Out of all the people whose salaries were an issue and needed to be dealt with, Miller is the one that would hurt the most to lose IMO, even with him not being utilized properly here. Not only that, but I felt that he was the least overpaid of the bunch.
His salary wasn't an issue because we acquired better talent that diminishes his role and makes him overpaid (Bryant), nor was it because he is on the wrong side of 30 with a semi-recent serious injury (Clemons), nor is he injury-prone and undependable and overpaid (Rice).
Miller's salary was an issue only because he was being paid as a receiving TE instead of a blocking TE who occasionally catches passes which is how he has been used. He's very good for what he does, it was just that his salary didn't match what he does.
This is going to help out with blocking, but he's been with us for a while and our overall OL has still been mediocre so we still MUST address the OL in a serious way. Getting Miller back doesn't change that one bit.
I honestly had just been hoping for a small pay cut like 2yrs/$10m. I had Miller pegged right around $5m as his value so getting him for $4m makes me happy.
