I don't get the impression he wants to be traded.
Rather I think he wants to either sign with Seattle or become a FA where he can determine
where he plays and for how much.

It's hard to tell exactly what Russell wants. Even if he did want out, there's no way he'd ever come out and say it Earl Thomas style. Russell is perhaps the most polite, respectful, and politically correct player in the league, and he's not going to say anything to disrespect Pete, JS, or the 12's.

And if a trade did happen, it would have to be with Russell's consent as no team is going to give up the resources it would take to get him unless they have an understanding with him on a new contract.

As we approach the 15th it really looks like an extension is unlikely. It would be nice to lock him up at 35ish a year and be done with it. What this really is doing is forcing our hand with Clark, Reed, and Wags. If the 15th comes and goes with no contract with RW then we have to decide what to do with these guys because we know we will be using the F-Tag on RW. IMO there is no way you trade RW this off-season. You know you have him below market value for 3 years (25 this year, 30 next year, and 36 the year after) and you don't have a viable replacement on the team. That means that you have to do something with the other guys. You have to either re-sign all of them or know you might lose them. Reed was a force last year and if he has another 10 sack season he is going to get PAID if he reaches free agency. You already know Clark will get over 20 mil on the open market next off-season and Wags would get 17+ mil/year if you let him test free agency. If ever there was an off-season when you would want the F-tag in your back pocket it would be next year for the Hawks. They realistically have 4 guys that they could use it on and if we already know it is going to be used on RW something has to happen with the other guys. Furthermore all of those guys will now know that the Hawks won't be able to F-tag them next year and that gives them a big advantage during negotiations this off-season.

No it wouldn't! It would be NICE to lock him up for 20 Million a year like TOM BRADY!

Your numbers for for a possible 3 FT's for Wilson are off a little:

Per a source with knowledge of the situation,” Florio wrote, “the current expectation from Wilson’s perspective is that he’ll finish his current deal and receive the franchise tag in 2020. Based on his 2019 cap number of $25.286 million, it will cost the Seahawks $30.34 million to keep him for another season after the expiration of his current deal.”

Florio notes if Wilson does choose to go the franchise-tag route, as Cousins did in Washington for two straight years, it gets very expensive for Seattle. A second straight franchise tag would cost the Seahawks $36.41 million for 2021, and a third for 2022 would be $52.43 million.

https://seahawkswire.usatoday.com/2018/ ... m-in-2020/

The third year would be prohibitively expensive if it ever got that far. But of course, the CBA ends after the in 2020 season, so who knows what things would look like. That's one of the reasons why I've been hoping that we can get him extended before the start of this season, but like you say, that prospect is looking pretty bleak right now.

And sorry, obi, but you're dreaming if you think that Russell, or any other top 10 QB as far as that goes, would ever sign a deal as low as you're hoping for. It's not about championships anymore.

Hmm?? That is what I said. We have him for the next three years below market value: 2019 25 mil (last year of his current deal), 2020 30 mil (F-Tag year 1), 2021 36 mil (F-Tag year 2). That’s basically what Florio said too. Considering his market value is about 35 mil this year we have below market value for 3 years.

My mistake. I didn't realize that you were counting this upcoming season under contract and were referring to 3 FT's. My bad.

Nevertheless, we still have that pesky CBA that expires after next season, so who knows what the FT will look like. There's a possibility that they could do away with it all together, which could make Russell a FA in 2021.

No problem- yeah there is definitely uncertainty surrounding the F-Tag and the new CBA. The best case scenario really seems like it would be to sign him now and then not worry about what happens with the CBA. Nothing gets a deal done like a deadline- if both parties are really motivated by it. The problem with RW’s is that it is an arbitrary date that isn’t tied to a hard deadline. I mean if they were close on Monday at 11:59 is he going to cut off negotiations? It’s going to be interesting, only a few days left.

My theory was that RW had given the April 15th deadline as it was a little over a week before the draft. There are still some out there that are claiming that the Seahawks might pull the trigger on a pre-draft trade. The Giants, in particular, are in a good position to pull off such a deal, as they have the #6, #17, and #37 overall picks and cleared cap space with their trade of OBJ. We all know the story behind Cierra wanting to go to the Big Apple.

I personally don't think that will happen, at least not this season, but Russell did set that deadline way back in February, so perhaps he was thinking back than that there was a possibility, however remote, of a pre draft trade and wanted to flush out the Hawks top offer so he could make a decision.

If I was a GM for the Seahawks, I'd be hard pressed not to accept a deal for a trade if it included those three picks. #6, #17 and #37. I'm not sure the Giants would even offer that deal but if they did, I wouldn't be able to get the pen out fast enough....

IF as a GM I had come to the conclusion that we were not ever going to be able to resign Russell, then it would depend on who's available at #6. If there wasn't a QB available that I really, really liked, then there's no way I'd go for a trade like that. You can't trade away the best QB in franchise history that's at the peak of his career and still under contract unless you feel awfully damn good about his replacement.

Kyler Murray is obviously the QB that's the most like Russell and one that I'd assume we'd be interested in if we were going to trade him before or during the draft. Our two division rivals are sitting in the #1 and #2 slots, so it's unlikely that we'd ever be able to work a 3 way deal to move up and there's no way he'd ever drop to #6. If Gruden at #4 doesn't want Murray for himself, he'd be more than willing to swap places with the Jags, Bills, Broncos, et al.

IMO we're "stuck" ;) with Russell for at least another year.

There seems to be a thought out there that Pete wants a mobile QB, but his history doesn't suggest that's true.
I've said before that he's never had that in College or the Pros and never signed one prior to Wilson.
What he does want is a QB that is accurate, can throw the deep ball, makes good decisions, and doesn't
throw a lot of INT's. That puts a lot of other QBs in play for what they are looking for, so I think it's a
mistake that they are looking for another Russell Wilson.

I also think that if they are going to trade Wilson, they will want another QB that has the above qualities
and has shown he can play at the NFL level. That would mean a current backup QB or starter and I've
pushed for Carr in Oakland. They've got a lot of draft picks to give up and Gruden loves Wilson, so
since we will never be able to replace Wilson, that's a natural fit.
But I still think they want to re-sign Wilson to an extension and it wouldn't surprise me if they get it
done by TC.

IMO looking back into Pete's college teams nearly a decade ago isn't relevant. For one, the college game isn't the same as the NFL, never has, never will. Secondly, Pete is a different coach now than he was back then. He may look at his Seahawks and decide that his offensive line would not be able to protect a relatively immobile quarterback. Our running game might not be as effective if not for Russell. Therefore, it's reasonable to conclude that if he had to replace Wilson, he'd try to get as close to a clone of him as he could. It's as good a guess as any.

Yea, you keep selling us Carr, but I'm not buying, at least not for $25M/year. One of the few advantages of trading RW would be to enjoy a discounted QB for a couple of years. Carr's not worth half of what the Raiders are paying him.

Carr's Cap Hit according to Spotrac is:
2019: $22,500,000
2020: $21,500,000
2021: $22,125,000
2022: $19,777,519

That's a good contract to be able to make the necessary moves to keep other players.

The reasons a deal makes sense are:
1) He's an established NFL QB that although not top 5, has the potential to be top 10.
2) In Pete's conservative system, and positive reinforcement, he could thrive
3) He's not Gruden's QB - he inherited him
4) Gruden loves Wilson
5) The Raiders have a lot of high draft picks this year
6) It gives us room to re-sign Clark, Reed, Wagner, and others over the coming years

I'm not saying we do it, but if we are to trade Wilson, it would seem to be a good fit for both teams.

I'll concede that I was off a little on the $25M. Nevertheless, it's still a lot more of a position downgrade than it is a financial savings.

Agreed that Carr's not Gruden's QB and that he's likely to be looking for 'his' QB, but he's really in love with Murray, too, and if he's going to work a trade, IMO it will be to move up and select Murray. Additionally, Ciara has her eyes on the Big Apple, not the desert.

If Ciara is the deciding factor, then Wilson will go the FT route for Free Agency in a couple of years
and we will only get a 3rd round comp pick and have to develop a QB from scratch. It's doubtful
we will get anyone as developed as Carr currently is for a number of years if at all. But with
a fistful of high draft picks...

On another note, I read a comment that they had already agreed on the money for Wilson, but the
sticking point was the number of guaranteed years. I hope it's true and a deal can be quickly made.

What makes you think that would be Ciara's preference? As long as we're assuming don't you think she'd just as soon the Giant's just trade for him this year?

Mark Rodgers & John Schneider have been meeting for several hours the past couple days. Hopefully there’ll be great news for all Seahawks fans if they can lock up the winningest QB in NFL and Franchise history in first 7 seasons @DangeRussWilson

What I meant by that was if Ciara wants out of Seattle, and the team wants him to stay, his way to get out is to go the FT route and
he would be gone in 3 years or maybe less regardless of any offer.
