I called in to Sirius NFL & asked the guys on Movin The Chains, (Pat Kerwin & Jim Miller, I think), this question. What do you think are the Seahawks plans to upgrade the OL in FA & the draft? Their answer was this: Given the big picture of Tom Cable's plans for the OL, there are basically things that will fall into place for the plan. Cable has a complicated zone blocking scheme in place, & he will continue to use the available people he already has in place to continue to execute the scheme. The spots available will be filled with backups that he has already educated in this scheme, & as those positions get filled, he will use the draft to put guys in place to come in & learn the roles that will be played by the new additions to the team. The overall plan is basically a next man up plan, with rookies coming in as the backups fill in the roles created by vacating FA's, retiring players, & injuries. It sounded to me like there are no plans to sign FA's for the OL, I don't know how much these guys really know about the Seahawks MO regarding the OL, but it sounded to me like the talk show hosts had a finger on the pulse of what the Seahawks plan to do or not do, & it stands to reason that this is why they haven't invited any FA's to come in. They want to use a system whereby they train young players to come in, learn the system, & then execute it on the field when they're ready, not by plugging holes with free agents.
