Good for both sides. He's a valuable go to dependable receiver who's underrated.
I hope he doesn't lose his "angry Doug" persona which got him to this point.

For a team that's not making a lot of splashy headlines we're really having one hell of an offseason!

Agreed! This is great news. Now we have Thomas, Sherman and Baldwin extended. Any chance they are trying to extend Avril's contract as well?

Was just thinking the same thing.

Going to miss some of our subtractions, but boy, we've nailed down some key pieces. Would have liked to see Tate stay, and maybe we'll end up missing some of our defensive guys more than we think, but it sure feels like we're going into next season largely intact (knock on wood for injuries).

I'm wondering if Avril has his sights set on Free Agency and what he can ultimately get.
He would be a welcome addition if they can work out a longer term deal.

Good news, indeed! Baldwin has been a solid contributor, very seldom drops passes, not as acrobatic as Tate but close.

As long as there is guys like Chris Carter, or fans like Future walking around calling him pedestrian I don't think that will be an issue....

Yep- don't think DB doesn't have Carter's Sportscenter rant after the Superbowl saved on his phone.

Psses *me* off- can't imagine Doug's taking it in stride.

This was not a good deal by the hawks.

If baldwin wanted to play in the nfl in 2014 the Hawks were only obligated to pay him the $2m tender.

This means essentially Baldwin gets the 2m the hawks were only obligated to pay him + a 2 year extension at $5m+ per year.

I like Baldwin a lot and wanted him to stay, but he is less valuable than Tate and it is a poor decision to give Baldwin the same money they were offering Tate.

To any of you saying this is a good deal, I highly doubt a single one of you would have said he deserves a $5m/yr extension a week ago.

That only makes any sense if we only wanted him for 2014. Obviously we had other, more important deals to negotiate and not knowing how long they'd take we tendered him at the level we did to protect our interest in him until we were able to turn our attention to working out an extension with Doug.

Tate had other, non-football related reasons for his exit ...

The FO isn't known for throwing money away when re-signing players so I doubt it doesn't fit within their plans.
And if it fits within their plans, then it's no big deal what they paid him.

Baldwin was clutch and probably the hardest worker of the receiving squad. Doug will probably get better, too. He is elusive and has amazing hands. Tate, while I wanted him to succeed, always left me wanting more. And I'm still bitter about buying my son his jersey for Christmas!
I'm really surprised no one has brought up what Bob referred to regarding Tate's departure. I think it's a pretty interesting story/rumor that could explain a lot of their play last year. Tate did seem to become less of a target during the postseason.

Baldwins contract is 3/13 million. Period. Why certain people continue to moan about salary, "after" this or that is beyond me. Baldwin didn't sign a contract for "5 million" a year, he averages 4.3 Million a year, the end. People did the same with Thomas, and then Shermann, now Baldwin. I wonder at what point people will stop disregarding the team getting BARGAINS for the first year ( you know those players didn't HAVE to accept those cut rate years, Baldwin did NOT have to agree to the 2.5, Sherman DIDN'T have to agree to play at his rookie contract number for this season, Thomas didn't HAVE to agree to play for his last season under those terms). Seems to me, that people don't grasp that even IF they hadn't demanded a raise for this coming season, that the LENGTH and MONEY isn't changing. Baldwin 3 for 13. Whether people "like" the player or the contract, that IS what it is.

Last year Baldwin made two of the greatest sidelines catches that I have ever seen in the NFL.

Great to have him on board for the upcoming seasons.

A Doug Baldwin highlight reel as a Seahawk would be a lot like a Bobby Engram highlight reel. I'm no GM, but I think we got ourselves a football player here...one who plays w/ an Alaskan sized chip on his shoulder, has great hands, great rapport w/ RW, and got us some game winning 3rd downs. I LOVE this move and I think it'll motivate UDFAs and other "fringe" players (right effin now) to play like ADB to create a future for themselves. Great sign on so many levels; I wish it were longer - before you throw tomatoes at me... Remember I'm an admitted gut reaction/decide w/ my heart kinda chick and not good GM material.

I agree with you Sis.
From what I see of him, how he carries himself, and in his interviews, I think Baldwin is the type of player every team needs.
He is grounded and focused not to mention determined to get better every day, so others will naturally work harder around him just because of the competition.
They know they're going to get 100% from him in every practice and every game and that rubs off on the others.
I've said this before, but the ability to work hard is an unappreciated talent.

I've mentioned them before, but "glue" players often times are the difference between great success or huge failure. Baldwin is a key player on this team in multiple different ways. People that don't grasp the concept of glue guys, can examine what happened to Atlanta last year ( a team full of "stars" but very few "solid" contributors and depth).

Tate got 6 million a year. Baldwin is getting 4.3. There is no point in acting like they could have signed Tate instead. He was more expensive than the team was willing to pay.

Hell they offered Tate MORE than Baldwin signed for ( 4.5 A year) and Tate called the offer "laughable". Baldwin earned every cent in that contract, through clutch play, hard work and leadership. If people want to discount his importance that's fine I suppose, but I honestly see Baldwin as this teams Ward ( without the cheap shots), Ward was seldom the "most talented" receiver on those teams, but without him, Pittsburgh does not win the SB's they did. Baldwin IMHO is indeed what Carroll and Schneider called him " A CORE player".
