Sherman vs Salk

Postby Hawktawk » Wed Dec 14, 2022 2:20 pm

I was listening to seattle sports radio on my way to work and KJ was in the studio with Brock Huard and Mike Salk. Sherman was on live . Salk asked him a question about his other stops in the league and as near as I remember his answer was " you talked a lot differently about me after I left then when I was here and I'm not answering your questions"

Salk asked what he had said and Sherman never specified it. Salk said he could pull up a tape and Sherman said he didn't listen to his show and was only on for KJ who is getting into sportscasting. Salk said" that's not how it works my name is on the show."
Sherman said "you are dismissed from this interview" An obviously embarrassed KJ rapidly concluded the interview along with Huard. Salk seemed shell shocked. He pointed out that if Sherman wouldn't take his questions why the hell come on the show? Sherman better watch it because it's his job commenting on the games now and hes pretty critical himself. KJ did address that players respect other current or former players much more than media people who didnt play.

I thought utterly classless treatment of a guy who is one of his peers in sportscasting now. I was starting to really like him again. I had similar feelings for him as Russ running his mouth on the way out the door. Dudes eggs are scrambled.
KJ is gonna be good

You jumped on Sherm's lap when he started to attack Russ like you did. Sherm's always been this way, but I guess Russ was the problem on the team and not a guy with a huge ego who likes to smack talk and drum up controversy to get himself in front of the camera.

Sherm did more to get in front of the camera than Russ ever did, but not a peep from you about Sherm's behavior in recent years. Russ is the bad guy, not Sherm and his antics. Though I wonder if I was able to pull up the old Sherm threads I would you find you attacking Sherm back then too.

Like I've said a thousand times, I'll take a corny choirboy like Russ over most of the NFL every day of the week. When Russ retires, he'll happily move into broadcasting or whatever else with the worst anyone can say about him is "He's too square" or "Corny" or "too robotic." With a lot of other players, they'll have other stuff to say about them.

You go with whoever says what you want to hear at given time to fit your confirmation bias. Most of us with an objective viewpoint know Sherm is all about himself and his huge ego. When he left he wasn't happy with the Seahawks either.

Just finished listening to it. I've never been a Salk fan, he seems like a teenage fanboy to me, just my opinion. However, that was a classless move by Sherm, just quit holding grudges, put on your big boy pants and get over it. Salk saying "it's my name on the show" was childish, something I would expect him to say. So what Salk, no one is listening to that show because of you. KJ did well to recover, and I liked Brock defending "Salky, who I've known for 14 years" The discussion Salk, KJ and Brock had after Sherm was off the air was really, really good.

Salk is a bit of a lightweight. I enjoy the show much more than the obnoxious loud national guys for the most part.I like Wyman and Bob more. But Brock is the morning guy with credibility and knowledge of the game.

And yes I really thought after Sherm went off the discussion was excellent. Just kinda flabbergasted that a guy like Sherman with all his warts including legal issues felt compelled to do that. Almost like he trapped Salk because he wanted to air his beef and embarrass him on air to do it. Very petty.

Quit spitting it. Pull up Shermans DUI thread or go back to the year he left and did lots of the same god damn stuff russ did, run his mouth and I didnt like it and said so . Your full of it
You want to obsess on Russ so bad you pull it into a sherman thread have at it but dont lie about my positions. I've been consistent with players who crap on the organization. You should have seen my comments on Hutchinson.

But Sherman can be an utter jackass and still be right about Russ. Besides its not just Sherman. KJ who likes Russ has detailed the issues. How about Baldwin? He made Russ look a lot better than he was. but no love lost Brother. He clearly dislikes him. His gif after denver was brutal.
I have plenty of issues with both. Lots of star wars numbers but one lombardi, threw one away on the 1 and 3 wild card wins after. No game winning drives or game winning interceptions.
The dynasty that wasn't. Both were disruptive in the locker room(russ more) and both talked crap on the way out.
I retract nothing on either man. I've been right on the money.

I'd hang out with either one of them. I don't mind a little crazy like Sherm or a little corny and good-natured like Russ. Listen to Seahawks stories. I had great time watching both of them.

I lost respect for Sherm in that playoff game against SF when he knocked away a pass from the receiver that would have been a game winning. Sherm went on a tirade about how the niners should have known better than to send a second rate receiver up against him. Can't remember the receiver's name. Anyway, Sherm's outburst was very unprofessional and classless. Very ego driven and childless. I have no doubt that Sherm and some other malcontents on the team during the post SB win years contributed to the Russ Wilson problem.

I think the SB loss poisoned the well myself. It's been revisionist history looking for where to place blame. In reality it's just real hard to win a Super Bowl and real hard to get back and win a second time and then even harder to maintain it after that, especially so in the salary cap era which is why Bill B's Patriot record will never be broken in my opinion.

I watched those old Cowboys teams. Jerry Jones fired Jimmy Johnson because he didn't like Jimmy getting the credit for the Cowboys Dynasty.

I watched the 49ers trade Joe Montana when he was too old after winning four Super Bowls, then win one more with Steve Young and they haven't won a SB since the mid 90s.

I plan to enjoy the memory of our amazing Super Bowl team with its elite defense, elite QB, elite RB, and overall amazing team. It was a great era and a good time where a bunch of amazing athletes with very different personalities came together under Pete Carroll, a HC with a unique personality, to finally bring us home a Lombardi and create a legendary defense with a name they earned with an under-sized QB that proved to be the best of the bunch in a historic QB class and a brutal RB that lived up to the name Beastmode that gave us a few good Beastquakes. Damn good times watching football during that era.

Interesting
I thought Sherman’s tip to Smith to secure a trip to 48 was the biggest play in Seahawks history . An amazing play really as Crabtree is fouling Sherman with his hand on his helmet pushing him down . Somehow he got off that stiff arm to elevate and tip a perfectly thrown ball . Incredible . The strength and athletecism required to remain standing much less recover and elevate like that is one of the most remarkable game saving plays in conference championship history .
As for his manic post game comments they were a byproduct of an off-season altercation with Crabtree at a Larry Fitzgerald benefit event . Sherman didn’t forget . That was one of the most iconic sequences in Seahawks history. And looking back ut took the focus off the team and put it on Sherman who craved it anyway . I think it was all part of our Lombardi . It’s what Sherman has become now that’s cringe worthy . I wish him well . Wish Russ well next year . I just called it like I saw it.

It was the NFCCG for the 2013 season, the victory propelled us to SB 48, and the play became known as the Immaculate Deflection. The Niners receiver was Michael Crabtree. I remember it as if it happened yesterday.

What set Sherman off was that immediately after the play where a completely extended Sherman knocked a pass intended for Crabtree in the end zone into the hands of Seahawk linebacker Michael Smith, sealing the victory for the Hawks. Sherman offered a handshake and a "Nice game, man!" gesture, but Crabtree felt it was sarcastic and slapped Sherm's hand away as he was trotting back to the Niners sideline. Sherm reacted by seeking out the first camera he could find and went off on a nationally televised rant where he called Crabtree a "sorry" receiver. As John Madden said, it was pretty embarrassing. I, too, thought it was uncalled for.

I honestly don't know who to blame for in the demise of the relationship between Russell and his defensive teammates. Since the man at the top in any organization is responsible for everything under the tent, you have to start with Pete Carroll then work your way down.

Yep. Sherm deflected the pass to Malcolm Smith. Amazing play. It was awesome.

I liked Sherm's reaction. Crabtree and Colin K were a couple of punks talking smack. Sherm shut them up and then blasted them. He was hyped.

Sherman is one of my all time favorite Seahawk players. As a person, not so much. And that's Ok with me, since we are talking about entertainers not congressmen. Speaking of which, another of my all times is Steve Largent. Wonderful player. Also a right wing Christian who went into politics. I didn't like that much.

While you may not have approved of his politics, you had to have loved Largent's honesty as a politician. I don't want to turn this into a political thread, but Largent retired after 4 terms(?) as was his promise where many other of his colleagues broke their pledge. He ran for governor OK and lost a very close race in a campaign that was very nasty and personal, so he decided to retire from politics.

As far as Sherman goes, I agree, he was a great player but not so much an individual that I'd want my kids or grandkids emulating. I still don't know how he, and Geno for that matter, were able to duck their DUI's and associated unlawful behavior.

Great point . Try to separate the person and the player . Let’s face it the Seahawks in the young Russ Beast Mode LOB years were a delight . I literally feel like puking watching this defense and run game .

But sometimes I think the guys on that team should be more thankful, appreciate each other , appreciate the Coach and Gm and organization who brought them in . The 12s .
Wags is probably the only key guy who left with the correct attitude and of all of them he had the most reason to be upset and say some junk after being informed he was cut in the media . Bennett, Et, Beast all shot off their mouths. Doesn’t mean they weren’t great . Russ either . A phony in the end . Mercenary . But still our greatest Qb, one of the greatest dual threat qb .
But juxtapose all those guys with Geno “ my hard times would be a dream for someone else “.
So few pro athletes get that . I never care to hear any of them whine about playing a kids game for a kings ransom .
I wish the guy a Gannon like late bloomer career . Here or elsewhere . He’s been a breath of fresh air in the league.

Come on now river . It’s called cash register justice . Name recognition and lots of money . Sherman’s offense was horrible , drive into a active construction zone after 2 fifths , hit a barrier and left on 3 tires . Menaced his family , fought police . A scary episode . The judge who arraigned him called him a “ pillar of the community “ his sentence was some sort of plea deal involving no jail time . You and I discussed it at the time and you felt it was within range . I expected a year based on my knowledge of the process from my unfortunate experience . It was a slap on the hand.

Geno was a typical DUI traffic infraction 90 mph in a 700 hp Bentley . It reportedly got ugly at the station as he wound up alluding to the dimensions of his manhood being undersized .

The status of his case is a mystery . No word . I see a couple of possibilities . His attorney is fighting hard and asking for multiple continuances pushing out the case . If that’s it something will become public at some point . It’s also possible with a sharp attorney they have found something the cops did wrong in terms of probable cause or something . The police immediately releasing a trandcript of the jail interaction may have been considered prejudicial . If a judge decides they didn’t do it right it goes away . Mine almost did . Cops do lie .
But for perspective AZ Gm Steve keim was sleeping in an intersection . The titans DC was popped 40 minutes from the airport .

Ruggs killed a girl and her dog at 156 mph on a city street in Vegas .

Don’t drink and drive . It isn’t worth it .

Agree, OBS about both of these opinions. Largent remains the Seahawk wr goat. While I also don’t want to get political here, it was pretty hard as a fan to witness Largent winning office as a Christian conservative right winger. But as RD said, at least he was honest. He was one of the old school decent Republicans that are a rare find these days.

I thought Sherman came off childish yesterday. Sherm obviously knew Salk was going to be there as it was his show. He likely went onto the show just to do that childish stubborn standoff. Pretty pathetic considering KJ considering was also KJ show. His 2014 NFC championship rant against Crabtree didn’t bother me because I was so over the top excited. I just thought it was funny because why so mad after winning such a spectacular game  .

Sherm is always going to be Sherm. It's who he is. At least you know where you stand with him and his attitude got him to where he is today.
That chip on his shoulder is just part of his personality, and it has served him well. Will he make mistakes? Sure, everyone does but that's who the man is.

Sherm was awesome as a player . Without one of the most incredible plays , the long fingers and frame we don’t have a Lombardi . And Sherm always had a loud loquacious personality . I had zero issue with his in game jawing , loved the end of the 9 ers game “ sorry ass receiver “  I loved “ you mad bro “ too although I’m sure it was on Brady’s mind in the 4th quarter of 49.
It just seems Richard has gotten mean . No smile on his face anymore when he’s saying stuff . He ambushed Salk .
Seattle media is crucifying him today . If I was TNF I’d yank him off the air till he understands how to represent Amazon Prime correctly when off air .

Yeah, driving drunk 90+mph at night on an urban freeway, refusing to take a court ordered blood test and having to be physically restrained for it to be drawn, then telling a policeman that was trying to befriend him that he had "little dick syndrome" is your typical garden variety DUI that happens all the time.

That dui was very immature of Geno. He does seem quite humble and mature ever since that moment. Hopefully he goes off tonight! God knows we need him to.

He's in his early 30's, a little late in life to be acting "immature."

After the incident, Geno begged the public not to jump to conclusions, but he never offered an explanation or told his side of the story. But it's a moot point as it's obviously not going to affect his playing status. But it did cause me to lose a little bit of respect for him.

I'm assuming you've never been arrested for DUI River? If you've ever driven after a few consider yourself extremely fortune. Also a hypocrite popping off about someone who wasn't as lucky as you. 1 in 1000 is the police estimate. reverse lottery.
I was arrested years ago and found the entire process miserable but very educational. Ill start with saying what i did was dumb as hell and I was guilty as charged. But the cop was still caught in 3 lies based on his own dash cam footage. He said I hadn't stopped at a stop sign. The judge agreed I did. He said the crosswalks were full. They were empty and I mean empty. He said I had swerved into the turn lane and my tire had touched the line by 1/4 inch for half a second. I almost got off on what's called a probable cause hearing due to this officer making stuff up. Cops routinely lie and cut corners and sharp attorneys pick them apart.
But I was my own worst enemy. When they give you the right to remain silent do it. I didn't and I said incriminating things. Geno REPORTEDLY said all this stuff . When a cop starts talking to an arrested person they are trying to coax more incriminating statements out of someone who has been read their miranda rights. They're not trying to be your buddy.

But the arrest was 11 months ago. Since the police dumped all the transcripts of Genos supposed comments out to the public its been crickets. They may have screwed something up.Seemed damn prejudicial to me to dump that out to the public when the case wasn't adjudicated If a judge decides the cops made a mistake its thrown out or plead down. I would think we would hear about any plea deal.
Innocent until proven guilty . That's how it works. Hopefully Genos learned his lesson but I'm no rubber stamp for cops either.
And I've lost zero respect for him. I respect him twice as much as I did then.
