If you want to get your country right, then stop idolizing presidents at all. We as a people need to stop watching videos on the Internet, the boobtube, or news bytes and get control of our nation. That means holding politicians accountable regardless of your political party and stance. This politicians promising crap is taking us down the tubes when voters are voting on single issues rather than understanding the values of their nation. It doesn't help when someone like yourself is so blinded by hate you can't see all thew wrong done by president after president after president and Congress after Congress after Congress.

I know it will likely never happen, but at some point this nation is doomed until we move from this soundbyte, single issue voting to actually teaching our values and upholding them. The passage of time and events since then has caused me to rethink the 2nd question and in retrospect, perjury in a civil trial is not an impeachable offense.

IMO Trump has not committed an impeachable offense, either. I have not seen anything coming out of the Mueller investigation that would cause me to think that he conspired with the Russians to rig the election, to the contrary, I have not seen any successful attempt to erase votes, change votes, or otherwise affect the tabulation of votes in the 2016 general election. Only if it were shown that the Russians actually changed tabulated results and if Trump is proven without a doubt to have conspired with them to do so is there an impeachable offense lurking somewhere in the Mueller investigation. However, I do see value in continuing the investigation in that it keeps the election fraud issue in the forefront and motivates us to take actions to prevent such tampering in the future.

I am very uncomfortable with Trump's cozy relationship with Putin and another bizarre claim of his that the European Union is more of an enemy of ours than is Russia or China. Eee gads!

Impeachment is still out of the question IMO. I have seen nothing even remotely suggested that rises to that level. As we discussed before, the only way you can have a treason charge is if we are at war, so that's off the table, and if Slick Willy's perjury isn't a high enough crime to qualify, then an election violation certainly doesn't reach that standard. Unless they can show that Trump conspired with the Russians, that they changed Hillary votes to Trump votes, and that it affected the outcome if the election, then I will not support impeachment.

One of the reasons why there's not more outrage from conservative voters (there's plenty of outrage amongst R pols) is that the conservative news that they all dutifully listen to and watch won't cover a story or won't cover it in its entirety that reflects badly on Trump, and most dedicated Trump followers will refuse to even consider listening to a different take. It's no different for the left. I often times will watch the same story on FoxNews and MSNBC and get two entirely different takes. That's one of the reasons why it's going to take a huge bombshell to dislodge Trump, one big enough that the conservative news has no choice but to follow and limited options to spin.

Since soviet tool Tass was the only media outlet present for that meeting it was a Trump aide who leaked the story. Thats the classic definition of obsdtructing justice as is his witness tampering continually thorugh tweets etc.

The incredible detail in the Mueller indictment of the 12 russians shows me and should show everyone that Mueller really knows everything, has likely had people wearing wires as this idiot blurted out stuff, has the tax returns, has it all. The revelation that Micheal Cohen was taping Trump during meetings is another nail in the coffin, revealing personal knowledge of campaign finance violations by using hush money to silence a mistress on the eve of an election without reporting it as an in kind contribution.

I'm going to tune out for about 2.5 years barring something really important, maybe 6.5 years if he is re-elected. Between Trump himself twittering and mouthing off and the anti-Trump folks acting like deranged idiots that have forgotten all their history and to educate themselves on politics constantly making Trump seem like the worst, most evil president in history, I can't watch America act like such a group of idiots from the top down. Trump isn't even in the Top 10 of most evil presidents, not even close at the moment. He's merely the most narcissistic, rude, combative president we've had. People should ignore him. I wish someone would start a movement where his Twitter gets flooded with "Do your job and STFU" comments by the millions and signs with the same on it at protests. If he would learn to speak in a less combative manner, I wouldn't mind him near as much. He hasn't learned the art of couching hard words in candy that makes it easy for the public to consume. Past presidents were much better at this which calms the public a lot of the time because the majority of them don't know or don't care what's really going on in the Oval Office, which is why so many people like Obama, Clinton, G.W. Bush Jr. and Sr., and Reagan. Very few follow actual policy and the media supports whichever party and power people they are aligned with rather than engaging in education and reporting for the benefit of the American people.

The economy is doing fine. So far world affairs seem to be pushing in our favor. Life is quiet and improving but for the president and his Twittering and public comments and the insane anti-Trumper's responses. If we negotiate some good trade deals, we may be rolling for some time to come. I can hopefully relax and ignore the noise for a few more years. I guess I'll wake up again if he gets impeached, check the markets for bargains, and see how it rolls. Definitely a good time to make sure you have a good amount of money invested to benefit from growth and a good amount of cash stashed aside to ensure you're ready for surprises to take advantage of any bargains that show up in stocks if we get impeachment or something similar.

Agreed. Since Trump started this birther movement about Obama, he's made plenty of enemies in the federal government, including the IRS. That probably speaks well of having a billionaire as a candidate as they've all been pretty well vetted by the IRS.

I'm going to tune out for about 2.5 years barring something really important, maybe 6.5 years if he is re-elected. Between Trump himself twittering and mouthing off and the anti-Trump folks acting like deranged idiots that have forgotten all their history and to educate themselves on politics constantly making Trump seem like the worst, most evil president in history, I can't watch America act like such a group of idiots from the top down. Trump isn't even in the Top 10 of most evil presidents, not even close at the moment. He's merely the most narcissistic, rude, combative president we've had. People should ignore him. I wish someone would start a movement where his Twitter gets flooded with "Do your job and STFU" comments by the millions and signs with the same on it at protests. If he would learn to speak in a less combative manner, I wouldn't mind him near as much. He hasn't learned the art of couching hard words in candy that makes it easy for the public to consume. Past presidents were much better at this which calms the public a lot of the time because the majority of them don't know or don't care what's really going on in the Oval Office, which is why so many people like Obama, Clinton, G.W. Bush Jr. and Sr., and Reagan. Very few follow actual policy and the media.

The economy is doing fine. So far world affairs seem to be pushing in our favor. Life is quiet and improving but for the president and his Twittering and public comments and the insane anti-Trumper's responses. If we negotiate some good trade deals, we may be rolling for some time to come. I can hopefully relax and ignore the noise for a few more years. I guess I'll wake up again if he gets impeached, check the markets for bargains, and see how it rolls. Definitely a good time to make sure you have a good amount of money invested to benefit from growth and a good amount of cash stashed aside to ensure you're ready for surprises to take advantage of any bargains that show up in stocks if we get impeachment or something similar.

Trump's not going to be removed from office against his will, ie via impeachment proceedings. Even if they were to impeach him and bring him to trial, 2/3's majority is just too high of a bar to meet, especially given the Senatorial math in the midterms.

Our POTUS's made a lot of evil decisions. People don't like to call them evil because they don't like to think of their nation doing evil things. Drone assassinations are evil.It's signing an execution warrant without trial by peer to murder someone using a robotic unit armed with weapons. So is dropping bombs that kill people completely uninvolved with any attack upon us. We do it a lot. Just like our POTUSs make good decisions to help people like sending aid to earthquake devastated Pakistan or food aid and school building to Africa. You want to govern nations, you better be able to walk on both sides of the line or you won't be able to handle the job. As POTUS you sign off on government-sanctioned murder and government-sanctioned aid and everything in-between often enough that your conscience will be tested. One of the reasons why I as an American want us to reign in the push for world control from afar. It gets us involved in far too much underhanded garbage and has been for years that puts us as a nation and a people in a position to do evil too often.

Not going to re-hash this discussion other than to say as I told you and burrton: We've been in a trade war for years. The world has had tariffs and limitations against American companies for a long time now, especially China. If these trade wars don't work, then you and burrton need to explain why they work for China and Europe, but not us. That means why can China, Europe, and Japan put high tariffs on our products and do fine, but we put them on their products we're in a trade war and something is wrong. It doesn't make any sense for you to make these claims unless you have both been oblivious to the limitations placed on American companies. It seems to me that you and burrton haven't been paying attention to all the ways China, Europe, and other nations limit our businesses.

I understand why these foreign nations do it. It makes sense not to allow multi-billion dollar international companies from an aggressive system like America to move into your domestic market establishing themselves before you can build domestic industries that ensure local jobs and business power remain within the nation. At the same time America doesn't have to take that garbage. It's time to compete. China and Europe need to lower some of their trade barriers and let us get to business.

The tax reduction has had a huge effect on the economy. Earnings are on pace for all time highs. We'll see what happens when the easy money Fed policy stops and what inflation does as that can be a factor. We'll see what kind of final trade deals get worked out, hopefully soon. Those trade deals are huge as far as Trump's legacy. If Trump improves our trade deals, the economy should be in the best position in years. Now if he could just STFU, we could have some good times because I don't care if he bangs playboy models and pornstars.

If you use that as the definition of "evil", then nearly every POTUS in the 20th century was evil. Was Truman an evil man because he dropped the A-bomb on Japan? If you agree, then you're in a very small minority.

The environment you grew up in isn't an excuse. Your reasoning reminds me of an incident that happened back in the late 70's. My employer refused to fire an employee that called a black supervisor of ours a n*****, and one of the reasons they didn't was because the offender, a female born in the 60's, was born and raised in the deep south. We all thought it was outrageous that our employer would use place of birth as an excuse for the use of a totally unacceptable ethnic slur, especially one directed at a superior. I did not find that excuse acceptable then and I don't feel it is acceptable now.

Reagan wasn't "for" apartheid. He was reluctant to react to it because he felt that the government of South Africa was a friend to the US and didn't want to intervene in another country's business, and he deserves condemnation for that hesitation, but I wouldn't call it racist. Reagan eventually did the right thing and approved sanctions, which was the driving force that caused a change in SA policy. It's not too different to Eisenhower's reaction to Little Rock. Hesitation followed by eventually doing the right thing. Also, keep in mind that Reagan's most trusted foreign policy advisor (Colin Powell) was an African American. Not sure how that occurs if a person harbors racist sentiments.

The liklihood of a less than 50% of the vote wouldn't be the only change. Having 3 viable options increases the chance of being given an acceptable candidate.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the prospect of getting less than 50% of the popular vote is. 8 of the past 17 elections resulted in a less than 50% successful candidate, and some (Nixon in '68, Clinton in '92) were significantly less, in the low 40's. We've had two POTUS's in the past 16 years that lost the popular vote. Heck, even Reagan's electoral landslide in '80 netted him just 50.7% of the popular vote. Besides, when less than 60% of eligible voters don't bother to cast a vote, I don't see what the difference is if we elect a POTUS with 35% of the popular vote vs. 42 or 43%.

I think it is sad to say that the economy was good under Obama. Maybe for those who had a full time good paying job it was good but for those 14 million Americans that had to file for food stamps under him and those who lost their job to Mexico or China it was far from good. Under 18 months of Trump, 8 million have left the food stamp rolls and we went from the lowest work force participation rate to the highest. REcord unemployment in black and hispanic groups along with 14 states that have the lowest unemployment rate in their history. People view his immigration stance as racist but actions show a different story.

I do fear we might be headed for another civil war in the US if the two parties can't work out how to return to a civil discord. Antifa and White Supremacists have got to be quelled. They are the far extremes of each party. Also, if we want better leaders, we need to drain the money swamp in DC first and stop the character assassinations of people who run. Why would a highly talented person subject themselves to either of those when they could make so much more money applying their talent to the private sector?

I do think the Hawks on the right and now the Dems want to drag us into a war against Russia which is insane. If I could get the ear of the president for a couple seconds I'd warn him against any phoney stories like the "Gulf of Tonkin" to ignite such a war. There's big money in war for US companies and we really need to be careful that isn't the reason to go to war again.

No one is perfect - we all are human. I think most objective people will acknowledge that this president has had more successes than faults in his 18 months of service. One thing that can't be denied is that he works harder on more issues than any president I can remember and for that I'm grateful. Many of you know my big peave about the Seahawks is playing all 4 quarters and if we look at the president, I think we can all agree, he has been working from the time he hit the field and there's no letup in sight.

Your points are well taken, but can you imagine what the current level of bed-wetting would be increased to if Trump had won with a little more than a third of electors?

I don't think it's the end of the world, but I'm just not sure I agree with your assumption there would be a noticeable increase in 'good candidates'- I think they'd eventually move to bog standard politicians just like the current mainstream parties do.

I also don't see the stable of great potential POTUSes that have been left on the sidelines due to the R and D parties ignoring them.
