Official Seahawks Post Game Thread

Postby savvyman » Sun Nov 09, 2014 5:23 pm

Even though the game is not officially over - - it is over.

Highlights of today victory? The return of several Seahawks including Byron Maxwell to the line-up.

Other highlights are the excellent rushing game and our excellent Run Defense.

Concerns?

1. Seahawks Passing game - we do not have one - all success through the air have been on broken plays and Russell WIlson's creativity. We are getting nothing out of our set passing offense.

2. Brandon Mebane - We need him back soon.

3. Pass Defense - though the pass defense improved in the second half.

Next up? Kansas City - who have won 6 of their last 7 games. Seahawks will need their A Game next week for 4 quarters if they expect to win.

All in all today's game is exactly what this team needed to restore their confidence and team unity.

Our running game should be setting up our passing game. I am thinking it has to be the schemes that Bevel have thought up that are not working. Come on, almost no passes to Kearse or Lockette? It is though Bevell doesn't have any faith in RW throwing the ball over the middle to our WR's. We also need Zack Miller back in the worst way.

Playing down in Arrowhead Stadium is going to be tough but I know our team can beat those guys.

Next week won't be easy to say the least. Hawks need to pull up their socks and play hard to win on the road this week.

I really am surprised that Wilson's accuracy still hasn't come around. It's unusual to see him have this kind of slump.

Kevin Pierre-Lewis had a terrific game. Nearly every time he's on the field, he seems to be flying around making plays.
IMO he's already a MUCH, MUCH better LB than Malcolm Smith, and will easily replace him, and in fact upgrade the spot when he leaves next year.

We need a TE who can catch, and receivers who can get open (other than Baldwin), badly. Hopefully eventually between Richardson and Norwood, one or both of them will become that, but as yet, we're completely reliant on running the ball and the occasional pass to an occasionally open target, usually Baldwin.
For all the talk about Andrew Luck and who would trade Wilson for him, I'd sure love to see what Wilson could do with even a tiny fraction of the talent Indianapolis has at the TE and WR positions or a remotely good pass blocking line.

If Mebane is forced to miss significant time, we'll quickly discover just how important a big run stuffing DT who can force double teams truly is. I hate to find out that answer!

I'm glad Kansas City won, because even closer to full strength (which we should be) I really don't like the idea of traveling to
that nasty place while the passing game is in this much of a mess, especially after a loss. This game is going to be tough enough, even if we get close to full strength health wise. I knew the Giants were no match for us, but Kansas City....that team in their noisy stadium worries me.

There's simply no way the team will keep Lynch past this season, it's not going to happen, he'll be payed too much for a RB his age. Still, the drop off to whoever ends up replacing him, will be felt! What Lynch brings to this offense, I'm not sure any other RB I have seen play, EVER, can bring. Lynch truly is amazing, a one of a kind unique talent, the likes of which we may never see again ever.
I suspect it will be Christine Michael who will carry the torch next year, and he's shown enough flashes of a brilliance of his own, that I suspect he will do a fine job, but...he's no Marshawn Lynch. No one is. Or likely ever will be again.

While I think I understand the shot you are taking a shot at Alexander*, I don't get that in relation to that moment.
Alexander didn't whiff on tackles, he was a running back....

*I'll never, ever understand the fan hatred for Alexander, who was a true great Seahawks running back. Not ever! Alexander deserves better than our petty derision!

We're gonna need another Huge rushing day to win in KC next week.

Today was a record setting occasion, with a Monster game by Beast along with RW. Even Michael had some big runs.

Wilson's off passing wise, yes, with those 2 INT's being awful, especially for a quarterback who's among the best decision makers in the NFL. He also was indecisive a couple of times on whether to pass or run, including one play that saw him get an intentional grounding penalty in the redzone.

IMO, though, he'll snap out of it. Playing the Chiefs at Arrowhead is hardly an ideal place to solve problems, but Wilson's more than capable of righting his own struggles, even on the road.

Grind it out, move the chains.

KC is playing well - 4 wins in a row now - and have only dropped one home game so far...a week 1 loss to the Titans.

It won't be easy, but it can be done.

BTW Anyon notice that the pre snap penalties by the offensive line was WAY down? I may be wrong, but I can't remember a single penalty on the line. Anyone think it was a coincidence that the line played SO MUCH better with Unger back?

Me either.
That was no coincidence that the line was MUCH better, especially in terms of penalties, with Unger at center.

We were a bad team in the first half, at least by our standards at home ... but we held the game close while we worked out some kinks and after the half we were a badass team! Our run blocking, particularly with Unger back in there, was phenomenal!, some of those holes I could have limped through for a score. We still need to dial in our passing game a bit, but if this is what we're going to look like with our guys coming back I like our chances.

I don't think there is a hatred for Shaun Alexander, it is just that the decision to resign him at the age of 30 instead of locking down Steve Hutchison sticks in a lot of craws. That and the fact that he went from league MVP to nothing in such a short time after he had done so much to protect himself for most of his career was so shocking. I mean, the ONLY time he fought for yards was his MVP/SB year and then he hurts his foot and he never is the same. That loss to the Bears in the play offs still sucks.

I do have to wonder though if Hutch was EVER going to resign with the Seahawks since he seemed to really want to play closer to where he grew up rather than way out on the west coast. We might have been able to keep him a few extra season's with the FT but something tells me he wanted to leave all along, sort of like how Randy Johnson really wanted to play in Arizona after buying a house down there after falling in love with the area after all of those spring trainings.

Anyway, Shaun Alexander raised the 12th. man flag last year and got a standing ovation from the crowd so I believe all is forgiven with most Seahawk fans. We just wish he had had a bit more in the tank.

Thanx SA

Go Seahawks!!!

He would have stayed with us if we had blown up the guard scale for him in 2004 or so (whenever those early negotiations were going on).

In hindsight, probably should have bit the bullet and done it, but the decision not to do so wasn't all that unreasonable with what was known at the time (or more importantly, what *wasn't* known- that the Vikings were willing to dynamite the guard scale for him).

Maybe this is the homer in me talking, but I can't help but wonder how much the wet conditions are affecting RW. Watching the ball just slide out of Eli's hands yesterday, as well as the dramatic drop in RW's accuracy, makes me think the conditions have been a little rougher on a QB than it might appear.

Maybe I'm just making excuses, though, and this is simply a good old fashioned garden variety slump.

Admittedly, RW is not playing the way we'd like to (him either, BTW) in the passing game. There are so many factors that play into it all, a wet ball does not help, but it was wet for everyone. We are 8th defensively against the pass, yet Eli managed 283 and a TD against us while RW throws for south of 200 with 2 (almost 3) turnovers.

I think he is in a slump and I think good QBs have em. Hell, Big Ben threw 12 TDs in TWO games and chokes against the Jets. If we are dissecting the issue, outside of the natural ebb and flow of a season - I would list the issues in any order:

1. The o-line
2. The absence of Zach, specifically in pass protection
3. A pedestrian WR corps (sorry Doug and Co. - love you all, but it is true right now.) Doug is a great slot receiver. The Bobby Engram of today. But he is not a down the field threat. We don't have Joe J., and D-Jax type consistency out of our youngins (YET) and RW does not trust that they will be where they are supposed to be (not that he has bee all that accurate the last few weeks). Our WRs are each good players capable of making great plays, but we lack someone who would draw a double team, a consistent threat, the ability to get separation on a regular basis etc....... I feel bad even saying it because I know Kearse and Baldwin HATE hearing it, but tell me that they would not be better if we had Odell Beckem (sp?) on our team.
4. Trouble at TE. Willson (of the TE variety) and his inconsistency (& now his injury) has NOT helped and we are down to our 4th string TE in Cooper Helfet (Zach Miller 1, McCoy 2, Willson 3, Cooper 4).

I really think it'll work itself out unless we continue to get clobbered by the injury bug - if we do, all bets are off.
