The players were mainly responsible for those losses. This was different. 2nd and goal from the 1 with 30 seconds and one timeout left and we call a pass play into heavy traffic at the goal line? I would have had a problem with that call on 3rd down, let alone 2nd down. This one the majority of the blame has to be hung on the coaching staff, which doesn't absolve Russell of his role. We f#ucked up, plain and simple.
I have racked my brain to think of a worse play call. The only one I can think of was in a regular season game between the Giants and Eagles back in the mid 70's. The older guys will know the game I am talking about, so I won't go into detail.

You lost because your D let you down. Same reason we lost.
It sucks.

Our coaches were lambasted by fans and the media for the exact same thing - calling 3 straight passes from the 3 and not allowing Gore to touch the ball. I don't see how it is different, at all.
The other part is, Carroll put the ball in the hands of his QB. It was RW's decision to make that throw, his ball placement, his play. You could lay blame any which way you want, but I would not blame a coach for putting the ball in the hands of one of his best players in crunch time.
