Anthony wrote:So a person on another board in a thread about Maxwell posted the below, what do you guys think?
"Or they could just let RW walk. After all, it's not like we won the Super Bowl because of gawdy offensive numbers led by the QB or because RW was some pro-bowl, MVP quarterback." and then followed it up with
"Everybody in this city should understand ABOVE ALL after watching how we won this year, that this team is built on a league-best DEFENSE. We didn't win because we had some superman QB leading one of the best offenses in the league. We didn't win the SB game because Wilson put the team on his back. Wilson is what he is, a good-decision maker who makes some clutch plays that allows the offense to hold up to its end of the bargain, so to speak. We need to lock up both Sherman and Thomas before we even consider what to pay Wilson.
Simply, I would just be real careful about how "all-in" we go to re-signing a player that really has only helped this team win by making smart decisions, not turning the ball over and being clutch. That's obviously very valuable, but I don't think it is impossible to replace. I think there are a decent amount of QBs out there that can be procured to fill the same role. Especially when the OL is likely to improve.
If we paint ourselves into a corner thinking "RW is our franchise QB" I just think it's going to get real costly, real fast and I'm not talking about just money. I'm talking about the talent this team will have to sacrifice and thus, the titles this team could sacrifice."
And
"Look, I love Russell Wilson as much as the next guy. His leadership, the way he conducts himself off-the-field in our community et al. all top notch! He's the prototype franchise QB.
BUT, he isn't an MVP caliber QB that leads a top-5 offense. He's not that guy. And our team under Carroll and Schneider will never be reliant upon having that guy. We run the ball and play EXCEPTIONAL defense. That's how we win. All we need is a QB that makes the routine plays as Lloyd McClendon would say. A guy that can run the offense, make smart decisions, execute on third down and in the red zone and one that doesn't turn the ball over.
Am I wrong?
Understanding that, in my opinion it would be absolutely absurd to pay RW $20m a season with a cap under $200m. He's simply not worth sacrificing talent in other key areas of the team for. We plucked RW in the 3rd round of a strong QB draft (Luck, Foles, Tannehill, RG3, Cousins). We can do the same this year or next and groom someone to replace him IF NEED BE. "
As I am sure you can imagine I disagreed as did others, showed reasons logic, and facts. But this person and one other do not get it at all

There's not a snowballs chance in Hell we win the Superbowl without Wilson!!! We don't even win the division without him!
You think we could win it with Tarvaris at QB??? He didn't even TRY to get a starting job, because he KNOWS he stinks!
The Niners are the likely Super Bowl winners if Wilson isn't our QB.
Anthony, why is it that every single time I see you post something it has to do with your extreme love for Wilson and extreme anger for anyone DARING to denigrate him in any way?
It feels like it's become...obsessive...
Literally every thread you contribute to, even when it not directly about Wilson, becomes about Wilson...If people complain about the O-Line, you jump on board because Wilson might get hurt playing behind a bad line.
It's like you have the world's biggest man crush, and you just HAVE to let the world know over and over.
Sorry dude, but that's how you come across...
Look, I've been on board the Wilson train since literally day one, and took a lot of flak for it too, but even I, (he's my favorite player in the entire NFL, HANDS DOWN!) can see that there are reasonable arguments to be made that might suggest he's not actually Superman, or the Messiah.

At NO point was I dissing him, or cutting the man down.

Yup that's were it was.

This is a fact.
I'm glad you said what you did about Wilson being your MVP of the Super Bowl. I don't quite agree because I personally think it should have gone to Kam Chancellor, whose play I would characterize as out-of-his-mind good, except that he ALWAYS seems to play like that! His hits early set the tone for the whole game, and got the Broncos receivers making business decisions and running vertically instead of horizontally after the catch. His pick, his hits on Thomas and Welker were SICK...things of absolute BEAUTY and just took all the fight out of the Broncos.
Still, I don't think Wilson gets NEARLY the credit he deserves for the win. The Broncos game planned well to take away the Seahawks run game, and yet Wilson, without much run support, (except for the threat that Harvin posed) methodically TORE APART the Broncos defense on drive after drive after drive.
Somehow the defense gets all the credit for the win, but years from now, when people re-watch the game, and the idiotic media slant will no longer be so prevalent, people will realize just how much Wilson did to get that win.
No turnovers (for the WHOLE PLAYOFF RUN BTW!!!), a super QB rating, a very high T.O.P. without much of a run game...Wilson did to the Broncos exactly what Manning did to everyone else all year long.
Wilson was terrific. Period.

EDIT: the following two links ought to give anyone all the ammunition they will ever need to permanently shut up any idiot arguing that Wilson isn't that good.

The first link points out that, "A deeper look at the numbers shows that Wilson isn't just underrated (and underpaid), he’s turned in the best two-season start of any quarterback in league history."
The second link may be the best, most balanced article I've ever read on him, it specifically tackles the game manager myth, and completely decimates it.

Each has abilities or qualities the other doesn't and that's why they play so well together.

I hadn't thought of the hot pink in relation to the LOB....you raise a good point there. I'll have to look up demolition, they must have been after I stopped watching I think.

I really didn't want to jump into this but my inner 12 year old just can't be denied. Demolition was a blatant Road Warriors ripoff, so if we have to go with a classic wrestling tag team I say go with them. They were cooler, they were the originals, they are way more celebrated and they also carried Legion of Doom as their nickname..
