You all know I was NOT an Irvin supporter, but you can't blame him for the hip. It was still a great draft the way it turned out. Would it have really mattered if we had drafted Wilson in the 1st and Irvin in the 3rd. If Pete had he would have been a Genius. The only Genius draft guru was Bill Walsh. My only problem was and still is, that Irvin was not a bona fide first rounder. The disturbing part is how Pete gets locked on to someone in the draft that is average and acts like its his new toy. I guess they all do it. Its like someone posted however, no swim move, no bull rush, no slap, no spin move, come on, this should have been discovered before drafting him as a #1 pick. Donte Hightower was taken later out of Alabama, a much better calculated risk.
At this point even If he is cut this year its too late to say I told you so, especially after being a 2 year starter.

I believe he was drafted for his body type and speed. Pete seems to think he can teach the rest and maybe he can in most cases at this level, so I doubt they cared about swim or spin moves as that wasn't their focus.
As well, the psychological makeup was a big factor. Maybe others like Hightower didn't pass the test from a team fit point of view.
His length and speed was that special quality they desired.
Now let's see if they can really make something out of him.
