Rams at 49ers

Postby 4XPIPS » Thu Dec 12, 2024 4:32 pm

This game has "must win" written all over it from both sides. I am actually rooting for the 49ers in this one as a win will set the Rams further back, but either way it will be a fun watch. I want to see how for real this Rams offense is going forward. Sean and Kyle know each other quite well. Who else is watching this one?

Two seperate 3 legs
1)
Over 48.5
C Kupp + 60 Rec Yds
Purdy Over +18.5 RushYds

2)
C Kupp + 60 Rec Yds
Purdy + 225 Pass Yds
Stafford + 225 Pass Yds

Let's make some loot, I hoping for a high passing affair!

I’m hoping for the 49ers too.
I feel so dirty I need a shower though.

Strange game last night. Obviously, the weather played a role in the first half, but it looked to me like the rain let up in the 2nd yet the offenses still struggled. Both quarterbacks were off more than they were on, Purdy more so than Stafford, which was the difference in the game. Purdy threw one huge costly pick in the 4th quarter. Up until then, it looked like the game might be heading into OT.

Deebo Samuel doesn't look like himself, was a complete non-factor. Lots of players missing for the Niners, including CMC, Brandon Ayiuk, Trent Williams. Greenlaw was limited, played very little in the 2nd half. This isn't the same Niners team.

It's been quite a while since I've watched a game where there wasn't a TD scored. There were 13 punts between the two teams.

I'm convinced that the 9ers need to extend Purdy to a big money contract.

As a Hawks fan, of course ;-)

Of course! He would be a big help if he keeps playing like he did last night.

In defense of Purdy, he was without a lot of his weapons. They're down to their third string running btack, without a future HOF left tackle, an all-pro wide receiver, and as I said earlier, something is different about Deebo Samuel. He's not the same player. here's no doubt that Purdy played poorly, but he's not the root cause of the Niners problems.

Clearly that's some of the problem but he was missing wide open receivers. Deebo didn't do Purdy any favors dropping that pass in the Red Zone and it could have changed the entire outcome of the game.
But he was throwing into triple coverage along with missing receivers.

Agreed on Deebo. I've been surprised at how he's fallen off a cliff, even considering injury.

That's what I was seeing. I remember at least twice in the second half his receivers had a step on deep routes and Purdy put the ball in bad spots. The rain shouldn't have been as much of an issue by then, but even if it was Purdy should have known the ball was slipping and not even tried the deep ball.

Neither team's receivers were getting much separation, which leads me to believe that the weather/field conditions had more of an effect than what we were able to see via TV.

The Rams have put themselves in a good position. They have games against the Jets and Cards before ending the regular season with us in their house, which could end up being for the division championship. At 6-8, the Niners season is virtually over. It's looking like we're going to see a playoff season without the Niners or the Cowboys qualifying.

BTW, did you guys hear about this? It sounds like the Niners have a Percy Harvin situation on their hands:

With injuries to their linebackers accumulating in the middle of the third quarter Thursday night against the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers turned to veteran De'Vondre Campbell to enter the game.

Campbell declined the invitation.

Then, in the fourth quarter, Campbell walked to the locker room with a towel over his head without playing a snap. After the Niners' 12-6 defeat at Levi's Stadium, head coach Kyle Shanahan explained that Campbell elected not to enter the game even though linebackers Dre Greenlaw (knee) and Dee Winters (neck) were dealing with injuries.

"He said he didn't want to play today," Shanahan said.

I did see that. Kyle may be losing the locker room. That's a shame ;) While the game didn't break the way we wanted, it did make SNF even bigger. A win and we could knock the Niners out, possibly ending their no-ring dynasty.

No worse than what the Jets and Bears locker rooms must be like.

But since the Niners were in the Super Bowl last year and the NFCCG the two years prior to that, their fall from grace is quite a bit harder than teams where losing is part of their accepted culture.

Frisco has always been driven by their stars. Without McCaffrey, they have lost a major weapon. I was never a huge believer in Brock Purdy either. Frisco always seemed to be so stacked with talent they could make their offense perform at a high level with almost any healthy, competent QB. But they had to have their stars working, especially the run game.

Frisco is finished this year most likely.

Now the Rams and Seahawks are head to head. Rams have the Jets, Cards, and us, so a much easier path to take the division. We may know by the time we play them who will take the division depending on the next two games against quality opponents.

Ugh. Rams are red hot. Damn shame we couldn't have gotten Cupp. The last game with them may have so much on the line. I now hate them.

The reigning NFC champion 49ers would've had a 11% chance to make the playoffs if they pulled out a prime-time win Thursday night, but after dropping to 6–8, NFL.com gives them less than a 1% chance to play postseason football.

I think you can safely eliminate the "most likely" from your 2nd paragraph. Stick a fork in them.

Not only will they miss the playoffs, they miss their entire window to win a SB on a cheap QB contract. Next year they will have to pay Brock, and there will be some significant cuts. I predict CMC gets' waived. I can see Ward or Greenlaw gone. Deebo is sending cryptic messages, so maybe they let him go and keep Jennings and Aiyuk.
