With all the franchise type players contracts coming up, this would be an easy one to overlook, if only for a moment.

Glad Pete is gonna stick around for awhile. Not that coach Carroll needed it, but this new deal, I imagine, will further re-invigorate a guy who has boundless energy to begin with.

Bottom line is, I'm glad he's our coach. I liked the hire 4 yrs ago, but honestly didn't visualize him being the one to raise the franchise's 1st Lombardi (that honor should've been done already by Holmgren, with no slight to him in the least).

I'm very excited about Seattle's future. Just hope we can keep our front office in tact as much as possible, in addition to our Super Bowl winning roster (minus a few OL, of course:)

Let's hope they're working on JS's extension next.

Pete's success is one of the things that I'll readily admit (and gladly admit) where I was wrong. I felt that he had failed at two previous NFL attempts, that a lot of his college success was a result of inheriting one of the best football jobs in the country with recruiting advantages up the ying yang, and that his rah rah style might not go over so well in the pros. I basically considered him a college coach, and to be honest, not many coaches have been successful at both levels, including some pretty good college coaches like Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban.

One of the things I'm wondering about is how much longer is Pete going to want to coach, and can he keep up the pace he's established for himself? Pete is currently 62 years old, which makes him the second oldest active head coach, behind Tom Coughlin, and in the top 10 oldest head coaches ever (George Halas and Marv Levy coached until they were 72). Last season, we saw a couple of younger head coaches, John Fox and Gary Kubiak, undergo some serious medical issues, and you have to wonder if Pete is taking note.

So does Pete coach 3 more years? 5? 10?

The fun part is this is going to twist the knife just a little bit more for Harbaugh who the 49ers don't want to pay for some reason.

How is it the second oldest coach in the NFL still moves around and burns the hours like a teenybopper?

There's a lot of envy amongst his peers out there slowly digesting breakfast with their Aunt Acids.

Just think "ShackShakers", when he got here we didn't even have one player that would have made the NFC West first string all star line-up.

And I'm willing to bet there are a few toss-ins on the contract we won't hear about ... maybe not Paul Allen's yacht, but, perhaps one of his helicopters ... although PC doesn't need a mood elevator.

Next one up (Lombardi trophy, that is).

Thank you, PC.

They already extended him last off-season. We get both of them for the foreseeable future!

I seem to remember the JS contract being a short term one ( like to the end of Carrolls original contract) so I think ( and I certainly could be wrong on this) that his contract is up either at the end of this season or possibly the next.

Edit: through 2016 ( or two years longer than Carrolls original deal) my mistake.

He's amazing for 62.
He's 8 years older than me but has what seems to be more than twice the energy.
Maybe it's the waking up to looking at good hair in the mirror every morning...

Edit, here is a link to a comment about the turnaround from PFT:

3 year deal I saw yesterday.

A little surprised, but I guess I shouldn't be given that Pete's 62, though that sounds less and less old to me as I go along:)

Regardless, time to win another (or 2) Super Bowls before he retires for good. I'll also be curious if we are able to hire within the organization to take over when Carroll goes. Make some sense, because there should be some core pieces left on the roster three years from now, chief among those RW, and probably ET and Sherman. For an outsider to come in and tweak what's working for the sake of his own style would be foolish, though that kind of thing would be discussed before an official hiring anyway.

You're getting way, way ahead of yourself, Zorny. The fact that Pete signed 'just' a 3 year deal doesn't necessarily mean that he's planning on hanging it up in 3 years. He's keeping his options open. As physically fit and energetic as he is, he could coach until he's 90. It also doesn't mean he's going to coach only the Seahawks, either.

I thought it was a 2 year deal...

I wonder what this means for Hairball. Makes it less likely that he will extend his contract for less unless he wins another SB, then he gets the big bucks. But then he has another 2 years left anyway.
