I just hope Obama was watching Sportscenter this morning so he knows he's supposed to meet my team today.

I'm a little surprised that Golden showed up. And while I like Marshawn's desire to stay out of the limelight, I still think it woulda been cool for him to go. He coulda just stood way in the back. Beast is consistent is his stance, though, so I guess it comes as no surprised that he skipped.

I didn't watch it live, but just got through watching the replay. Lots of funny one-liners and very well done by the President, especially the stuff about Sherman, and yea, I agree, Lynch should have been there, but I do understand his personality. So long as he's not skipping it as some sort of protest, I'm OK with his not being there. I didn't like Russell's haircut, but it was nice seeing all the guys dressed up for the occasion. Pete's comment about calling on the Hawks during a crisis was funny, but as much as I like the Hawks, I'll stick with Seal Team Six if I'm being held hostage somewhere.

It's a minor point, but one thing I wish the Prez wouldn't have done was his reference to the Seahawks belonging to the city of Seattle. The name may say Seattle, but it's more than Seattle's team. I wish he would have framed his remarks to include the entire region. After all, the stadium referendum was a state wide measure that I voted for, so I feel as if they belong to me as much as it does to anyone that lives in Seattle, perhaps more. It probably would have been better for the governor to be there along with the mayor to reinforce that perception. There also might have been a tad too much emphasis on acknowledging the D to the exclusion of the rest of the team. And he's gravely mistaken if he's attributing the crowd noise exclusively to stadium design. But bringing out the 12th man flag made up for those very minor slights.

Overall it was a pretty cool ceremony, very appropriate and well done by the President.

According to Clayton, Lynch was attending to a death of a close family friend ( at least that is what he said on the radio yesterday) I kind of doubt Clayton is going to "cover" for Lynch ( since he railed against him during the SB). I don't know, just relaying what was said.

Why would you be surprised Tate showed up? Going to the White House and meeting the President is pretty close to a once in a lifetime opportunity. Sure he signed with the Lions but this was celebrating the 2013 team. Breno, Thurmond, Bryant, Clemons and Browner were there too.

I'm also going to go against Riv and endorse the RW haircut.

If Lynch was absent due to family matters, you would have thought that some sort of disclaimer would have been mentioned so as not to lead people to false assumptions. If the Prez knew Lynch wasn't going to be there and that he was going to make some sort of comment about him that he would have noted his reason for being absent. That's usually what occurs when someone as noteworthy as Beast misses something like this.

IMO people tend to lose part of their identity when they shave their heads. That was part of the rationale for the military requiring shaved heads, to discourage individuality and to make everyone look the same. That and my old man would have given part of his manhood to have had hair, so it's almost a sacrilege to my family values to have the ability to grow hair yet so casually part with it.

and it grows back. lots of athletes go with a buzz cut before a season starts. ( and in Wilsons case it was for a charity, which shouldn't surprise anyone).

Must be a slow news day in the NFL for us to be talking hair cuts - but I'll add my 2 cents worth.

Maybe Wilson's thought is it can be pretty warm and this will mean he won't have to get it cut again until TC so he can concentrate on film and practice.
There have been a lot of things going on in his life and this could signal the end of the Off season and back to work.
Then again maybe he just likes it better.

At my age now, I just wish I had some of the hair I cut off when I was young.

Ah, charity. It all makes sense now.

Pffft! I've been shaving my head for 35 years, my identity is fine. In fact my shaved head is part of my identity!

As far as the military, I was actually written up by a gung ho new Annapolis grad Division Officer for shaving my head! Military regs actually requite at least 1/4" of hair. But I've got a scar on the back of my head that serves as a natural (and grotesquely wide) part that with short hair makes me look (or served to get me teased that it looked) like I've got ... certain lady parts on the back of my head. The Captain wavered my shaved head and reprimanded the Butter Bars for being a dork at sea ...

Yea, that makes a difference. It really must be a slow news day if the best thing we can argue about is RW's haircut.

Apparently that's not true. According to this article, Beast simply didn't want to go.

Marshawn Lynch's mom says he didn't give her a specific reason for not joining the Seahawks on their trip to the White House to meet the president.
"He just said he didn't want to go," his mother, Delisa Lynch, tells The Seattle Times.

She did mention they were mourning the recent death of a family member, but she originally thought he'd be going on the White House visit anyway.

http://mynorthwest.com/275/2527476/Wheres-Marshawn

Like I said earlier, I think he should have been there with his teammates and to show respect for the President who took time out of his busy day to honor them. But I do understand that he's a very private person, and so long as he's not doing it as some sort of protest, I'm OK with it.

"She did mention they were mourning the recent death of a family member, but she originally thought he'd be going on the White House visit anyway."

it's the third paragraph in the article RD.

That's not to say he couldn't go, but Bob and my posts were indeed accurate. It IS what was reported by Clayton, it IS mentioned in the article, so I'm not sure how you got "it's not true" from there. Just because his Mom thought he was going, or because he told her "he didn't want to go" doesn't mean that there wasn't a valid reason not to go. ( hell Baldwin was on the radio this morning talking about how he had spoken to Marshawn, and he definitely had a valid reason not to attend, as well as Avril who was on honeymoon, and a couple other players that didn't attend).

making a big deal about not attending a ceremony to celebrate how great you are, doesn't come across to me as some sort of mistake without a valid reason, which to me it seems he did.

Some people just have trouble being in the public eye outside of their job.
It's not the end of the world or team that he didn't go. It was his choice and he felt more comfortable not going.
When it comes to practice and playing, he's there putting out the effort and leading by example.
That's ultimately all that matters.

I seriously doubt ML has any issue whatsoever with the Pres, but if he did, why would you have a problem with him or anyone foregoing glad-handing with him for a (kinda ridiculous) photo-op?

I think you and I feel the same way about showing respect for the office (and about the once-in-a-lifetime nature of the opportunity, etc), but I don't think it's unreasonable for someone to feel differently about how they'd spend a couple days of their offseason if they didn't like the guy as a politician.

If I was staying home to be with my mom who lost a close friend I wouldn't tell my mom I wasn't going because of her. I would tell her I don't feel like going.

I read the whole article, HC, and the way I interpreted her comments was that Beast's mom was not claiming Marshawn wasn't going because of the death of a family friend but simply because he didn't want to go. She didn't come out and say it, but if he was staying home because he was still mourning the loss of a friend, it certainly wasn't given as the reason.

I'm not making a big deal of it, and it certainly isn't big enough for either of us to get our briefs in a wad. It's his decision, and I don't think anything less of him because of it.
