BRAVO!!
BRAVO!!
Now we know why all was quiet on the TE front, and why we had heard nothing on Finley after his visit.
Of course, that does NOT mean the Seahawks won't now still sign Finley, they just might, to fill that Joker role.
Still now we know what was holding it all up.
Good to keep such a reliable TE as Miller too!!! I like Miller always have, always thought he was hugely underrated.

Great move.
I like Zach. He can help the substandard OT's block.

Yeah - This one for me means as much as keeping Bennett.

Miller does A LOT for our offense that doesn't make the box score, and chief among those things is his blocking ability to help RW stay healthy.

I'm really happy both sides could come to an agreement, and was hoping that was going to be the case since he hadn't been cut or traded. Good deal for both. It's nice to know that he wants to stay and try for another ring here, and that Seattle can give him that opportunity.

I had just mentioned in another thread that it looked as if we're keeping Miller. Considering the situation our OL is in, we're going to need some good blocking tight ends.

Good job for both Miller and the Hawks.

Out of all the people whose salaries were an issue and needed to be dealt with, Miller is the one that would hurt the most to lose IMO, even with him not being utilized properly here. Not only that, but I felt that he was the least overpaid of the bunch.

His salary wasn't an issue because we acquired better talent that diminishes his role and makes him overpaid (Bryant), nor was it because he is on the wrong side of 30 with a semi-recent serious injury (Clemons), nor is he injury-prone and undependable and overpaid (Rice).

Miller's salary was an issue only because he was being paid as a receiving TE instead of a blocking TE who occasionally catches passes which is how he has been used. He's very good for what he does, it was just that his salary didn't match what he does.

This is going to help out with blocking, but he's been with us for a while and our overall OL has still been mediocre so we still MUST address the OL in a serious way. Getting Miller back doesn't change that one bit.

I honestly had just been hoping for a small pay cut like 2yrs/$10m. I had Miller pegged right around $5m as his value so getting him for $4m makes me happy.

I agree completely. Although I'll never shed a tear for the financial "problems" of a multi million dollar athlete, it sucks for Miller to have done everything this team has asked him to do yet he's being forced to take a big pay cut because he hasn't been the receiving tight end he was brought in here to be. The ignorance of our problems on the offensive line is being paid for by Miller's reduction in his marketability.

But I do like the deal. Anything that enhances the ability for us to resign our core players without giving up our current starters is a good thing.

Great post. Pretty much sums up how I feel.

You nailed it I think in terms of the reasons those other guys were cut, and Miller was not in the same boat.

Good on Miller, and Bennett....great to see guys take a little less to stay, that will go over huge amongst teammates and fans.

Being hungry for anything Seahawks, I read this article and it bothered me to no end:

http://q.usatoday.com/2014/03/18/a-clos ... n-seattle/

It is one thing to say he was being paid too much because he isn't be used as a pass catcher and another entirely to say he isn't living up to his contract and is being given one more chance to prove himself. This guy is a hack, or at least he comes across that way after writing this. Miller knows where he's supposed to be, makes the catches, and blocks well. I suspect he could have made more money elsewhere because he is a proven commodity. Anyway, just wanted to gripe. Glad you are still here Miller!

Ignore the tripe. Miller is valued in Seattle, and though he was being paid like a premier TE and they simply couldn't continue to do so, it IS a product of the system, no matter how many people insist otherwise. There's a reason Seattle receiving options catch so few passes, and it isn't a lack of ability.

Hopefully, they all continue to be pedestrian, and continue to make the catches that COUNT. Let the talking heads and other teams underestimate them, only to be scratching their heads when everything is said and done.

Meh honestly I think he was overpaid period. I understand what he brings to the system but he was being paid the same amount of money as Tony Gonzalez. I don't understand how anyone can look at that figure and not believe he's overpaid regardless of the system he plays in.

I like Zach but that wasn't a good contract.

It wasn't that bad of a contract either; he's not a blocking tight end. He's a very well balanced tight end that was asked to block a lot, and it is not like he came in and was dogging it because he got paid. Was he overpaid, yeah, but not by a big margin, in my opinion. My biggest argument with the article is it acts like Miller hasn't been earning his keep and still has to prove his worth to the Seahawks. No sane person could stand on that claim.

Gotta agree with Kalibane here, it really was a very bad contract.
Not sure why someone would say that he isn't a blocking TE...that's primarily what he is. He is the "Y" TE in our system...nothing wrong with that, it's a HUGELY important role, BUT it is one that primarily utilizes him as a blocker.
He's the TE with his hand in the dirt pre-snap, Willson, on the other hand, is the "Joker" TE, the one who can move around pre-snap and who is more of a receiving TE.
In two TE sets you need both, making them both important to our offense. In single TE sets, however, it's Zack Miller who is usually on the field, making him even more important.
