It would be nice to lock him up at 35ish a year and be done with it.
mykc14 wrote:As we approach the 15th it really looks like an extension is unlikely. It would be nice to lock him up at 35ish a year and be done with it. What this really is doing is forcing our hand with Clark, Reed, and Wags. If the 15th comes and goes with no contract with RW then we have to decide what to do with these guys because we know we will be using the F-Tag on RW. IMO there is no way you trade RW this off-season. You know you have him below market value for 3 years (25 this year, 30 next year, and 36 the year after) and you don't have a viable replacement on the team. That means that you have to do something with the other guys. You have to either re-sign all of them or know you might lose them. Reed was a force last year and if he has another 10 sack season he is going to get PAID if he reaches free agency. You already know Clark will get over 20 mil on the open market next off-season and Wags would get 17+ mil/year if you let him test free agency. If ever there was an off-season when you would want the F-tag in your back pocket it would be next year for the Hawks. They realistically have 4 guys that they could use it on and if we already know it is going to be used on RW something has to happen with the other guys. Furthermore all of those guys will now know that the Hawks won't be able to F-tag them next year and that gives them a big advantage during negotiations this off-season.

Based on his 2019 cap number of $25.286 million, it will cost the Seahawks $30.34 million to keep him for another season after the expiration of his current deal.”
Florio notes if Wilson does choose to go the franchise-tag route, as Cousins did in Washington for two straight years, it gets very expensive for Seattle. A second straight franchise tag would cost the Seahawks $36.41 million for 2021, and a third for 2022 would be $52.43

mykc14 wrote:Hmm?? That is what I said. We have him for the next three years below market value: 2019 25 mil (last year of his current deal), 2020 30 mil (F-Tag year 1), 2021 36 mil (F-Tag year 2). That’s basically what Florio said too. Considering his market value is about 35 mil this year we have below market value for 3 years.

My mistake. I didn't realize that you were counting this upcoming season under contract and were referring to 3 FT's. My bad.
Nevertheless, we still have that pesky CBA that expires after next season, so who knows what the FT will look like. There's a possibility that they could do away with it all together, which could make Russell a FA in 2021.
mykc14 wrote:No problem- yeah there is definitely uncertainty surrounding the F-Tag and the new CBA. The best case scenario really seems like it would be to sign him now and then not worry about what happens with the CBA. Nothing gets a deal done like a deadline- if both parties are really motivated by it. The problem with RW’s is that it is an arbitrary date that isn’t tied to a hard deadline. I mean if they were close on Monday at 11:59 is he going to cut off negotiations? It’s going to be interesting, only a few days left.
RiverDog wrote:My theory was that RW had given the April 15th deadline as it was a little over a week before the draft. There are still some out there that are claiming that the Seahawks might pull the trigger on a pre-draft trade. The Giants, in particular, are in a good position to pull off such a deal, as they have the #6, #17, and #37 overall picks and cleared cap space with their trade of OBJ. We all know the story behind Cierra wanting to go to the Big Apple.
I personally don't think that will happen, at least not this season, but Russell did set that deadline way back in February, so perhaps he was thinking back than that there was a possibility, however remote, of a pre draft trade and wanted to flush out the Hawks top offer so he could make a decision.

NorthHawk wrote:There seems to be a thought out there that Pete wants a mobile QB, but his history doesn't suggest that's true.
NorthHawk wrote:I also think that if they are going to trade Wilson, they will want another QB that has the above qualities and has shown he can play at the NFL level. That would mean a current backup QB or starter and I've pushed for Carr in Oakland. They've got a lot of draft picks to give up and Gruden loves Wilson, so since we will never be able to replace Wilson, that's a natural fit. But I still think they want to re-sign Wilson to an extension and it wouldn't surprise me if they get it done by TC.
NorthHawk wrote:Carr's Cap Hit according to Spotrac is:
2019: $22,500,000
2020: $21,500,000
2021: $22,125,000
2022: $19,777,519
That's a good contract to be able to make the necessary moves to keep other players.
The reasons a deal makes sense are:
1) He's an established NFL QB that although not top 5, has the potential to be top 10.
2) In Pete's conservative system, and positive reinforcement, he could thrive
3) He's not Gruden's QB - he inherited him
4) Gruden loves Wilson
5) The Raiders have a lot of high draft picks this year
6) It gives us room to re-sign Clark, Reed, Wagner, and others over the coming years
I'm not saying we do it, but if we are to trade Wilson, it would seem to be a good fit for both teams.
NorthHawk wrote:If Ciara is the deciding factor, then Wilson will go the FT route for Free Agency in a couple of years
and we will only get a 3rd round comp pick and have to develop a QB from scratch. It's doubtful
we will get anyone as developed as Carr currently is for a number of years if at all. But with
a fistful of high draft picks...
On another note, I read a comment that they had already agreed on the money for Wilson, but the
sticking point was the number of guaranteed years. I hope it's true and a deal can be quickly made.

Mark Rodgers & John Schneider have been meeting for several hours the past couple days. Hopefully there’ll be great news for all Seahawks fans if they can lock up the winningest QB in NFL and Franchise history in first 7 seasons @DangeRussWilson
48 hours left. Time will tell.

What makes you think that would be Ciara's preference? As long as we're assuming don't you think she'd just as soon the Giant's just trade for him this year?
