Sweden beat Finland 2-1 in the other semi final.

Canada beat Sweden 3-0 in the Gold medal game......and Finland beat the US 5-0 in the Bronze game yesterday.

Man, the US team collapsed a bit there at the end.

For not being a hockey country, I think to be 4th in the world and even above the Russians, ain't bad. Even though we didn't get a medal.

That would be good for Seattle - and Vancouver.
Lesser road trips for both teams and a ready made rivalry.
